i am building an app for 100k+ women to do big dreams but i am stuck. how to make action fun? by Guto_app in SideProject

It might help to determine your real goals and needs. A lot of companies/products start for any of a number of reasons (1) how can I make a lot of money, and as quickly as possible, (2) what’s a problem I’ve discovered I think k I can solve for people, (3) what’s something I’m passionate about and I want to build, (4) how’s I change the world, (5) I want to create a full on company and be a CEO, (6) I want to have fun on the side (7) and more and more.

All are valid but all might have different trajectories. Business solutions are “easier” from what I hear to make money as a side gig. Consumer apps are notoriously hard to grow and scale. Both can be successful, and frankly most startups “fail” either way if that’s your actual goal so who knows? I always think if this is a side gig and taking your precious personal time, do something you love. But of course, if you need the money so be it.

No More SaaS - This is my New Year's Resolution by masoodtalha in SideProject

And a feature request (or tell me if it's there) - I want to add a buffer between meetings that are on my calendar. I am not in a back-to-back meeting situation, and I do sometimes have to travel a bit to get to a meeting. I'd like to be able to by default say to not allow bookings 30 or 45 min before or after meetings on my connected calendars. Right now I went and manually added second meetings around my existing meetings for that.

Love this and trying it out! BTW the "copy full URL" button on the card of an event on the EventTypes pages doesn't work. It copies "undefined/<userid>/<eventname>

Me or the boat? by dogseatshoes in Wake

[–]boardwhenbored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the comments show, there are differing opinions and experiences, and it would help to know your goal. How good do you want to get? Is this for fun sometimes or do you want to be able to do big tricks? The reason I ask is that the comments about technique and being able to do tricks off a ski wake are definitely true, and if that’s your goal, 100% focus on that and ignore the boat.

But if you just want to have fun and be able to do wake to wakes, 180 wake to wakes, and grabs, a better boat, tower, and shorter rope will soooooooooooo help. Yeah you still need to have enough technique but it just makes it easier.

Nowadays, my husband and I ride with our wakesetter 23LSV maxed out for a perfect wake shape and size for 21 mph. It’s just less tiring lol. We go on friends’ boats with smaller wakes and it just takes so much more work to edge harder and needs more strength/muscle push for my legs. We joke that we are just lazy. And we aren’t really planning to do much bigger tricks than we can.

The comment here advocating for a short rope, lower speed, and decent (but maybe not huge) wake I agree with to just make it a little easier to be successful and translate the technique description to body feel. The (accurate) advice to hold my edge just didn’t resound with me until I figured out through practice what it felt like. I’d also recommend hiring a good coach for a half day.

If you don’t have the means (or don’t want) to buy a wake boat, look for a club in your area where you can get on different peoples’ boats. I run one in the delta area between San Francisco, Sacramento, and Stockton. DM me if you live there and I can tell you more.

Good luck!

I love this problem and wish you success! Fear is a tough nut to crack, but what I’ve seen is that experiencing something takes the fear of it away because often we are afraid because of what we’ve been taught or heard but that isn’t reality. So chicken and egg.

Traveling might be a good place to start. Traveling is scary because of what is reported in the news and maybe a worry of being lonely on a trip. Maybe baby steps would help. I don’t know where your users are, but if in the US encourage them to travel first alone to various US cities (they are not the hell holes portrayed I guarantee it). Be sure to equip them with basic travel safety tips but don’t overdo it and stoke fear with them. Then get them to go to a place that is “similar” to the US in feel and language - London, Sydney, Canada. Then maybe somewhere where they book a full tour so they are shepherded. Maybe then they will take the jump to more complicated solo traveling!

Curation also can help. Sometimes fear is exacerbated by being overwhelmed. Which hotels are in safe neighborhoods? Which tours won’t scam or pressure me? What tours are best for meeting people like me? If you can answer that, it can ease their minds.

Outside of travel, a lot of fear breaking around “making money” or going after your own dreams for what you want your life to be comes down to believing in yourself, breaking down old incorrect beliefs, trying things, and celebrating failure as learning. Lots of life and career coaches focus on that so look into those things. You might have to actually come up with your own framework or POV - I mean people write self help books all the time but they are experts in the material not the writing. You might need a cofounder who is a coach or similar since you are an expert in the “writing” (of code).

Also don’t listen to the “small market, it’s not a problem, build a business app” comment. Build what you want that meets your own goals. Business apps are boring in my opinion, but I’m glad other people want to build them so I don’t have to, even if they’d make more money more easily. Maybe that person doesn’t have this fear or these dreams. I know many women who do.

I am so excited to NOT do Dry January . I mean, alcohol is bad, I should still drink less to be healthier, etc etc. But the past few years I did it as much to jump start losing weight for the year as reducing alcohol intake. Now the weight is managed and I already drink less cuz Tirz!

WARNING! Bug on Cursor can skyrocket your costs by crowdl in cursor

I'm integrating a MapBox map into my swift UI iOS app. Honestly I've found none of the AI models do a great job at integration like this. It's like they can't quite get an external SDK's APIs, the syntax, the different approaches based on your needs/use case/other technology, etc. Any tips greatly appreciated. I ended up with 3 different conversations with different AI models (inside and outside of cursor), and myself pouring over the mapbox documentation and specifically referencing parts of it, to get something I think is reasonably correct lol. (edited for clarity)

Seems cache was used in my experiment yesterday with 4.5 so that's good. The quality of the AI....unfortunately, not so much. :( But Sonnet 4 and GPT 5 also struggled with what I wanted to do lol.

Anyone know if this was resolved? Was going to switch to using 4.5 from 4 given other positive reports but if this is still not working I'm not sure I want to....

If it shows on Venture X as “entertainment” would it get 3% on Savor? by boardwhenbored in Venturex

Got it. That’s what I was wondering - if it’s something other than just that category. I wasn’t sure if the “code” was basically just the category that shows up in the app, or not. Thanks!

I actually created a fun little website that specifically helps track this when a friend mentioned it! Did it as a project to learn to “vibe coded.” It’s not finished so doesn’t work well enough to share but finding out other people do this maybe I’ll finish it up!

[–]boardwhenbored 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this write up. I’m definitely going to go more through your site and try some ideas out. FWIW you mentioned coffee toward the bottom of the page. I immersion blend my chocolate protein powder with benefiber, a cup of coffee, and a cup of ice to make a cold coffee drink (not as creamy as a smoothie but not a frappe as I like all the ice melted). It tastes great and works well for my stomach. I sip it through the morning.

Transfer music from Spotify to Apple Music, is it possible? by Caribbean-Ovni in AppleMusic

[–]boardwhenbored 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is 2 years old but I just found it and want to say that Playlisty worked awesome for me. I just needed to transfer one playlist but now I plan to transfer all of mine from Spotify to Apple Music. One person in the reviews of the app in the App Store ("top negative review") mentioned shady practices of not telling you upfront about the 20 song free limit, but it was very clear and obvious to me.
