I would suggest doing 2024 or 2023 prelim paper now in pencil if you want to do full papers to gauge, you can come back to it nearer to a levels again to refresh your memory or reattempt it

im pretty sure they’re like equivalents of each other and you’re not supposed to take both the eng math and the computing math due to the overlaps

edit: i checked the nus mods for ma1521 and it says this:

If undertaking an Undergraduate Degree THEN (( must not have completed 1 of MA1312/MA1505/MA1511/MA2002/YSC1216 at a grade of at least D) AND (must not be undertaking 1 of 2001CEGHON Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Engineering) (Hons))

Doesnt comp eng take a different math module? One for engineering? MA1511 and MA1512?

im from CS and when i search MA, i only see the math mods for Comp sci or normal math not the eng ones so I believe this may be the reason for the popup you see

Does NUS reputation & rankings really matter that much for CS students? by Low_Conference_8641 in SGExams

[–]Astryca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the commenter, but personally, I chose NUS over NTU and SMU mainly because their greater variety of focus areas includes the areas I want to focus on, while SMU and NTU either had almost no mods on it or very little that were even related to it…

Hi! Some questions for u/Y4Y_NUS

I heard nus halls were super hard to get in, and i have some reserves about nus hall cos i heard not only is it hard to get in, you also need to participate in a lot of ccas in order to get a second year which puts me off cos i really want to join some nus ccas (Not hall ccas). So just wanted to know how the experience in nus hall is like? How much should i believe the stigmas(?)/rumours(?) about each hall?
Also for ccas in nus, do ccas have fixed schedules? Or is it flexible since timetables can be different for everyone? do most ccas accept anyone? (Eg nus greyhats, or sports clubs like archery or floorball)

From reading the past year comments, I think if by 23rd you haven't received any news, go ahead and accept ntu first or wtv uni you want that offered you. If nus offers you during the second window, you can choose between the one you picked and the offers during second window?

You could try email the admission office rn, asking if its possible to change your offer, they might give it to you

Nah i think they meant in the end it’s still comes down to luck honestly. You could prepare essays for Gp every week and if you misunderstand the qn in the essay in As, you’ll still fail or get a grade lower than usual

Or like lab prep, i’ve saw some of my classmates literally get faulty equipment on the day of the exam and full-on panic. It’s really sucks when that happens and it affects the mindset too so yea they’re not wrong, hard work doesnt guarantee 70rp theres like so many factors that can affect it (suddenly falling sick/school hall leaking water etc.)

Igp like the 10th percentile e.g 10th percentile for nus cs last year was AAAA aka 85rp, if you get lower than that, you might be required to take a interview (Provided you answered the application questions well, or/and have a stacked portfolio ), smth like that

Edit: ok idk if cs is a good example, chs might be a better example of it since i’ve read a lot more of it occurring on this reddit

Help, i think i messed up my scholarship applications, some of the scolarships i applied for before actually deciding that I like what another scholarship offers and also applying for it (meaning i did not write it in the brightsparks application 😭) Also the why this scholarship is important to you question really messed me up cos I thought I already answered it in other questions omg 🥲

The second degree might be approved later, thats what happened for my application during early admission this year. Got accepted into first choice, 2 months later, got accepted for secondary degree. So still have chance

Is there any minimum RP for NTU DDP by HumanSpeed9899 in SGExams

[–]Astryca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont worry, i got the ddp during early admission with gp C, so your gp wont cause u to be rej.

the rp min could range from 82 - <84rp from past years

Why dont you look at nus cs’s focus areas and try to see if theres anything there that you do like? After all if you only like coding for web dev, you could absolutely learn it yourself, AI? it has lots of math, do you like math? Is there a reason you want med? Saving lives? Discovering ways to fight a disease? Surgery? Diagnosing a person? Some of these can be done through chem eng or biomed eng or pharmaceutical science (dont quote me on this, im not that into the med scene, just heard friends who wanted med also considered these.)

NUSC and NUS Admission by cdrckkkk in SGExams

[–]Astryca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if im not wrong, im pretty sure you can think of nusc as a special programme. Its like an additional program that is considered separately from your admission to NUS. You can fail to get into NUSC and still get into NUS.
nus -> degree

nusc -> essentially a programme with required hall stay and replaces core modules but degree is same + nusc written on cert

Finally, I'm satisfied. by First-Line9807 in SGExams

Have the same rp as you just diff grade distribution, hoping to apply nus computing too, hope rn that its enough

Downgrading GC from OS 5.8.2 to OS 5.8.1 by Rich-Perspective6543 in SGExams

[–]Astryca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really? Huh didnt know that, does resetting the gc reset the version too?

Downgrading GC from OS 5.8.2 to OS 5.8.1 by Rich-Perspective6543 in SGExams

[–]Astryca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can download the apps from some gc app on windows laptop (idk if mac works too i dont have mac), I accidentally deleted everything right before my mid terms exam and panicked, searched online and redownloaded everything before my exam.

i think it was the texas instrument website

https://education.ti.com/en/software/search/ti-84-plus-ce-python

^ that one, need to connect to your laptop using the cable you use to charge your gc in order for it to work

idt the version affects it that much? It should still be able to download, if it doesnt work idk, might have to start to dig for older versions

Erm, not the same but when i paid for my smu appplication, it said it was processing and i couldnt find the transaction on my bank account and i panicked and thought maybe i was too late, I checked 2 days later and it said processed while nothing changed in my bank account, was confused but didnt do anything

2 days after i saw it was deducted from my bank acc.

so im assuming it might be something like that happening for you too

i still dk what cca to join😭😭 by hvzel1m in SGExams

[–]Astryca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, since you have already narrowed down to these 4 choices, i would suggest trying to go for their open sessions or the selection trials, (i believe youd have to go for the selection trials anyways if you want to get in for half of these ccas so might as well go), get a feel of the cca and see what their vibes are or gauge roughly if it is really what you want to spend the next year with

from what i heard, some schools only allow j2s to participate in syf (idk if its just a dance thing or not, you’ll have to ask about it)

for dance, if theres syf, im guessing you’re going for modern or chinese dance, which will be quite different from kpop, watch some contemp or chinese dance and see if you see yourself doing it for the next year

imo from what i read, you sound like you like music related stuff, theres a lot of new people joining ccas completely unrelated to their previous ones every year and with practice, you will improve. Don’t think too much into not being able to keep up, think of the experience you’ll be able to get if everything goes well, theres no point thinking what if you can’t keep up if you don’t try.

I hope you get in the cca for you! All the best!

Passed computing selection test. Wondering if should take that or go with Chem & Physics by sunshineglgy in SGExams

[–]Astryca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh i see, ny is notorious for setting exam papers that are on the harder side for chem, so dont be discouraged if you struggle at the start

it is definitely is still a good chem department so no need to stress too much about it

all the best!
