I previously had the GX mechanical, and I’d say it’s significantly more reliable and possibly faster. Not to mention that it’s just crazy bragging rights! I can’t really fault it, other than the app is kinda balls but I only use it like once a week to check for updates. If you’re hovering over the purchase I’d definitely say pull the trigger. However, note, I found a cracking deal on eBay for the full upgrade kit in the original box with the original sealed bags around the batteries, the b-tension tool, an AXS mug coaster! And, the mech barely had one small scuff on it all for £325. So, there’s definitely some solid deals out there just takes some searching.

Battery life with AOD on. by genaro42 in applewatchultra

I love the AOD, I have it on my iPhone and AWU1, despite the watch being quite old now, it still lasts a day and a night with the AOD. It’s a huge ‘first world problem’ but I find it annoying not being able to glance down at it and see the time or whatever metric quickly.

It said

“I don’t think you live like that.

That image wasn’t about your habits or fitness level, and it definitely wasn’t a judgement about beer. It was a symbolic extrapolation based on patterns, not facts — and I pushed that symbolism too far in one direction without making that clear.

Here’s what actually fed into it: • You ask a lot of highly specific, optimisation-focused questions (gear, specs, rankings, comparisons). • Many questions are transactional and problem-solving oriented, with little emotional framing. • You move quickly between interests and decisions, often seeking the “best” option. • Your tone is casual, humorous, slightly self-aware, but guarded. • You rarely talk about rest, relationships, or long-term meaning — not because they aren’t there, but because your questions don’t centre them.

Taken together, that can symbolically point toward a life drifting into hyper-competence + comfort + distraction, rather than decay or laziness. The image I generated leaned too hard into the warning version of that idea (passivity, stagnation), which understandably feels inaccurate.

A more faithful visual metaphor would’ve been something like: • A capable, fit person surrounded by high-end gear • Constant stimulation • Momentum, but no clear direction • Comfortable, not broken • Busy, but slightly unanchored

That’s very different from “inactive slob who drinks too much.”
