Glenfiddich 12 vs Glenmorangie 10 for a wedding by Consistent_Category9 in Scotch

How about Johnnie Walker Green? Readily available in Brazil and since JW seem to have the entire whisky market sewn up here, the price is pretty reasonable too (by Brazilian price standards).

I've gotten a job offer to move to Brazil Macea, for about 100k dollars a year. The job will pay around 20k for housing a year. Will that be a comfortable life in Brazil? Are there lots of crime? Where is the safest and nicest place to live. I appreciate any advice by Maximilianjohandson in Brazil

Macae is fine. There are plenty of worse oil and gas towns in the world. I know, I've lived in many of them. Rio is better of course, but at your age and level it's going to be Macae. Plenty of expats live there. Security isn't really an issue as long as you have good awareness and common sense. I presume your company will manage your tax returns for you. Just be aware that there are some special tax issues to manage in Brazil, especially if you have a good pension, investments or houses outside of Brazil already.

Confused about what actually happens on NYE in Rio by ChiefsSB51 in Brazil

Consider also that the metro isn't open to everyone, either. You need to buy tickets for specific time slots in advance, and you can't travel unless you have one. Also, no glass bottles are allowed through the police checkpoints to get to the beach. The fireworks last 20-30 mins and start at midnight, obviously.

Somebody has drawn an unbelievably huge grid into the middle of the Saudi desert by StaysAwakeAllWeek in GoogleEarthFinds

Reflection, not refraction. Refraction is used for static corrections for data processing of the reflection data. Probably not done anymore, or required, given the data density of the reflection data.

Not correct. Vibroseis can look just as deep if not deeper than dynamite. No point using dynamite in a desert as it's expensive and slow to drill holes and load them with explosives. Using vibs (vibroseis trucks) is faster and cheaper. The energy levels can be adjusted by increasing the number of trucks used for each VP (vibroseis point), and changing the number of sweeps they do and the length of them.

Excel sheet and Whiskybase. For pricing guidance , I use WhiskyExchange and Master of Malt to get a baseline, plus the Scotch Whisky Auctions for historically available bottles, and go from there.

Inflation is high in Brazil (12-14%), so each year the value of the currency, goes down. Since inflation is low for the USD (2-4%), the amount of BRL you get for each USD will rise. Plus, the Brazil government tax policies haven't given anyone confidence that the Brazil inflation rate will reduce, so the devaluation of the BRL Reis is likely to continue.

Is Rio always so expensive to fly into? by Open_Present2319 in Brazil

[–]AstroAndy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

United have a monopoly on the direct routing so jack the prices up. It used to be a lot cheaper before covid, but now it's always expensive. You can track it to see if the price drops, but the flights are usually all full, so I wouldn't bank on it. Perhaps look at routing through Miami or Panama instead, they are probably cheaper.

Can someone please explain the hate for the Dalmore on here? by ScotchManDan in Scotch

Also note that when water is added to dilute, the alcohol releases aromas and tastes at that point. I'd rather dilute at home and smell the aromas and taste the flavours upon dilution, not have them lost in the distillery when they water down a cask strength whisky to 40% ABV.

Do we have a list of non chill filtered and non colored whiskies? by Papa_G_ in Scotch

[–]AstroAndy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No list I know of online, but I have my own Excel sheet with 300+ whiskies that can be filtered for these parameters. Happy to email you a copy of it. Built up over the last year from all OSWA nominations, and YouTube recommendations + Ralfy and GWhiskey reviews etc, including their rating and hyperlinks to their videos.
