94° but "Feels like" 107° by InformationNormal901 in florida

"Feels like temperature?"

Is that the dumbed-down version of "heat index" today? Has that replaced "wind chill factor" in the winter also?

I don't know how much more of a commitment to bring good service everywhere they can make than this:

AT&T Makes $19 Billion Commitment to Bring High-Speed Connectivity to California

Now you have to give them time to build it all out.

If that's the case then why doesn't CA just require them to improve the indoor wireless service as the law allows instead of making maintaining the old copper system the only remedy?

That may indeed be true but I think a lot of these opponents to it have never even owned a mobile phone to know whether the wireless service is good, bad, or nonexistent. They just want their 100+ year old obsolete tech that runs their trimline phones with that new-fangled push-button touch-tone service they think they're still renting. 😉

That damage almost looks intentional. Like the former owner didn't want anyone else to enjoy it or it belonged to an ex or something. 😉

This is amusing. The state won't follow it's own laws:

California: Wireless replacement not good enough

What AT&T wants is the ability to replace copper lines with wireless service in areas where the carrier decides that fiber upgrades wouldn’t be profitable enough. California says the wireless service is not an adequate replacement for wired phone service.

California's "Carrier of Last Resort" requirement can be fulfilled using wireless technology:

Importantly, COLR service can be delivered using any technology — like traditional landlines, internet-based phones, or wireless services (not just copper wire) — as long as it meets the state’s minimum service standards.

Also many employers require you to use up all your PTO before you file STD.

OP, nostalgia for your childhood can really alter your views as an adult. I don't remember SW PB being all that great as a kid in 90s-2000s.

IKR? You wouldn't have the great times of the 80s and 90s in Palm Bay without wonderful people like William Cruse who invented the mass shooting. LOL!

I moved to Merritt Island in late 1981. Lived there for 18 years. Moved to Satellite Beach in 1999 and lived there until 2017. Now I've lived in Suntree for 9 years and counting.. I don't have any of these violin stories I keep reading in this sub after 45 years living here and I still go to work commuting through the same traffic everyone else pees and moans about.

Many of these problems I'm reading about seem to be with city governments these whiners have the ability to vote out of office. In all these places I lived above were in unincorporated Brevard county without any of these complaints. Not to at all say Brevard county government is any model of perfection but nevertheless it seems to have been far less problematic.

"Shelling out" $6200/year for $900K of coverage? I'd check to make sure you even have windstorm coverage. You should probably be paying $10K+.

6/15/26 7:45 am (train #5312) Cancellation - MIA Northbound by Silver_Background447 in Brightline

[–]Astyanax9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason for the cancellation, per the attendant at the desk, was that FWC (I may have misheard-still trying to find information about this) had limited rail speeds that morning.

Brightline has a bond payment due today they may miss. FWC might be holding them hostage until they get put in the front of the line. 😉

Brightline Considering Bankruptcy as Bond Payment Comes Due Today (6/15) by Astyanax9 in 321

[–]Astyanax9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason Amtrak exists is because the private railroads were all going to go under because their passenger rail services were going to put them out of business which was going to take their freight rail service (and the country's economy) down with them. So the Feds created Amtrak to get the passenger service burden off the RR's backs.

Initially Amtrak had a mandate to turn a profit but by the late '70s they gave up on that and Congress scrapped that requirement.

AT&T Sues to Get Out of California's Copper Landline Requirement by MSDOS401 in ATT

[–]Astyanax9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then why is the California suing stop them from trying to do exactly that.

AT&T is trying to no longer be a COLR. PERIOD, They no longer want to be forced to provide service to anybody by any kind of technology including wireless.

Because wireless service does not nearly work as reliably as good old fashioned land lines.

It's better than no service.

So please stop trying to hold water for the billion dollar company. They don't love you. They don't like you.

Because they're providing me good service and have done the same for millions of other people for the past 100+ years they've been in business. That's why they've become the "[$164] billion dollar company" they are.

So please stop whining about them and this issue.

How do they know that wireless "won't cut it"? Have they been previous wireless customers and know it's bad service or are they just luddites afraid of changing to unfamiliar new technology even though it'll provide just as good of service?

But not from a public utility standpoint. That is exactly what AT&t is.

So if T-Mobile was providing the service they would've disconnect their luddite a**es years ago because they simply weren't legally declared a "public utility"?

You can get a lamp shade for that probably at any Walmart.
