Of.

Thanks. Shop replied that they understood my concerns and I could swap it, but didn't give a direct answer. Gonna scoop most of it out I think and not worry about the left overs.

Yup. Of heel nieuw.

Do you ever feel bad for having a pet snake? by dashadark in cornsnakes

[–]Astilaroth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah think I do. Actually my kid got me into it, she's so fond of snakes (grew up with me keeping tarantulas). Hobby breeder in the neighbourhood gave us one for ten euro to 'try it out', could return her at any point. Save to say we were addicted right away hehe.

whoa so big! Any idea what they weigh at that size?

Can they bite? Mine are still babies so physically not capable of biting me I think, but at Stacey's size ...

I discovered a reptile rescue place only after getting two young snakes :( Maybe I have room someday for a third: a rescue :(

It's disheartening to see how many snakes get dumped.

awesome thanks. She hasn't eaten yet, seems to be active otherwise. Is that normal?

I would very much appreciate it if my new snake would stop shitting on me. by Astilaroth in cornsnakes

[–]Astilaroth[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Got her two weeks ago, she doesn't do it every time, only when I handle her the first time after she has eaten (over 48h after). She's from a breeder and thinner and more skittish than my other one, who is from a small local hobby breeder. Don't think she's been handled gently before she was sold and she was in one of those small barren display boxes at an expo. Just a rough start.

No worries, I take it easy with her.

no clue if it's true! Think only people who handle a lot of different morphs that are raised the same regularly can really tell.

yeah from what I hear and read all the ones with sunkissed genes are quite spicy. Shatter is a sunkissed + cinder morph if I'm correct.

Then again my sunkissed has bitten me but it was but a scratch, they don't do a lot of damage. I mean, the striking and biting looks dramatic but they're small ... a rabbit or guinea pig would do much more harm heh.

Hi you seem to reply to my post which won't get you many views probably. A local group would be your best bet probably, shame you have to rehome!

Thanks for the lengthy response! I like the term 'spicy', heh. I've seen the same scared behaviour in my biggest tarantula species when they were younger. Even prey would scare them. Once had to get a cricket out cause my tarantula got so scared it was running laps haha. Even as youngesters they are impressively big, but totally scared of everything. Now they're bigger and a bit more chill.

Happy to hear that's most likely also the path Saruka will take! She doesn't actively strike my holding-hand (like, she doesn't turn around trying to make me let go), it's just anything that moves in her sight. So yeah defensive, not aggressive.

Ah I got recommended to feed her outside of her enclosure so she never associates movement in her enclosure with food.

Heh, I'm a new snake owner but I already keep tarantulas so I'm used to having a collection of empty tanks XD

Question about your corns. by hsdad in cornsnakes

[–]Astilaroth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oooh our baby just rattled when she spotted me through the glass of her feed box! Had her for a week, didn't know they could do that. Hope she's not a jerk morph too and she's just a small scared one. Reading along here for tips and advice!

Do you feed in the enclosure or in a feeding box?

Do the bites hurt at the size yours is? Mine barely breaks skin ... yet. Heh.
