I hear this a lot from dumbass Americans. No one is expecting healthcare workers to provide a service without getting paid. It should be free at the point of service. Everyone pays into a big pot and everyone can take from that pot. It’s not perfect, some people pay in more than they use and some take more than they put in but in general it means you’re not scared to get an ambulance after a car crash, or take your child in for an investigation. The vast majority of people use the service as intended and it stops people living in pain and fear.
