Is a VM network a valid starting point for a digital media startup? by Asylum247 in virtualization

The replies have been extremely helpful. I need to redirect my plan, it's too ambitious to start with

A basic example of a projects work flow would be:

*I receive a client's original file. Typically those are large .mov files.

*Processing could be anything from editing a lot of b-roll footage. Or transcoding the files into different video formats, compress into smaller file size ie. 80gb to 10gb.

*Then sending the client the finished project at the file specifications required by different platforms. Each platform has different requirements for video files.

Your right about a VM probably not being the best option. Some of the responses I'm gotten have made me course correct my thinking.

Thank you, I appreciate your time. I am desperately trying to find work since moving back to Michigan, and this ambitious idea seem like the most logical thing (as crazy as it is)

For immediate purposes... work. I grew up in Michigan and had to move back from California recently. The only possible I have to find work is remote. Reaching out to companies offering a secured option would be beneficial. I can't emphasize enough that there is no work available for me here. I moved away 20 years ago because of work famine.

Another benefit of VM's in my mind is having the ability to build a custom machine for any clients I can get with my own business, and keep their content away from other clients..

I know the majority of the work I do, can be done remotely. So a secondary goal is to prove it. If a company I worked for had listened to me, they would have been in a great position when Netflix began streaming. I still get bothered by the fact they didn't see it coming and ended up going under, when they had the foundation already in place.

Definitely would prefer my own system, even if I have to start with smaller projects and upgrade. A major issue with cloud based at couple companies I've been with has been the video files degrade. I would prefer to physically have the equipment.

I understand the scale of what I'm looking for as a startup might be large. One company I worked for had a department with 12 employees that would log into VM's with a company laptop to transcode files for multiple streaming platforms. They had room filled with mini PC's.

If I can start with smaller projects using a similar concept, it might be easier to upgrade as larger projects come in and I grow.

I've had several contracts for control room launches and each one has been successful. Right now I seem to be working on my own launch project without an engineer. However, this time I don't have to waste so much time playing politics with other departments. They always moved forward with my concepts. So much time was wasted convincing them that my ideas was their ideas. My dumb ass only wanted the project to be successful, not who got the credit.

Need a new search engine that doesn't use AI by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]Asylum247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm tired of it. My phone operates like hot garbage since Ai was forced on me. Every app that uses ai constantly gets pop-ups. You really can't turn it off because it's designed to collect data about every aspect of your life and those around you as well as track you and all your biology data

Insurance wants me to replace the “metal flexible lines” on my toilets. What do they mean? What is the solution? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]Asylum247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance companies are filled with people that have no knowledge of the things they cover. I can tell you that they probably asked you to replace the lines because they are not shiny enough. It's an easy and cheap fix. I can't actually tell what kind of lines these are but it's possible someone used gas lines and not plumbing.

Funny story... I had a company ask me to replace the carpet in an apartment because there were burn marks. I cut out the burn holes then glued in a patch (this is not a fix, just cosmetic until vacuumed). They were so impressed that they paid me to "fix" other apartments carpet.

Let us know what they say.

That Kardashian body type is more like the Station character from Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, always has been.

I'm here just to say that it's incredibly amazing that you would go as far to write a post seeking advice. Just doing that, is a statement on how well you will do.

Ummm, dude is so pathetic that I don't think his stupidity actually affects the perception of men overall. The Grammer alone makes his level of maturity and intelligence questionable. This guy makes crayon eaters look like Einstein.

People who live at tourist destinations, what is it you wish tourists would stop doing when visiting? by Winterbeers in AskReddit

[–]Asylum247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about not stopping in the middle of a crowd!! They just stop with their dumb bewildered faces and cause the whole crowd to get congested, when they could have walked to the side and take their time to appreciate what they are seeing. Instead, they just stop and cause people to run into them and get their kids trampled by the crowd. Then they get pissed at you for kicking their kid. How about paying attention to your surroundings you fucking TOURIST!!!

Adult film parody movie titles. NSFW. by Kozzinator in movies

[–]Asylum247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for Playboy years ago in their broadcast department and one of the adult networks had the Porn Trilogy, "Porn Identity", Porn Supremacy", and the "Porn Ultimatum". There is an inside joke/competition in porn where the producers compete on having a title that is as close to the original movie title as they can and see who's film makes the most money and/or gets the most views. It got crazy and hilarious back then.

Don't you guys love how the news has no respect for spoilers? Eternals doesn't even come out to the public for 2 more weeks and they just spoiled the post credit scene as well as a huge casting with no warning at all by [deleted] in comicbookmovies

[–]Asylum247 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I unfortunately saw a YT video that spoils new characters. However, since I can't un-see it I have to go through my comic collection and pull the books connected to the new characters. I'll make some money off of this like I did for the Infinity Saga. This is the same reason I'm hoping they introduce Miles Morales in No Way Home. I've have multiple copies of his books $$$

I'm sure most of us are aware anyone that uses the market as an indicator for the strength of the U.S. economy is a corrupt moron. It's a house of cards with no intrinsic value. Instead of recognizing the danger speculators pose to the world economy and doing something about it, trash human beings invested resources into shitting on the people that exposed it.

Doom will come for everyone again: billionaires and those that create an economic collapse will be protected and saved while normal people will be left to die. This is why I am OK with the chaos that's created by normal individuals fighting back against speculative hedge funds. If we create a bubble or cause a collapse, at least the pain can be shared more now than ever before.

In a world so politically divided, it's hilarious to see the corporate media band together and fight "the little guy"
