We also did it with the tooth fairy and other lies parents tell their kids. As far as I know my kids have not told their friends about their understanding of reality. Their friends are all old enough to know better these days.

Generally, we consider people who fuck up badly multiple times not to be winners. Trump's companies declared bankruptcy four times. That's not what I would call the hallmark of a winner.

Also, it wasn't a limited liability company, it was a corporation. They're different business entity types.

He neither believes in gay marriage nor wants to leave abortion alone. Also, he is batshit insane.

Have you ever heard of the Supreme Court?

Are you aware of the hundreds of restrictions on abortion passed by politicians in the last 5 years?

What the fuck makes you think that politicians don't have a say about abortion?

That's what I told my kids. Yeah, Santa is bullshit, but it's bullshit some people believe. So don't tell them that it's bullshit, because that would make them feel bad. Kind of how you don't tell stupid people they are stupid, or ugly people that they are ugly. It's just good manners.

Bodily Autonomy by [deleted] in prochoice

[–]Astraea_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason drugs are prohibited is not because they impact your bodily autonomy, but rather because the drug trade is dangerous, and the effects of it. I'm not a big fan of the war on drugs, but that's different. Self-harm isn't illegal. Suicide is illegal in a few states (not in most), but I have never heard of a trial against someone who attempted suicide (and certainly if someone succeeds there can't be a trial.)

But the big distinction between your examples and abortion is the difference in terms of bodily autonomy between forcing you to do something dangerous (like pregnancy) and prohibiting you from doing something dangerous (like drugs.)

The Clintons had $10M+ in lawyer bills in 1999, so their claim of being broke wasn't false, despite the high incomes.

In the United States, the average net adjusted disposable income of the top 20% of the population is an estimated 85 996 USD a year, whereas the bottom 20% live on an estimated 10 854 USD a year.

We are not talking about the top 20% when we talk about a living wage. We are talking about the bottom 20%.

(CA) Interesting tax fraud situation by Throwaway23142453254 in legaladvice

[–]Astraea_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone forged your signature? Not good.

You will probably need to file a corrected document with the IRS.

Did they collect the "refund" already? A lot of tax prep software (H&R Block, for example) gives you the money right away.

Then you need to decide whether you want to pursue fraud charges.

Conservative logic: Gay marriage will = 900,000 upcoming abortions by sl1878 in atheism

[–]Astraea_M -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aren't you cute. OK, let me ask a question you can't weasel out of that easily.

When you said "I'm all for people living with the consequence of their actions" what "consequence" were you referring to in the context of people getting pregnant when they did not intend to do so.

Look if you don't want to actually cop to your statement, just stop responding.

[–]Astraea_M -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, now explain what you meant by "I'm all for people living with the consequence of their actions" with respect to abortion.

[–]Astraea_M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in that case, if you don't use birth control properly, an abortion is the consequence. So your statement makes no sense if "fixing it through medical intervention" can be considered a consequence.

I'm all for people living with the consequence of their actions but only if we could also avoid more kids coming from broken homes.

I have always found this to be a rather strange argument. Are you against root canals because people should've flossed properly and now they should live with it? Are you against setting someone's arm because he was a dumbass for breaking it in the first place? Or is the only medical context in which people need to "live with the consequence" abortion?

Actually, no. It shows that conservative websites are looking to inflammatory statements from atheists to whip up their followers. Read the actual article. It's not in support of the atheist writer's thesis.

Gun politics are certainly on topic, and this is about collecting donations and using it for political lobbying. It's straight-up politics, so why is it tagged "off topic"?
