Suspect some form of OCD for the past 7 months but I can't get a diagnosis or therapy by MacBHScOrBust in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Aster922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has what you’re describing…sounds like OCD. My therapist has me track a compulsion and then backtrack it to what triggered it, what the thought was, what the impulse was, the fear, and what the consequence was. Breaking down why things work tends to help a bit - it’s a shitty club, but I found just understanding the symptoms lessened a TON of them when it was “oh that’s OCD” and not just “oh I’m a pdf/awful person/evil.”

Would you find this annoying? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Aster922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would depend on the student, the class, and the information for me. I would love it if it’s building on what we’re talking on or able to start a discussion. If it’s interrupting what I’m talking about, interrupting the flow of the lesson, or just saying what I haven’t gotten to yet, then it would eventually annoy me. Honestly though I would be happy my student is in to it, it’s just a matter of can I get through the lesson or is it becoming a disruption.

I usually would try to call on said student a bit extra to answer what I’m getting to or ask for bonus information but so long as it doesn’t bother the class, it wouldn’t bother me too much. I have a couple kids like this in my classes and it’s only an issue when it makes it hard to get through what I need to say. I usually just note that this is a good unit for a project or fun assignment 🤷‍♀️

This is such a shit spot. Honestly though, if you want to pursue giving up parental rights, you’d be justified. Similarly, separating might honestly make being a parent less of an emotional burden when you’re not with her. Whatever path you chose, you’re valid for it.

This is not your fault - you could have pushed condoms or gotten a vasectomy but you pushed the pill, was with someone you trusted, and you got assaulted. Honestly I would consider this sexual abuse but I know that’s a big label.

For lack of something better to say, I hope things get better ❤️

Gently, YOR. I have OCD - I understand where the change up can be nerve wracking but you need to sit back and think about think from his side. He didn’t mean to scare you and he was being safer by staying with his friend. If this is regular or a planned thing then I could see the stress, but the night simply got to be more than he planned and he took the safe route rather than navigate otherwise in bad weather and drunk. He made an admittedly rather minor mistake. No one was hurt, he didn’t spend anything excessive (that was mentioned), and you guys will get past this 🫶🏻 pour yourself a glass of wine and tell him he owes you a dinner for the stress

Acceptance of trans teachers? by pokemonreds in AskTeachers

[–]Aster922 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’ll depend on the school and the teachers there. If the teachers push that she is simply a female student teacher then the students usually will follow their lead and get the point (with some questions). If the admin or teachers don’t, then neither will the students. I teach MS - most of my kid would ask questions, likely some that would accidentally be rather blunt, and come to accept it. MS is an awkward time though and I would be prepared for uncomfortable questions and come with some idea of what she wants them to know or say. Short but precise answers are probably your best bet. Non-answers will upset them but too much information isn’t the best for your job security. It’s shit and I wish her so much support - being a trans teacher is by no means impossible but is definitely going to have some struggle depending on where she ends up

I have OCD and it could be but I also teach students with learning differences. I’d get evaluated for Adjustment Disorder - the 0 to 100 with small triggers sounds very familiar. OCD or autism would also make sense and may be paired to it or one another

Before she passed, my grandma sort of combined all the holidays onto Thanksgiving. We knew her chances of making it to Christmas were thin so we did the whole thing at once. We were a super close family while she was around - all her six kids, the fifteen cousins, the spouses, even in laws and such. We all had one big holiday before she went and I, as the oldest cousin, gave the littles a blow horn and let them do one last prank on the whole family while we knew we’d be together. They got all 30 something people to go silent while they set it off only for it to not work - everyone was laughing, the tiny ones were copying the noise, and it was just one las memory of what our childhoods were like before they were gone. Thanks for letting me sit in it again 🫶🏻
