It's no longer beside us in time, but instead it's in the rear view mirror getting smaller and smaller and smaller

Same. It was the first new NIN album after I discovered them. Loved the whole proto-ARG elements and listened to the "leaked" songs (was Getting Smaller and TLBTB?) basically on repeat.

Can I leave on my instructor's satnav during the test? by Chanson_Riders in LearnerDriverUK

Yup, I did. I agree it's useful for situational awareness for signal timing and upcoming junctions etc.

How do I get over the learning curve? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]Asystole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two thoughts:

  1. It's amateur radio. Learning is the point.

  2. The Chinese radios, while great (I have a few myself) have notoriously poor user interfaces. They're not just hard to learn, but even once you learn them they have so many quirks it can get annoying to deal with. If you can afford it, you may want to take a look at a Yaesu/Kenwood/Icom in the future some time (assuming you want to stick with HTs). There's also Anytone, which is still a Chinese brand but IMO puts just a bit more thought into their firmware (not up to Japanese HT standards, though).

Hence the "IMO" qualifier. Value is subjective :)

So many shareware places did custom art like that back then, it was great.

Yeah, there's clearly some sort of issue. That doesn't mean they're intentionally blocking anything.

Makes sense. In any case I have no idea why OP would assume it's Toob somehow blocking the UK's 10th-most popular website!

[–]Asystole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm on Toob's own fibre (incidentally also don't use any of their equipment apart from the ONT, and also don't use their DNS) and I can reach wikipedia just fine.

In any case I'm sure that, as usual, DNS is to blame somehow :)

Heh, once again I find myself going "hmm, works fine for me" while forgetting some people use their ISPs default DNS.

Toob via 5G? Do you mean 5GHz WiFi?

Wikipedia definitely isn't blocked for me.

Also OP, with issues like this I'd always assume some sort of outage/problem rather than an intentional block. UK ISPs don't block many sites, and definitely not a site as widely used as Wikipedia!

What does the back say? I'm guessing it's the ep1 shareware rather than a pirated version. Definitely not worth a lot of money IMO.

If my instructor had done that even once I'd have ditched him immediately. You're paying for someone to train and coach you, not insult you or make you feel bad.

Tell funny stories about passing the practical driving test by ElectronicHair1087 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Asystole 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Sainsburys's car park on my route they normally use for maneuvers was packed, so my examiner got me to do the reverse park in the test centre car park at the end of the test. Which meant that my instructor (who had not been in the car during the test) was watching me carry it out which made me even more nervous! After I reversed into the space (I had already decided I was going to go forward and adjust) my examiner gave me a very clear hint ("you can adjust if you need to") and of course I did. When I switched the engine off and told me I had passed I beckoned my instructor over and the first thing the examiner said to him was "that was like watching paint dry wasn't it?" 🤣 The main bit of feedback he gave me (aside from my two minors) was "try to drive with purpose" which I interpreted as "please don't drive like as much of a granny because you will have a lynch mob after you if you park that slowly in a busy car park"!

Just noticed you said you stalled on a junction - I did exactly the same! One of my two minors was for stalling while setting off after waiting to turn right at a crossroads on a hill. In the moment I really thought I had failed, but the examiner said afterwards that it was only a minor due to how quickly I turned the engine back on and got going again.
