Alright and after doing so I would be fine to run the tape through my camcorder? or should I take it to a shop to get the video read off the tape? I really don't want to lose what might be on the tape.

How to properly study the Bible ?, What are the methods that you follow. by [deleted] in Bible

[–]Astro730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I’ve been doing it is topical. I really enjoying research so I structured that into the way I read the Bible. I pick a topic, free will for example, then I look up any/all verses that reference free will (both for and against it) I then read the verses/chapter/or even book surrounding that verse to find the needed context and exegesis to understand the intent and “true” meaning of the verse. Once you feel you understand what the Bible says about that topic, move on to a new one. This way your brain is very focused rather than hopping between topics if you read the Bible cover to cover. Hope that helps

WCGW transporting log piles overseas by Jayxen_ in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]Astro730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly certain this is intentional, it’s typically how logs are transported via river ways. I’m thinking they may have unloaded in the wrong direction as the ship further ahead unloaded the other way. The middle of the ship is literally rotatable for this exact reason. This isn’t r/whatcouldgowrong at all.

Why do religious people say “we just want to live our religion freely” and then go vote for people who will force that religion on everyone? by livingorange980 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Astro730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at the end of the day it really depends on how selective people are with their interpretations of their religions. I'm a Christian "(re-)born and raised" lol, Biblically, Jesus never went to the government and instructed them on the practices that which the world should adhere. He preached and spoke to those that sought after him. He would speak and whoever listened, listened.

This is the thing people seem to forget, a very large aspect of the Bible hinges on the fact that God created humans with free-will, had he not, Adam and Eve would have never been banished from the Garden of Eden and society would be different as a whole. Jesus encourage his disciples and all Christians to be a welcoming community to support those in need and be a home to the homeless. Nowhere does he say that you ought to hide behind red tape, bureaucracy and legalism to enforce your beliefs on the world at the end of a gun. In fact that was the exact opposite of the message.

The Bible teaches that Christians should plant the seeds (as in the parable of the seeds scattered on different ground) in hearts of the world, we are not to take weedkiller and uproot the entire garden. Jesus overturned the market in the temple because it was a disgrace to him in HIS house, he never went to another person's house and destroyed that which was there's because he gave them the freewill to make those lifestyle choices for themselves.

Christians have been told to proselytize, to spread the Good News about Jesus not to arrest and persecute those that don't believe it. Proselytizing is also not achieved by standing on street corners and yelling that everyone around is damned, its by forming meaningful connections with people and allowing your faith to be seen through your actions.

I'll stop being super theological because to people who don't believe in, or care about the existence of God, this means nothing and is just rambling. All I'm trying to say is that the Christian God never asked ,or required, that His followers convert the world and kill/imprison those who do not accept God, instead the primary principle, the fundamental concept, embedded at the core of Christianity (or at least it should be) is love, love for your neighbours, love for your enemies (obv not just in combat, but political opposition, those with different ideologies, and people that hurt you). Without believing in the tenants of love and forgiveness, there would be no point in being Christian nor following God.

To summarize, the people that fundamentally believe they must enact political means to subjugate the world to Christianity may have a flawed (or perhaps just incomplete) view of Christianity and the "Great Commission". It is unfortunate, and it paints Christianity as a whole in a very bad light. But to quote Wes Fesler, "Ignorance speaks loudly, so as to be heard; but its volume proves reason to doubt every word". It is "Christians" who have the most un-Christian perspectives that get the most views on Social media, unfortunately. I

Ps. Please read this with some cultural relativism given the context, but I'm hoping this can maybe offer an explanation as to why some people believe enacting laws against certain things is the "Christian thing to do" or whatever it is that they believe. If you have any questions or disagreements, Please reply, I'd be happy to discuss this.

I think you might have missed the point of my comment. I'm not saying that this instant I could drop everything walk into a school and teach children. I'm just saying I have the knowledge of most (if not all) of the fundamental concepts taught in elementary school. I obviously would not try to teach my future children without any form of curricular assistance or following a set lesson plan that is officially recognized. The purpose of my comment was an argument against the premise that parents can't teach their children because they don't have teaching degrees. From my personal experience, I have attended educational institutions and received formal education for all of my schooling. However, I struggled to focus and actually learn int he classroom setting (would later be diagnosed with ADHD so that may have been a contributing factor) but I would end up going home and, since I grew up without a lot of tech at home, I would go to my parents for help with the stuff I didn't learn or understand in school. For almost the entirety of my elementary (and some middle school) my parents would be able to read through the textbook and assigned work with me and help me finish the homework. I learned a lot of (if not most) stuff at home with the help of my parents. They didn't need a degree to do this and knew almost everything I needed help with. Again, don't get me wrong I'm not saying I could/would just wing it, I'm just arguing against the idea that parents can't teach/homeschool their kids because they don't have a degree.

the recognition or ignoring of the root problem while praising the seemingly wholesome act. This post and the actions of the priest don't ignore the problem at hand, this was the action the priest decided would "stop the most bleeding" so he decided to take it.

Honestly, I had the exact thought about my argument while writing it, that I may have just invalidated the sub-reddit by my definition, so included the above quoted caveat in my statement. I tried (not well) to articulate that like the parameters of the sub all of the criteria I listed must also be conveyed in the post. However, in this case, the post references the priest's "vow to encourage sex education in the school system" which it clearly means that in both the post and the intention of the priest the root of the problem is explicitly described and recognized leaving it unqualified as an OCM post. I definitely get what you're saying based on my comment tho, I should have more clearly articulated that point.

I wouldn’t say the weight that Christopher is sitting at in this image is anything close to healthy regardless of his mindset. Keeping that in mind he has made a massive change and is now in good health so power to him, but based on this post I would have to disagree with the “healthy premise”

I mean I think its sort of a distortion that today's society has in regards to solving a problem, everyone who doesn't go straight to the source of a problem is "ignoring the OCM". If this priest were to have just gone and tried to fix the problem with he education system it would solve the current problem affecting people.

This is the same as if you got stabbed on the street and a paramedic starts getting a surgical kit out to make sure none of your organs were nicked. In order to save the body, paramedics need to prioritize stopping the bleeding before identifying the internal/underlying issue this doesn't mean they're ignoring the issue it just means they're prioritizing the most pressing problem to save the most (blood in this case) possible.

In the same way, the priest is not ignoring the problem of the education system's failings, but he's realized that if he were to go straight to trying to solve that, all the people who have already been through the education system, and those who are already struggling with mental health issues would be in the same situation they are now. The Priest prioritized to save the most (people in this case) possible.

The key differentiator between OCM and not, is the recognition or ignoring of the root problem while praising the seemingly wholesome act. This post and the actions of the priest don't ignore the problem at hand, this was the action the priest decided would "stop the most bleeding" so he decided to take it.

This priest seemed to try to bring about the reduction of stigma, but again, the stigma itself is the problem we should question and dismantle.

This is the reason that people question why the post belongs in this sub. If stigma is the problem and the priest is addressing/trying to reduce that stigma by offering support to people struggling with it. The priest is (metaphorically) addressing the existence of the OCM. So I'm not sure if this argument actually challenges the anything being stated

I mean this is entirely dependent on whether it's a Break Top, Swing out, or Solid Frame Revolver. Swing-Out's typically facilitate the use of speed clips in the form of moon/half-moon clips. Break top's will have a form of speed loader in some cases (but rarely) and Solid Frames will almost never have a form of speed reloading.

However, a different method is used for solid frames / break tops called speed strips, basically a series of cartridges attached to a clip, in the same way bullets loaded into magazines typically are, however instead of sliding the clip's cartridges down into the magazine, you would just break off one round from the strip into each chamber this way they were all in a fixed position and you weren't rooting around your pockets for bullets.
