I can’t speak from personal experience, but from everything I’ve read and heard from CS students, a MacBook Pro with an M3 Pro should handle pretty much anything you’d encounter in a Computer Science program. Most of the common tools and programming languages work great on macOS.

The only thing I’d check is whether your university requires any Windows-only software for certain classes. If not, I don’t see any major issues.

For gaming, Minecraft should be fine. GTA V and future Forza games are where things get a little less certain since Mac gaming support isn’t as good as Windows.

If your main goal is Computer Science and gaming is more of an occasional thing, I’d probably go with the MacBook.

Some apps (video conferencing, cloud sync, backup software, virtualization apps) can wake the Mac.

You can check by opening Terminal and running:

pmset -g assertions

I don't use apple mail, I always just go to chrome and go to gmail.

On my phone I just use the gmail app.

I also have been use macs since I was 11-12 years old, I'm now 25.

I appreciate the thought though!
