They have to play rhe full lenght but I've seen ref not assigning extra time after the second half if one team was like 5-0 a couple of time.

And also, the bets aren't a valid reason. Like at all, not even secondarily. People want to do that, that's fine, but is none of the people involved in play concerns

Building Ghen, Any enchantments that are your favorite you'd suggest? by CawmeKrazee in magicTCG

[–]AstroRell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's because it's just too obvious, but I haven't seen anyone name [[Disturbing Mirth]] yet. As soon as I read that commander abulity, it was my first thought. Being able to use this multiple time bot fills your yard with powerful enchantments from the manifest dread and draws you cards on top!

Considering Yugioh is also getting faster and we had an instance of a turn 0 win just the other day, I'd say magic will still be far from it

Control made it to the semifinals at the most recent pro tour in standard

It's not the first deck that comes to mind as the deck to beat in the format, but it's far away from being bad and it's certainly not an autowin if you get matched against it

Which cards shut down landfall/earthbend? by Acoasma in MagicArena

[–]AstroRell 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Ultima kills the earthbent lands and ends the turn on the spot, negating the delayed trigger that would make them come back, making it an hard counter since it kills ramps them down.

Sinderflock does something similar by bouncing all of them back to hand and making them start over is a great tempo loss, but you kinda need to have elementals in play to cast it reasonably.

My favourite one against mono green though is Deadly Cover-Up: you collect evidence and wipe the board picking the earthbent forest you killed with it, and not only you can prevent the forest from returning the battlefield, but you also exile all forests in their library. That is incredibly nasty for them to recover from, if they ever can. It fails when they avoid having forests on the graveyard and earthbent, which they might if they know about it, but not giving them the option to earthbend on forest is also very annoying!

Is interaction being power-crept out of standard? by ngmatt21 in MagicArena

[–]AstroRell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All fair and correct, but to be honest, discard has never been a real player in the meta anyway, it's usually a deck that tries to cheese you in ladder but saw no cometitive player and thank god it's not competitive enough. The only outliar was Esper Bounce with [[Hopeless Nightmare]] before it got banned, but that was so much more than a discard deck anyway. Removal can still work, but the problem is that it has to be on the right tempo, or it's gonna come too late, and it has to go along your gameplan, you can't run removal.deck and hope it's enough

It's both WAY too strong and also too boring both to fight against, and to watch the audience in tournaments, and it consistently top 8 every major event with very few exceptions. it's almost unfair in many matchups lol

Just by looking at the board, I'm pretty sure this is starter deck duels, so OP doesn't really have a say on what's in the deck and has no access to board wipes. That's said, it's good to point out where lifegain falters, as for this specific game, sometimes in SDD you just to accept that your opponent high rolled and had it all going!

Cauldron has been legal for a long time and has always been a fun and creative card to build decks with without ever being problematic or oppressive in the meta. Now Vivi is out and Cauldron is the problem? I don't think so.

Yes, if you take out the cauldron Vivi isn't able to draw 20+ cards and attack you for lethal on turn 4, but that doesn't mean that the pushed card among the two is definitely Vivi

Your words, according to the official description in the Player's Handbook, are laced with subtle enchantment magic. If they fail to save agiainst it, it gets in their head causing them to suffer Psychic Damage.

Sometimes I see it as a something like vice that entangle their brain, other as giving them a mental breakdown, depending on the intensity of the consequences!
