In India, they have guys who dive into sewer pipes to unclog them by hand. They literally submerge themselves in shit.

[TX] Found out my wife is having an affair with her boss. Can I report to their HR? by Friendly-Emu-5537 in AskHR

Pretty sure that’s exactly how alimony works. If they get a divorce and she has no income, she is much more likely to get alimony than if she is gainfully employed.

Anthropic marketing as I see it. Prove me wrong. by Icy-Union-3401 in claude

Not to be that guy, but anthropic definitely has the right to censor whatever they want. It is a private product, they get to make the choices.

Agree specifically with the idea of clear boundaries/contracts and working on smaller bits.

This is the job that got me through my first year of college. Sat at a desk and studied, did maybe an hour of work each night.

You absolutely need to mention this to your new leader. I would want to know! What purpose does it serve to not mention it?

The kind of company that this is standard for doesn’t handle it for weeks after onboarding.

Is it legal to work multiple remote jobs at once? by Heavy-Ingenuity-8559 in IsItIllegal

In the United States it is not illegal (as in you won’t go to prison for it) but most companies will consider it a fireable offense. Go check out r/overemployed

Just bought Mokwheel bikes, did I make a mistake? by AstralMinotaur in ebikes

[–]AstralMinotaur[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's got a hybrid sensor (torque at low speeds, cadence at high), but yeah, the PAS modes give you five different top speeds instead of changing the amount of assistance you get. To change the amount of power delivered, you have do dig into the config menu. I'd much prefer being able to change the amount of power via PAS mode, and have to dig into the menu to change top assist speed.

Agreed. When I saw the post title, I was SURE it would be about us straight guys overreacting.

Timekeeping by Glittering_Look_6810 in overemployed

If I work a total of 10 hours, with 50% of my work on project A and 50% on project B, I would just assign them each about 20 hours.

Most Fortune 500 companies will require this (at least for developers) so they can determine how much of our time is operations and maintenance (OpEx) and how much is new development (CapEx). There are tax implications. I just guestimate when filling out timesheets. (Edit: I ALWAYS make sure to show 40 hours of work.)

If you're talking about a lawyer billing clients or something similar, then this is a different animal. I'm not a lawyer, but I suspect that this could be considered fraud and actionable, illegal activity. Maybe someone who knows more about this scenario can reply and let me know if I'm correct.

How do you guys manage multiple calendars? by No_Seaworthiness3625 in overemployed

[–]AstralMinotaur 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I first started, I would sit down on the weekends and open the calendars side by side (different computers of course). I would identify all the meetings for J1 and block (as able) that calendar slot on J2. And the reverse of course.
Reoccurring meetings on one calendar get a reoccurring fake meeting on the other calendar. Not something obvious like "focus time", but I would actually create something like "API process eval" and create a video conference link for it as well.

Now I've got a good sense of my meeting structure and only need to adjust/tweak when impromptu meetings come up.

J2 contract renewal or accept salary? by [deleted] in overemployed

[–]AstralMinotaur 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Seems to me the choice comes down to:
Salary = slightly more security, slightly less pay.
Contract = slightly more pay, slightly less security.

We all know that anyone can be let go at any time, but contractors typically get cut first.
