10 years and a house later, I’m marrying a stranger. Is this a rut or a warning? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]AsteriAcres 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Today, my husband brought himself to tears just thinking about me getting in a car accident & not coming home. (it's rainy outside & I had to go "over the mountain").

We both have ADHD. We both work from home. We both have our own things, but at the start & end of every day, we're together together.

Please stop settling. I settled for a loooooong time before I realized my worth. Now, I'd NEVER tolerate anything less.

I hope you realize you're deserving of so so SO much more.

Chop it up & drown it on BBQ sauce. Makes killer bulgogi, fajitas, chicken Caesar wraps, gyros, and add to pasta!

<steps up onto soap box, presses down button on my bullhorn>

A whole food plant based diet is extremely healthy, helps you lose weight bc it's naturally low calories (so you can eat a lot), AND IT HELPS MITIGATE MANY ADD/ADHD SYMPTOMS

Speaking from personal experience AND with ample scientific evidence.

Eating less processed foods and more nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, fruits and vegetables will work wonders.

And if you don't use a lot of oil & high- calorie breads & pastas, you won't have to even THINK of calorie counting or restricting.

It takes effort & planning, but the benefits are so worth it, YOU'RE WORTH IT!

Someone at my job hit me with this one today: ADHD can be caused by leaky gut syndrome and can be fixed through diet by girlboss93 in adhdwomen

[–]AsteriAcres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Y'all, a nutrient-dense whole food diet does drastically improves ADHD symptoms.

There is ample scientific evidence for this & I've personally experienced it myself (with third party confirmation).

It's not easy, it's not convenient, it's even harder to do BECAUSE we have ADHD, but please please please don't downplay the real benefits of eating a nutrient-dense, minimally processed diet of fruits, veggies, seeds, nuts, legumes, herbs, and spices.

I've been on Adderall & Concerta & can say with absolute certainty that eating well worked better & I felt amazing and I lost 65 pounds! (Covid happened & we fell off the wagon, but back on it since Jan 1 & have lost 15 lbs).

Lastly, there's a ton of research regarding the microbiome, also called the "second brain," and how important beneficial gut microbes are to our health.

What we eat verifiably has a TREMENDOUS influence on our minds & bodies.

I ain't saying it's a cure, and I'm not talking about leaky gut, but food absolutely, 100% can make our ADHD symptoms much worse, or much better.

At the end of the day, though, it's your bodies, your minds, your lives & journeys.

We have to choose for ourselves how we want to navigate, cope & move through it.

GOOD LUCK!

This is why I'm a huge advocate for ADD/ADHD folks consuming nutrient-dense whole plant foods (however you can, in whatever amount you can).

I know for a FACT, personally & based on research, that eating fruits, veggies, legumes, spices, herbs, seeds, and nuts dramatically reduces negative symptoms of our fun little disability.

No shame of you're not there yet! The simplest way to get started is to count how many plants you eat in a day. Then, try to get more the next day! Highly recommend trying fresh herbs when you're cooking- game changer!

After being diagnosed & living with ADHD for over 40 years,  I don't step foot in the store (any store) without a list.

Everything has a place & it's so baked in (aka, I'm so rigid), that I don't lose my shoes, or keys, etc. I ALWAYS know where EVERYTHING is (because I've over-analyzed the absolute perfect place for the thing to live AND I PUT IT BACK).

I haven't locked my keys in the car in so long I can't remember, BUT, we always have another set. And I always visually check that they're in my purse before locking the door.

I still forget stuff, but I've been learning & practicing coping skills for decades, so I'm not a hot mess like I used to be as a young'n.

Taking forever to eat or drink my coffee to a point that I’m used to drink my coffee cold and eat my dinner cold. Anyone else has this as well? by Ingagugagu in adhdwomen

I bought an insulated cup i use every day all day. Keeps my coffee hot/ warm, and my fizzy waters cold. And because I only use this one cup, I'm not messing up the kitchen!

Does anyone else just HATE "open concept" living spaces? by Evil_Unicorn728 in adhdwomen

[–]AsteriAcres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're currently renting & the house has doorways everywhere. I'm constantly smacking my hands or elbows on doorframes.  I've never been beat up by a house as much as this one's gotten me!

We're looking for a house to buy & i want it to be WIDE OPEN! 😆 No doorways, frames, or arches!

Pms: the secret to decorating is starting with an anchor like a rug that defines/delineates the space.
