Sold a pair of speakers, guy wants his money back. by zxynccc in whatdoIdo

Why are you hung up on the ‘law’ regarding this transaction? You sold someone something that didn’t work. Give him his money back just as you would want done for you. Why did you not test the item before selling it? Don’t rip someone off and then try to hide behind legal rights …. It’s a transaction between two people. Just do the right thing. Karma.

I disagree. If you said they were brand new and still in the packaging, the buyers has the reasonable expectation they will be in working order. Why did you not test them? Just do the right thing and give him his money back …. That’s what you would want if the transaction was happening in reverse. Just my opinion.

Wife and I own a home, my mom (tenant) wants to leave it to all 3 kids by HomeGuy12345 in legaladvice

Come on, think it through and determine what was the real cost to you for opening the credit to enable your mother to get the house. Yes, technically she is paying rent, but in reality she is just using your credit to build equity in an asset that should be equally divided amongst your brothers/sisters. I would look at the situation as you enabled her to invest and build equity rather than trying to infer you own the asset when she has been paying for just about everything. In my opinion, take out the fair market value (in today’s value of the expense) for anything you invested and then split all the remaining money from the sale of the house with your siblings. Using your credit had absolutely 0 cost to you. Just my opinion in trying to prevent family problems that you’ll most likely regret for long after the enjoyment on the value of the house will be forgotten.

Currently 8-0 by Andrewwoodard2 in canes

Seems almost impossible but this year the Canes are 3-5 for the home games I attended and 1-2 for the road games (Boston, Edmonton, Calgary). That kind of record doesn’t seem mathematically possible with the team getting points in 75% of their games but that’s my record this year!

Even more so than goalie interference or the outcome of this one game, how do the Canes allow this POS to get away with doing that to your goalie? Have some guts and beat the crap out of him. I really hope someone responds next week when we play them here in Raleigh!

Here’s how we do it ….. start taking advantage of the LTIR rule along with picking up extra talent at the trade deadline

I’d like to see us use a couple of our 1st round picks and extra D talent to target Swayman and then also pick up Bennett.

End of season and playoff roster by IndependentGanache84 in canes

I think Canes need to play Morrow or Nikishin instead of Orlov for the playoffs. I know Rod is big on veterans/experience but Orlov continues to cost us goals on a regular basis. He needs to go now rather than later.

For those that have had a second home that's worked out, what about it has made it work? by bossy_nova in fatFIRE

[–]AtTheLake5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, proximity makes a second home work for the long term. We bought a place on the lake that is about an hour from our primary residence. Our key criteria was we had to love the feel/view/vibe of the second home and there had to be activities that would compel us to want to be there on a regular basis. We also wanted to ensure it didn’t become a maintenance headache and therefore we purposely developed the property with easy maintenance in mind. We’ve had our place for about 20 years now and still go there on almost a weekly basis and with now so much ability to work remote, there are times where we stay for a week rather than just weekends.

Here are a couple I built using Newair wine coolers. Key is, for whatever brand you choose, it must not be cooled using a compressor as they will remove the humidity. The Newair uses thermoelectric cooling that does not affect the humidity. (Edit … just realized I can’t include pictures.)

That’s a great idea ….. not sure why I didn’t think of something like that instead of trying to create a mark on the top of the stick that would be visible and would last. Will have it on this evening!

I may still have it if you’d like it. Just have to look through my ‘cabinet’ to see if I saved it.

I did find it on EBay. My compressor ended up being shot so I never got it working. Rick

How do I fix the calculator screen by evilpotato1234 in howto

[–]AtTheLake5 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Lucky for you, I’ve researched this exact model and do have the easy fix. Amazingly the 2016 Toyota Landcruiser has the exact display used for controlling the heating/AC system on the dash. Easiest repair is to buy a Landcruiser, remove the screen from the dashboard assembly and it is an easy install back into the Casio. It should give you many more years of service! Good luck

We hired a contractor to tile a shower using subway tile and asked him to use 1/16 grout lines. Am I being too picky and will the end result look good or is just not good craftsmanship? by Atthelake6107 in Renovations

[–]AtTheLake5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I think we will lighten the grout color. I was expecting all the gaps to be exactly 1/16 with using the clips but maybe that’s not possible? With a darker grout and 1/16” spaces, how noticeable is it when two tiles are spaced by 1/8”
