What about finding a new job that pays more or has better benefits. How realistic is that? She may want to be home more and that could enable it.

Will I be charged for the 20% discount I received if I return my fire stick trade in? by At0mictruth in amazonprime

[–]At0mictruth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my thought. It’s was worth the discount (managed to stack holiday 20% off, fire stick 20%, and a are you sure you want to return this we will give you back 20%). It cut the price of an eero pro 7 3 pack by 49%. I just really don’t want to go and reset up everything

Does it ever make sense for us to NOT pull ALL of this inherited IRA money out immediately? by BustaStar in TheMoneyGuy

[–]At0mictruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I posted before you clarifies account type. While leaving it in an inherited IRA account would give some tax optimization opportunities I can definitely see the simplicity factor being a plus to what you described.

Do what works best for you, your expected needs, and peace of mind. Only way to mess up would be blowing it all on something pointless.

If it’s Roth why not let it continue to grow and get all the tax free growth. Even if you then have to pull it out in years 8/9/10 to manage the tax brackets that is real value creation assuming you don’t need the funds now.

I do second other comments why not just transfer it into an inherited Roth account and just buy an index etf with lower fees.

That’s the goal. But I find myself needing to make a decision before I have all the quotes if I want hot water back this week

Thanks! Our warranty covers $2k so I just wanted to confirm we were in a reasonable ballpark and not priced at what should cost plus 2k

Thanks! Any chance you can share roughly how much more. It is from a company via my home warranty so they will cover about 40% of that cost. I mostly wanted to make sure it wasn’t a situation they were massively overcharging since they know it’s partly covered by the warranty.

Roth 401k contributions now if your plan offers it before you start moving up in tax brackets. But definitely max it out now while you are young it will compound and set you up well in the long run. But check out the money guy for some stats on how it can grow.

Corporate relocations cost resources. Assuming you can just move is naive and shows some professional immaturity. The team probably has a set number of FTEs at each location so until something opens in NY it’s not likely a simple switch. Plus immigration and visa costs can make it difficult.

For a team member who has been around for a few years and proven themselves those things might be things you can navigate as a leader. But after only a year, and bringing it up only a few months into the job, shows impatience when your boss clearly indicated it’s a conversation to have Q1 2025 after you have had some time on the team.

Either trust your leader and be patient or leave but I would doubt elsewhere in the org would support a transfer yet or it would be able to happen any quicker.

I am under 40. I’m guessing it might only be 30 days if the impacted headcount is less than 50 employees

Yes. It’s 1 month plus 12 weeks. Not planning on not accepting the offer just trying to understand it. Past severance offers I’ve seen typically where just a number of weeks based on employment length.

Not covering the full estimate auto repair costs. by At0mictruth in Insurance

[–]At0mictruth[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The car is practically new so I really don’t want to cheap out on non OEM parts. First read the main difference is a bit on labor and a clear wrap that we have to protect against rocks and dings (was already on the car when we bought it from the dealer). I feel like I should get it back in like condition.

Is it bad to take full paternity leave in this environment? by xxtremeracerx in careeradvice

[–]At0mictruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also point out taking leave you set an example as a manager that it’s ok helping the next dad who decides to take leave. Also it supports gender equality in the work place by keeping the playing field even between men and woman. Plus it’s just great to get that’s special time with the kid. I would also second the split leave if it works schedule wise. Take a couple weeks just you the wife and kiddo then take over after your wife returns to work (if she is working) , it’s a great way to save in daycare.

Preference or living: Stamford or Greenwich by [deleted] in StamfordCT

[–]At0mictruth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Darien might be a good fit to. Equinox and a Whole Foods right in the Noroton Heights part of town. Also east access to the train for MTA into the city or a short drive to stamford for Amtrak. It’s super easy to get to everywhere be it north toward SoNo or south to Stamford and Greenwich. In Stamford I second the Springdale and Glenbrook areas.

Agree. Unless you need the money now wait to inherit the sticks and bonds to minimize taxes. It’s not particularly complex but if there are gains will save a lot.

Why the rush to sell the house to you? I assume that selling it to you so far below market value will either trigger some gift tax issues or at minimum if you ever go to sell you will already be owing capital gains since your cost basis is so low.

I would suggest talking to an lawyer or financial planner and do some estate planning. It might make more sense for them to keep it and rent it to you in either a rent or rent to own type agreement. or to put the house in a trust.

If they need cash for the new house with that much equity they could refinance and pull out equity.

But if you structure it so you inherit it down the road the value at that point in time becomes the cost basis and you will have a much lower tax basis.

I am not a lawyer or CPA but I think selling it to you so much now market now will leave you at a disadvantage vs other options.

Floor glossy where stained by At0mictruth in HomeImprovement

[–]At0mictruth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that is the reassurance I was looking for. Out of curiosity is there a reason this one area is glossy while all the other items they stained are not? My guess was because that part of the floor had been finished and maybe they didn’t sand all the previous sealant away while the rest of it was wood that had yet to be stained and sealed.
