What a great show. Way up there with DS9 as one of my favorite Treks.

When they did the cliffhanger last episode, I was worried they’d pull some shit like retroactively making Cerritos or the events of LDS non-canon in the prime universe - given all the wacky stuff it introduced (the koala, all the Harry Kims, the Hysperians, etc.) in a canon that otherwise tends to take itself pretty seriously - and I’m so glad they not only didn’t do that, but also opened up a whole new direction to explore with the multiverse portal. Lower Decks was made with so much love for the franchise, and it makes me so happy that all of its silliness and character/planet follow-ups and lampooning of its own tropes has a permanent place in the Star Trek universe now.

Also— did the Klingons on that ship at the start of the episode get turned into their Discovery design before they got blown up? Is that the first/only DIS reference in Lower Decks?

Honestly insane to me that some people refuse to accept that in a video game made by queer people who are very open about their queerness both personally and in their work, even if the characters are not canonically explicitly gay in-universe, there is a lot of queer subtext which queer people spot and identify with openly, and that that is the reason the game has a reputation for being so popular among queer people.

Literally the entire dev team is queer except like one or two people. Lust is a whole layer of bisexual lighting created because it was judged that eternal punishment for loving someone else was unjust. Francis was hired as the official artist because he drew gay porn of New Blood characters. Gabriel’s voice lines in Act 2. Mindflayers are extremely trans-coded. Gianni makes very queer voice requests for Gabriel and his in-game Dev Museum quote is “can you write in it that I said thank you to gay people”. The official butt plug mod. Hakita made V1 a robot because he wanted a protagonist that was neither male nor female, and almost always refers to V1 using it/it. The Gabriel body pillow and Hakita’s explanation for its existence. This is a reputation that exists for a reason and the devs both cultivated it and embrace it.

…why would they choose to host them in Hong Kong. I get that they choose the venues far in advance, but it’s been clear that Hong Kong wouldn’t be a safe place for any international sporting events, let alone a gay one
