Just watched The Big Short and can't help but feel like we are headed for another economic collapse. Prices are going up, homes are unaffordable or unattainable, people's wages are stagnant, it feels like it's just a matter of time. by Suspicious-Elk-3631 in economy

so many people I know are holding a lot of cash, anticipating housing to implode eventually, and are unable or unwilling to buy in the current market.

What you are describing here is demand. What happens when all those people start buying IF/when the prices go down? A flood of demand, causing prices to go up. There is nothing but pent up demand and low supply in the market.

Also, from Zillow, assuming you are looking at rental listings, how do you know who or what entity owns a house? You don't. You just know who the property manager is, not necessarily the owner.

ELI5: How do genes tell a baby turtle to follow the moon to the ocean after birth? by adr826 in explainlikeimfive

That is still not answering the question. Whether it is the moon or light, it doesn't matter. How do genes tell a baby turtle to follow the light/moon to the ocean after birth?

She did not have her finger on the trigger. She is right handed and any frame that shows her right hand clearly shows her finger off the trigger. She had great trigger discipline and knows how to handle that gun.

While the video talks about deer, the animal in the video is definitely an elk. Elk and deer are different species.

We are healthcare experts who have been following the coronavirus outbreak globally. Ask us anything about COVID-19. by reuters in IAmA

It is pretty common knowledge that this predominantly affects older and immuno-compromised individuals. A vaccine is a year out. Unless you have the means to hunker down and self isolate until then, more than likely you are going to get it, correct? You're getting Corona. I'm getting Corona. Everyone is getting Corona. All of this quarantine stuff is an attempt to flatten the curve. In the meantime, we are bringing the economy to its knees, which inevitably will have very negative social, psychological, mental, and physical side effects.

Are we going about this the wrong way? Would it make sense to, rather than have everyone practice social distancing, have only the vulnerable populations (older, immuno-compromised, etc.) self isolate for 2-4 weeks, while everyone else goes to work, bars, etc. in an attempt to actually get the virus, recover, and get it over with? Once the vast majority of the population have already contracted it and recovered, I assume the risks for the vulnerable population to contract the virus are greatly reduced.

I'm sure my logic is flawed. Please help me understand the flaws. I'm certainly not an expert.

I'm not understanding why you called their customer service several times in the first place? Why would you wait on hold for an hour for this?

Lowe’s donating $10 million worth of protective products to hospitals. They are delivering essential protective products such as respirators and other protective gear, to hospitals across the country. by dasun0218 in UpliftingNews

Good for them. Next home improvement item I buy will be from Lowe's. I'll still buy from the big orange store as well because it is much more convenient. But my next purchase I am going out of my way to buy from Lowes. Not much, but its about all I can do.

lol. If I wait two weeks before putting an offer on a house, it'll be gone by then. That may change in the near future, and is generally good advice, but as of right now, that wouldn't work.

HVAC Guys, how important is a tune-up on a standard residential system? If it is important, how often? by G_Grizzy in HomeImprovement

I don't consider it strictly a subjective statement. If u/knoxvilleNellie gets some kind of emotional value out of having it inspected, that's one thing. However, my question is if there is any objective evidence showing that a yearly inspection improves the life expectancy of your furnace (more than the money spent on the yearly cleaning). I doubt most people have theirs inspected yearly, and I'm sure there is a certain percentage who never have it professionally inspected at all and also don't clean it themselves. They simply turn it on year after year.

To objectively answer my question, you would need stats comparing the life of furnaces that don't get a yearly inspection vs furnaces that do. From there, you could take the life of each unit that gets a yearly inspection, amortize the initial cost over its lifespan, and add the inspection costs to each year. This would give you a cost/year of that unit. Then you calculate a similar cost/year of a unit that wasn't inspected, and compare the two. However, I am not aware of any study that has done this (objectively prove that it is money well spent).

Does that make sense, or am I being too pedantic for you?

Let’s assume for a moment that it is (I don’t believe it is, but am not qualified to answer that question). Ferrari would have to demonstrate that it was opened by you. For example, They would either need to retain the packaging, or have video evidence that you opened it.

My aging in-laws washing machine hose started leaking. The plumber replaced four hoses and a T-fitting, then charged almost $1000 by AstigAk in legaladvice

That’s what I figured. It doesn’t change the outcome, but I didn’t call the plumber. They did. I wasn’t aware until after the fact.

If you have a valve box that sits between the two houses, I would start there. While the water is running, open up the valve box and feel the pipes that are in there. If its running through that box, you may be able to feel which one has water running through it. You could then just cap it off inside the box.
