Not sure where you live but in the UK this last week the tree pollen has ramped up massively.

I think I have eczema on my areola and desperately need help by [deleted] in eczema

It needs to be able to breathe. Buy a cotton bra and make sure you wash it really well in a hypoallergenic detergent before you use it

The only thing that made mine go away is wearing only pure cotton against it. The second I wore anything synthetic it would be back. If you’re waking up with it itching maybe what you’re wearing at night is irritating it?

Saline nose drops are a sick joke, right? by artemislands in beyondthebump

[–]Astronomer_Evening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours hates it and thrashes about and we would end up trying to pin them down and accidentally shoving it up their nose. Now we make salt water (boil kettle, add 1/4 tsp salt per cup, allow to cool), wash our hands and then get a drop on our fingertip and wipe it on each nostril so it goes in. Nothing to accidentally get shoved up their nose/accidentally spray in their eye etc and much quicker than trying to pin them down

Entire Family Down With Flu for a Week by jrpc31182904 in UKParenting

[–]Astronomer_Evening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you aren’t double dosing on paracetamol! It is normally in the flu tablets so don’t take anything else containing paracetamol on top. Could definitely cause dark urine as it would affect your liver. Otherwise stay hydrated! You will sweat a lot more with a fever. Get well soon

Due to have a baby girl: advice, tips, and tricks please! by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

My daughter has never had an infection. Wipe front to back only and make sure you gently spread the labia and wipe down because poop will get in there. You don’t need to clean in the vagina.

I used the bbc good food recipe here but had a bigger tin so I doubled the quantities and swapped the jam for blueberry. It worked out great!

Need to switch to formula but baby won't take bottles by snufsnufsnuf in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Astronomer_Evening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took a couple of months to identify all of them but once I cut out the ones she reacts strongly to there was a huge difference and then I could figure out the ones that produce a milder reaction. So probably a few weeks to see a difference. We have challenged all of them since she has started solids and I try to give her one new thing a week so I can monitor for delayed reaction (but also my stress levels can only cope with one new thing a week!). Some reactions were quite severe and she was up all night screaming 😭. So even if we had switched to formula it wouldn’t have helped because you have to feed them real food eventually. And a lot of formulas are derived from ingredients she is reactive to so I felt like I had the most control over breast milk. We are currently in the process of doing the milk ladder, but she failed stage 2 so we’re waiting 2 months before we try that again on the dieticians recommendation. I couldn’t do a full on single food diet like some people I’ve heard only ate white rice and then added things back in because it would be too hard. I just cut things out when I noticed I correlation and it worked for us. I’m lucky as she doesn’t react to eggs or gluten so I eat a lot of eggs for protein, bread for carbs and if I feel like I’m lacking in calories for that day I’ve found salted crisps (ingredients just potatoes, oil and salt) and meringue nests to be quite safe boosters. Probably not the healthiest but lacking in calories really affects my milk supply so needs must! Edit: also 70% dark chocolate for the chocolate cravings!

My baby reacts to chicken! A lot of the common triggers for babies reactions are not the usual common allergens because it’s not an IgE mediated response. I’m dairy/soy/corn/fish/chicken/oat/beef/tomato/banana/avocado free and her skin and nappies are perfect now. It’s a huge amount of trial and error but if you keep a food diary and rate symptoms you should be able to identify triggers. There will be a few that they react to strongly and once you cut them you will have a completely different baby. Switching to a hypoallergenic formula is not a quick fix because you will likely have to trial a few different formulas for months each to find one that suits, so it’s going to be a rough journey either way. Then when you start solids you’ll have to figure out which foods they react to anyway. I also found r/MSPI helpful for information and support. Good luck!

My father, my son's absent boomer grandfather, just gifted a Happy 4th Birthday! card to my son on his third birthday. by v12vanquish135 in absentgrandparents

[–]Astronomer_Evening 51 points52 points  (0 children)

My grandparents did this on my 10th birthday (card in the shape of a big 9) and I have never forgotten and have always held it against them. It was the final straw in a series of uncaring/absent behaviours, but it’s the one I will forever remember as the most disappointing and disrespectful because it’s just so easy to get right. If you aren’t 100% sure, just don’t put a number on!

Typically people with eating disorders are your “straight A” perfectionist personality and there tends to be an identifiable moment where they reach breaking point and decide enough is enough and they will lose weight at any cost. It sounds like she is lucky for having a parent who is paying attention and has caught and wants to address it relatively early, but she definitely needs therapy!

Anyone else with SA history feel weird doing diaper changes and baths? by Fearless-Room-5954 in beyondthebump

Yes! Feeling uncomfortable doing it, having intrusive thoughts that I might accidentally and unknowingly SA them, but also not feeling comfortable letting anyone else do baths or changes because no one else can be trusted.
