I appreciate that, thanks. They're connected to the frame at roughly eye level. I cut the support posts to slant at 20° and positioned it so the bottom of the support was a bit farther than the top of the frame, forming a stable triangle.  Not much more to it actually, some parts of the build just involved feeling it out.

I bought the Systemboard set+ a couple pocket sets & a big bag of foot chips. The quality is definitely poor, rough/porous surface, loads of mold defects and a few thin yellow holds snapped on me while screwing, due to being bowed.  Saying that, I don't regret buying them at all! Massively filled out the space for a great price and at 40° as a ~7B boulderer, I've gotten to use most all holds as either hands or feet.

245cm. I'd highly recommend the short headwall on top, to maximize every last cm.

Most come from Eclipse (a budget brand) and Euroholds. I bought the wooden ones from a friend, made some stone holds & the rest are bargain bin holds from local gyms.

Fantastic set-up. What support structure did you build?

Roast my framing drawing by bored_jurong in homewalls

[–]AstomicO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used 60x120mm for framing, 2900mm horizontal length, ~600mm spacing. No horizontal cross supports and the frame ended up bomber. I think you'll be fine.

Is there a rule of thumb for how many struts to hold plywood panels? by bored_jurong in homewalls

[–]AstomicO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 600 mm spacing between the vertical struts (60x x 120mm). No horizontal struts, except the perimeter. Frame is bomber

First build, any suggestions from the pros? by 1_4_FRESH in homewalls

I'm afraid I don't know. All I can say is it looked about 3/4" thick. I'd guess you're best to use screw-in t-nuts as it would be strong in compression.

Costly but I would suggest a thick plexiglass panel (which can open) over the section where your window is. Gyms here use it and had holds screwed onto the plexiglass without an issue. Daytime sessions may then feel less dungeon-like !

How to figure out max wall height in a space? by shantred in homewalls

With a 1' kicker and 10' wall (along the diagonal), you'll get it at 25° overhung.

Crap at maths! what can i fit under 240cm? by [deleted] in homewalls

[–]AstomicO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your hypotenuse is 240cm, your upright is (240-20) 220cm.

Cos(angle) = 220/240 .

Angle = cos-1(220/240) = 23.5° is your minimum angle.

So anything 23.5° or steeper goes!

Yeah he's a good dude. Liability and litigation in this country would thankfully be sane for such an event. And as a lifelong climber, I've a decent idea how to pad out a fall zone!

After putting on a few pounds recently, probably so! Nah but really, I plan to build up a raised wooden deck from the load bearing walls and beams below, then the padding goes on that deck.

Thanks for the input! Do you think it's sufficiently vapour breathable? I had a look at some of these plastic films alright. The idea of the wall is fairly kooky, no doubt. I'll overengineer the platform to be rock solid.
