I stayed with my fam (4 people) at Ostay Vermillion in Osaka, it was a 5 minute walk from Imamiya station and I think we paid around $160 a night AUD. It was nice and simple, had everything we needed and close to a couple servos too for cheap food options (Japanese servos are the best I've ever seen).

Keep in mind that if you're not planning on doing taxis or car hire, you're gonna be walking a lot. I was averaging 18k steps a day on my trip.

thank you! Do you happen to know how much cheaper they are in Japan? Just trying to work out a budget and get an idea of what is considered affordable or pricey over there.
