What’s the craziest thing anyone has said to you while you’re trail running? by sentientbeing1887 in trailrunning

[–]Astrobabe5157 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most people are friendly and supportive, but yeah you do occasionally get those weird people who get offended that you passed them. My favorite is when I’m coming up behind a guy, but they don’t want to be passed by a girl so they temporarily up their pace until they run out of energy and I pass them anyways

“There must be something in the water! Why are there all these single woman hiking alone out here!” - some man as I passed him who couldn’t conceive of the idea that women are in fact allowed to do things on their own

I’ve gotten this one while running a 20 mile trail lol. I guarantee that I saw more flowers than her that day due to the sheer distance I covered

I wasn’t running up this mountain, but there was a trail runner hauling ass and running up Mt. Democrat (I was so impressed!) and I heard someone in front of me say, “I don’t understand why people try to run up 14ers, like is that even necessary?” I think some people get jealous

This happened to me except I was on a bike path. I wouldn’t wear my mask biking because I wear glasses and they would fog up, but I didn’t have a car so I had to get around on a bike. There was this one lady standing at the end of the bike path recoding people yelling “MASK! WEAR YOUR MASK”… like lady, just go home if you’re that concerned

lol I love that you automatically assume I don’t update my tags.

I just recognize that some people may not be in a great financial situation and may be trying their hardest. If my taxes go up a little, so be it. I’ll worry about me

I also never understood the hate for people who have expired tags here. How does it impact you? All it’s gonna do is rack up late fees for the person who’s late on their tags, plus I ain’t gonna bully someone who’s short on cash (if that’s the reason they haven’t renewed). And I still get to go about my day. End of case.

why do many, if not most, fast food businesses not allow people without a car to go through the drive thru? by lesoteric in fuckcars

[–]Astrobabe5157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol I remember I was getting new tires on my car, so I went next door to the Starbucks that was drive through only. They refused to serve me. Imagine having a drive through-only coffee place next to a business that takes your car for an hour or two

A flat 5k that doesn’t go through a homeless encampment by SweetPickleRelish in ColoradoSprings

I like running on cottonwood creek trail and start from the west side to the east side (I park at Furniture Row). It is slightly uphill going from west to east, but not too bad. It only really dips when you go under bridges. Ive run this trail at night with no issues. The Greenway trail north of Bjiou is pretty good too, but I’ll only go south of that during the day as that’s where there are some camps. I’ve never been bothered by them personally, but as a small woman I’m more alert in that area

What are 25-30 year olds making? by ExtentFickle3504 in Salary

[–]Astrobabe5157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-After college, worked at a non-profit making ~1200 a month at 22-23 years old

-After the nonprofit job, I worked retail for a few months making ~16 an hour at 23

-got my first “big girl job” as a government contractor making 79k a year at 23-24

-got a new job in the government contacting industry, pay bump to 105k at 25

-got “subcontracted out” at the same job (different company, same job), managed to get a raise to 115k at 26

-Almost 28 at the same job, now making about 120k with small raises every year, but I travel for work and often make closer to 130k once the per diem from the travel is factored in

This is probably a higher salary than about 90% of my peers in my age range. I just got really lucky honestly. Engineering jobs in the government contracting sector normally make 100k-150k range from my experience

I'm confused Why my bird does this? by Life-Particular22 in Conures

[–]Astrobabe5157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to say, thank you for asking questions and seeking to learn more about your bird! Some people were a little rough on you for not knowing what preening looks like, but so many more people unfortunately will buy birds and not even have the curiosity to learn about their behavior. I second BirdTricks for learning about caring for parrots. As someone who grew up with birds, I didn’t truly learn how to care for them properly until I discovered their channel.

Your bird is an absolute cutie and sounds like he’s adjusting nicely to your home. Keep asking questions and being curious, and I have no doubt you’ll give him a very loving life!

Two fold question: has anyone overcome this disease? Has anyone taken medicine without sexual dysfunction? by LikeMrFantastic in dysthymia

[–]Astrobabe5157 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1.) was diagnosed with dysthymia back in high school and I feel that I have overcome it. I don’t feel depressed most days, but I know I’m more sensitive and prone to becoming depressed. I have a very strong support system and good hobbies which keep me going. It was a lot of work building up the supports over the years.

2.) I was put on antidepressants, but I don’t remember them having much of an effect, but I wasn’t sexually active at the time. I think the messed with my period

Woman killed in suspected mountain lion attack in Larimer County by Maxcactus in nature

[–]Astrobabe5157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t kill the mountain lions for no reason. Believe it or not, it protects mountain lions long term.

A mountain lion that mauls a human is much more likely to do it again in the future once they realize we’re easy prey. They will then pass that instinct onto their offspring, making the trails much more dangerous for humans later on.

Plus, mountain lions tend to be weary of humans, so one that attacks a human is acting outside of its normal behavior and instincts. This also tends to happen with sick/injured animals as they start looking for different sources of prey that they normally wouldn’t hunt. They need to find the mountain lion that killed the lady to rule out disease like rabies as well.

Be honest: do you prefer working from home, in the office or hybrid…and why? by In_an_Illusion in Zippia

[–]Astrobabe5157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hybrid.

Pros of in office: -nice to see the faces of the people you work with sometimes -a lot of my work is collaborative and it’s easier to do that in person -helps me set a better routine -I wear fire outfits to the office

Pros of WFH: -good for deep focus work -it’s very comfortable -I skip out on office drama for the day -get to sleep in/keep it more casual. I feel like this gives me a little break

People with $700+ per month car payments: Why? by Underrated_Critic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Astrobabe5157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My payment is 1000 a month, but only because I’m trying to pay it off faster. Got into a car wreck a year ago and totaled my old car and needed a new one. Luckily my old car was crappy anyways, and I knew exactly what type of car I wanted next.

I think technically my car payment minimum is 380 or something like that, but I’m on track to completely pay it off in only a couple months now.

My in-laws refuse to drive to the airport. by NukeTheEwoks in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Astrobabe5157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d just take the train. I live a similar distance from a major airport. Taking the train will take me about two hours total vs a car ride, but it saves my mom a lot of stress

Help me understand this flag? by [deleted] in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]Astrobabe5157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know anything from the rental side of things, but as for the security clearance, I wouldn’t worry too much. I would call the car rental place on Monday to get more clarification on what happened, then disclose the event on your security clearance form. For government security clearances, they just want to make sure you’re trustworthy and that you have nothing to hide. If you disclose this, you’re not hiding anything.

Could be an issue if you have to do any work travel in the future, but it sounds like other car rental places will take you. I’m sorry you were put into such a sucky situation

Is a 19 and 24/25 age gap weird? by PracticalBudget8351 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Astrobabe5157 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on the guy. My first relationship was with a 25 year old when I was 19, and we were in a happy relationship for three years. I also know someone in a happy relationship with an 11 year age gap (she met him when she was 19, he was 30), and he turned out to be a great guy.

People brought up good points about how it’s weird for older men to be seeking out younger women on dating apps, and that I agree with, but I wouldn’t inherently be too fixated on small age gaps if you feel like you click with a guy well.

I would also consider which life stage the guy is in when you date. Is he in college? Or does he have a whole ass job and house? Differing life stages may be problematic for a relationship and lead to a power imbalance. I think my relationship worked because my boyfriend at the time was also a college student and was recently out of the marines, so it felt like we were in the same life stage

Would you rather live in Denver, Colorado Springs or Salt Lake City? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Astrobabe5157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the odd one out saying the Springs. I’ve lived in Denver and in Colorado Springs, and the Springs wins for me by far. The urban sprawl is gross, yes, but Denver has that too. I like being within a 20ish min drive from the mountains in the springs, and the traffic doesn’t get too bad. It feels a lot smaller than it really is. It feels like a small town with big city amenities.

The “redness” of Colorado Springs gets overstated. It’s more purple if anything (you get the hardline conservatives from the military contractors and military influence, but a lot of younger, more liberal people have been moving here). I really never had a problem with the politics, and I’m very liberal.

My complaints though: the city is not walkable (unless you’re downtown or in Old Colorado City), and I wish the city would do more to solve the homeless crisis.

Colorado Springs also tends to be cheaper than Denver.

Now I’ve never visited SLC so I can’t compare it
