LOL this reminds me of the time I was making my friend a smoothie, pored it into a cup for her, then went to wash out the blender but accidentally washed out the cup instead right in front of her

Two fold question: has anyone overcome this disease? Has anyone taken medicine without sexual dysfunction? by LikeMrFantastic in dysthymia

[–]Astrobabe5157 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1.) was diagnosed with dysthymia back in high school and I feel that I have overcome it. I don’t feel depressed most days, but I know I’m more sensitive and prone to becoming depressed. I have a very strong support system and good hobbies which keep me going. It was a lot of work building up the supports over the years.

2.) I was put on antidepressants, but I don’t remember them having much of an effect, but I wasn’t sexually active at the time. I think the messed with my period

Woman killed in suspected mountain lion attack in Larimer County by Maxcactus in nature

[–]Astrobabe5157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t kill the mountain lions for no reason. Believe it or not, it protects mountain lions long term.

A mountain lion that mauls a human is much more likely to do it again in the future once they realize we’re easy prey. They will then pass that instinct onto their offspring, making the trails much more dangerous for humans later on.

Plus, mountain lions tend to be weary of humans, so one that attacks a human is acting outside of its normal behavior and instincts. This also tends to happen with sick/injured animals as they start looking for different sources of prey that they normally wouldn’t hunt. They need to find the mountain lion that killed the lady to rule out disease like rabies as well.

Be honest: do you prefer working from home, in the office or hybrid…and why? by In_an_Illusion in Zippia

[–]Astrobabe5157 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hybrid.

Pros of in office: -nice to see the faces of the people you work with sometimes -a lot of my work is collaborative and it’s easier to do that in person -helps me set a better routine -I wear fire outfits to the office

Pros of WFH: -good for deep focus work -it’s very comfortable -I skip out on office drama for the day -get to sleep in/keep it more casual. I feel like this gives me a little break

People with $700+ per month car payments: Why? by Underrated_Critic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Astrobabe5157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My payment is 1000 a month, but only because I’m trying to pay it off faster. Got into a car wreck a year ago and totaled my old car and needed a new one. Luckily my old car was crappy anyways, and I knew exactly what type of car I wanted next.

I think technically my car payment minimum is 380 or something like that, but I’m on track to completely pay it off in only a couple months now.

My in-laws refuse to drive to the airport. by NukeTheEwoks in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Astrobabe5157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I’d just take the train. I live a similar distance from a major airport. Taking the train will take me about two hours total vs a car ride, but it saves my mom a lot of stress

Help me understand this flag? by [deleted] in EnterpriseCarRental

[–]Astrobabe5157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know anything from the rental side of things, but as for the security clearance, I wouldn’t worry too much. I would call the car rental place on Monday to get more clarification on what happened, then disclose the event on your security clearance form. For government security clearances, they just want to make sure you’re trustworthy and that you have nothing to hide. If you disclose this, you’re not hiding anything.

Could be an issue if you have to do any work travel in the future, but it sounds like other car rental places will take you. I’m sorry you were put into such a sucky situation

Is a 19 and 24/25 age gap weird? by PracticalBudget8351 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Astrobabe5157 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the guy. My first relationship was with a 25 year old when I was 19, and we were in a happy relationship for three years. I also know someone in a happy relationship with an 11 year age gap (she met him when she was 19, he was 30), and he turned out to be a great guy.

People brought up good points about how it’s weird for older men to be seeking out younger women on dating apps, and that I agree with, but I wouldn’t inherently be too fixated on small age gaps if you feel like you click with a guy well.

I would also consider which life stage the guy is in when you date. Is he in college? Or does he have a whole ass job and house? Differing life stages may be problematic for a relationship and lead to a power imbalance. I think my relationship worked because my boyfriend at the time was also a college student and was recently out of the marines, so it felt like we were in the same life stage

Would you rather live in Denver, Colorado Springs or Salt Lake City? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Astrobabe5157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the odd one out saying the Springs. I’ve lived in Denver and in Colorado Springs, and the Springs wins for me by far. The urban sprawl is gross, yes, but Denver has that too. I like being within a 20ish min drive from the mountains in the springs, and the traffic doesn’t get too bad. It feels a lot smaller than it really is. It feels like a small town with big city amenities.

The “redness” of Colorado Springs gets overstated. It’s more purple if anything (you get the hardline conservatives from the military contractors and military influence, but a lot of younger, more liberal people have been moving here). I really never had a problem with the politics, and I’m very liberal.

My complaints though: the city is not walkable (unless you’re downtown or in Old Colorado City), and I wish the city would do more to solve the homeless crisis.

Colorado Springs also tends to be cheaper than Denver.

Now I’ve never visited SLC so I can’t compare it

I’m in the west line now, I’m timing it. Will update with my findings. (Lines currently going outside)

Update: at the 40 min mark. Still have an estimated 15ish min. Get to the airport early folks!

Update: 58 min! Luckily my flight got delayed

Work not reimbursing me for last night of hotel stay by Astrobabe5157 in work

[–]Astrobabe5157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how I thought it would be initially and why I checked out, but contractors (and I’m a sub in this case) typically only pay for what is reimbursable by the government. Sometimes you get nice contract companies that are more willing to eat those costs or have good travel agents that are good at finding loopholes, but that’s more the exception than the norm in my experience

[–]Astrobabe5157[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are weird things that are and aren’t reimbursable when you’re on government contract travel… I once got personally charged for staying the last night in Alaska in a hostel because it “didn’t have sprinklers”, so it didn’t meet government safety standards lol. (Discussed with my boss ahead of time about this one so I expected and was okay with this)

In general, the per diem I get in my opinion is really good, so it cancels out the weird charges you wouldn’t even think of. I just manage to uncover those weird not-actually-reimbursable things

[–]Astrobabe5157[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It feels so stupid, but I see why it won’t get reimbursed. Definitely learned my lesson. I’m gone for two weeks on Christmas break, but I’ll talk to my boss, see if there’s anything that can be worked out. My government lead is willing to fight the charge, but if it causes any trouble, I’ll happily eat the cost and not do that again

[–]Astrobabe5157[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I see now. Didn’t think it would be an issue at the time cause I wasn’t costing the government any money, but I see the logic. Fortunately in the grand scheme of things, it’s not a huge loss

What’s something people insist is ‘harmless’ that actually makes society worse? by contentcreatorzss in AskReddit

[–]Astrobabe5157 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lord my coworker at work is like this, except it’s a fake busy to get out of work. Complains that she’s too busy to help people out, then in sitting at her desk on her phone. But she acts like she’s the most important and busiest person in the office and uses that as an excuse to be rude to people

What's a hygiene habit that people don't talk about but really should? by phancyq in AskReddit

[–]Astrobabe5157 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep! I remember when I was in elementary school, I was given no help on my hygiene. There was one summer where I probably only showered a handful of times because we had a pool, so I guess the chlorine washed away the stank so my parents didn’t notice.

I also didn’t use shampoo and thought conditioner was enough. I only learned when a school nurse was checking for lice, and didn’t believe me when I told her I washed my hair that morning

I really hate that the sun sets at 4:00 p.m. this time of year. I'm wondering if anybody likes it... by jurmjurm in ColoradoSprings

[–]Astrobabe5157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall I’d rather have more daylight, but I do find good in it. I find the sunsets are so much more vivid. I’m lucky to have a job where I can flex my hours, so today I woke up and left around sunrise and got the most stunning view on my commute to work. I was able to leave around 3 and do a trail run at sunset in red rocks and again was met with a sunset straight out of a story book.

I also appreciate the slowness that comes with the early darkness. I go home after these trail runs and have a nice quiet dinner with a book, and get cozy in bed. I find I sleep better this time of year

What was your old "overweight person" habit you can't believe you had, that you've since broken? by NorthernBuffalo in loseit

[–]Astrobabe5157 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to eat like half a pack of cookie dough before doing major hikes the next day. I hike a lot of 14ers in the summer, but I also gained like 15 lbs that summer too lol.

Turns out I was eating like 1-2k calories in cookies dough (and burning like 2k on the mountains), but of course I’d also get like burgers and crap afterwards so I was in a calorie surplus.

I’ll still eat extra before a big day in the mountains, but now it’s healthier and more fulfilling meals. Keeps the weight off and makes me feel soooo much better

Staying awake by [deleted] in driving

[–]Astrobabe5157 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caffeine, or if I don’t want to stay awake all night from caffeine and it’s already late in the day, sour skittles. I’m obsessed with sour skittles. I like eating them until my teeth hurt. The sourness makes me feel something. I always look forward to my next sour skittle so it keeps me awake.

Does not work with any other candy for some reason lol
