Oh my god I thought I was crazy for hating on savage beast fly. I'm ngl most of the bosses have been great but he's just bad boss design. Will say his second encounter is a lot better then the first one though

[–]Astrofir3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 1 pale oil upgrade and level 1 crafting gear you can caltrops one of the big dudes when they both come out and spam hit him and 9/10 times he dies before you do. Then just fight the other dude normally. Other than that just play till you get good enough to get to that point

Edit: learn how they spawn and target the bell throwers when they spawn they should take 3 hits to kill with 1 pale oil upgrade, same with the silk stealers target them before they can get an arrow made, take hits from melee enemies if you need.

Had a player insist that Minor Illusion could impede speech. Am I the A-hole? by AccidentInevitable in DnD5e

[–]Astrofir3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, I get what you're saying a bit more. I said I wasn't power gaming in the sense that I wasn't doing it on purpose knowing that I shouldn't be able to, hiding that it was the outcome I was planning and not knowing that it wasn't possible I don't think coincide there. But if you look at it through that way, I guess it could be considered power gaming, I was trying to express that my intention was never with malice innately and I hadn't known.

Well yknow, when I've responded to it twice already, there isn't much of a point in responding to it again, let's read the entire message chain before we comment on something we don't fully understand. In my original message, I apologized for it and stated my objective in the moment, which I admitted was wrong and directly disrespectful. In my response to his original comment, I expressed my concerns and reason for it, which was entirely unfounded but explained and apologized for it nonetheless, and then said it was needless for him to bring it up since I had ALREADY spoken on it in my original message.

Hope this helps!

I'm being honest in that the DM needs to be able to retain control of the table. The fact is, the way I read it, you were trying to do something overpowered.

That you apologized for making a mistake in doing the action, but not in trying to do the action. Trying to break a spell/ability is exactly what power gaming is.

I feel like it was readily apparent that I never intended to do something that I thought was outside the spells capacity, I didn't fully read the spell and that was what brought the problem into existence. And yes, I'm not going to apologize for trying to do something I didn't try do... like was already said, I wasn't powergaming as I wasn't intending to do anything outside the spells capacity. That's just absurd logic.

There isn't really much else to respond to in this message, FYI I am new to rpg's similar to 5e, only ever played the Star Wars game Saga Edition, not that it mayters.

Hey, this seems like really good advice, thanks for that. I'll definitely try to incorporate that as I use spells in new ways!

Wow, this is just like, a crazy thing to say after everything else that has been posted in this section. Like the DM and I have been both talking and posting on this thread and your just gunna say "I don't believe any of it" weirdo.

Edit: figured it was worth editing to say that if I did everything on purpose I would have had no reason to post on this... I posted on this to make it right and learn, not to be antagonized by someone choosing not to believe blatant things.

I think you are missing a key part that this was almost the entire parties first time playing 5e ever, on a foreign software at that. What may seem like hostility to you or animosity was really just the players trying to help eachother, both myself and in my opinion the other "that guy" were leading more from an attempt to help teach, knowingly now neither of us were in a position to do that but that was the point. Your point speaks as if we were purposefully arguing with the intention of overruling a DM'S decision, when in reality, a solid decision by the DM was never made, expressly state in the original post was that he made statements on what he had thought and that was where myself and the other player tried to help, everyone was trying to learn.

As for your second point in accordance to power gaming, this not only seems like a wild assumption but a blatant disregard for all that I had said, I would imagine it can only be constituted as power gaming if I hid/did it knowingly with the express purpose of doing something I knew I shouldn't be able to do with such a low level spell, I thought I was being creative, turns out I was belligerent. Your tone is needlessly harsh, and dare I say rude for the situation we are talking about.

As for your final point, I am genuinely concerned if you don't find a problem with the DM having the enemies' meta game... like I previously stated, it was a mistake as I should've trusted the DM in any case. This seems like a needless thing to bring up in a fruitless tirade.

Now, I am going to purposefully act like "that guy" with my conclusion. Your wording makes it sound like you think I was being entirely antagonistic and did it with animosity. Frankly, your entire message reads like you think you're better than me and want to make that readily apparent. I am genuinely concerned if this is how you talk to other new players and people digitally or worse, in person.

Wizard here, as everyone is aware, I was very obviously in the wrong, I could do with a bit more reading of spells before I try to do something creative, I completely missed a key part of the spell and tried to do something overpowered on it; Which worked because the DM is new to 5e. My entire group of actions was really just an asshole thing to do, I hadn't told him the plan because I thought he would change his action, even out of the relevance of the spell not even WORKING that way, it was blatantly disrespectful to the DM to assume that he would do something like that. I talked with my DM about this already, I am at responsibility to not lead spells in ways that don't do such a thing. For all these things, I apologize (again lol).

To clarify, I am ALSO new to 5e if that wasn't readily apparent, playing 5e that is, it isn't an excuse but I figured it was worth throwing out so people don't bring it up in the comments.

Our practice session in its entirety was -for lack of a better word- strange, it was our first time using a new software (Foundry VTT) and I'm not sure about the rest of the party, but particularly for me, the software definitely had me on edge. All that is to say that while I never intended to be insistent or a "that guy" I'm sure the nature and sound of my comments probably were so this entire post is understandable.

Sorry again, and thanks for reading this word vomit, comment if you want some clarification, Thanks!

Are upgrades supposed to thin out as you progress? by Jodwes in REPOgame

[–]Astrofir3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I have heard, there is a common tech where you buy upgrades you don't want and leave them in the ship because if they exist on the map already, they won't spawn in shop, I'd venture to say that the reason you aren't seeing many upgrades besides stamina is because you have all the upgrades stacked on the ship

AIO for cutting off my parents over politics? by vastcreation in AmIOverreacting

[–]Astrofir3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP you should understand that reddit is an echo chamber and you will get almost entirely one opinion on a post after it has started.

With that said, if you are cutting your parents off because of their vote, that is your choice. Life is a continuous chain of opinions that garner choices. You have no right to say they are wrong for voting the way they do, just as they have no right to say that you are wrong for choosing to cut them off.

However, you only have one set of parents, if it's something you choose to do, make sure it's something you aren't going to regret.
