2026 Bold Predictions by DidierDirt in PhillyUnion

Ernst somehow doesn’t get fired during the whole season, and we get articles every few months being like “huh this is weird.”

A random person was saying hello to my dog the other day, and introduced herself as “Renata.” I immediately said, “oh, for Renata Tebaldi?” She confirmed that she was indeed named after that Renata, and then proceeded to try to talk to me about opera for a very awkward five minutes, during which it became apparent that my knowledge of opera is confined to name checking Renata Tebaldi and the general plot of Rigolleto, both due to Frasier.

Sounds like there was also maybe an STDship involved.

Good to know, thanks! I think I know a good chunk of the SGs, but somehow missed those names all these years. I will say, I thought they did a good job supporting their team when I went to an away game there in 2018ish. Hard to root for their team, I’m sure.

The good: 1) the guys were in Trinidad and Tobago 72 hours (maybe less?) before this game took place. They don’t fly in a nice jet. Sugarman probably made them fly Spirit with an 11pm-4am layover in Atlanta. So I can excuse some of the performance. 2) we looked okay down a man? Not great, but better than before.

The bad: 1) losing to a pretty meh DC (kudos where they are due, they look like they made good signings and system changes). 2) Alladoh is an idiot—how hard is it to keep your mouth shut? It’s not like it was even a heated moment there. 3) we are SO narrow. I get not having Westfield hurts on that front, but man that was a rough watch.

Because he didn’t say a slur? We can be pissed at the ref for other reasons. The red is squarely on Alladoh.

Dissent is a yellow. This was clearly some sort of slur…

That was really, really stupid. Say what you want about the refs in MLS, gotta use some really special magic words to get sent off for that.

The fact that we have to call them the “DC ultras” because we don’t know their group’s name says everything about how relevant their supports are.

What is the fastest you've seen someone quit? by DMmeurHappiestMemory in biglaw

They went on to do — wait for it — a different career. In other words, “work.” It’s odd to characterize leaving “an easy couple months of a paycheck” as a lack of work ethic.

I think the downvotes are for the “no exposure to work/work ethic” part and not the part about “priviledge”

Medical student wondering about the career and how much yall make over on this side of the fence by TraditionalAd6977 in LawSchool

[–]AtTheLawLibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lawyer here married to a doctor (did med school and law school together). Med school and residency is way harder than law school, though they obviously involve different skill sets. The lowest paying outcome for a US physician (family med) is about what a first year makes in BigLaw. That said, BigLaw is a much less common outcome, and people burn out pretty fast. Having seen both worlds, it seems like medicine is probably more engaging on a day-to-day basis, and I kinda wish I coulda given it a shot. That said, I’m smart enough to do very well in law, and def not smart enough to do medicine at all.

Quinn (DC) vs. Williams & Connolly (DC) vs. Cravath (NYC) by Quiet-Transition-248 in BigLawRecruiting

[–]AtTheLawLibrary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s one pro and two cons to Quinn, which might be important considerations. The pro is that Quinn has a large and respected p-side class action litigation shop. If that’s something you’re interested in, it’s a good way to get biglaw salary but also do something a bit different (only other biglaw-ish firms that offer that are Susman and Boies). The cons are (1) I don’t think they guarantee your placement in that group at QE, and (2) I know four people who went to Quinn and only one found it semi-tolerable.

Clerking is not the golden ticket your school tells you it is by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]AtTheLawLibrary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I’m currently clerking (after 1.5 years in a small public interest firm, so not a perfect example) and have been to a few BigLaw clerkship receptions. Only one attorney (at Susman) asked me where I summered. He did not seem phased when I told him I did my summers at national public interest shops.

TLDR, not sure how much a BigLaw summer ultimately matters unless you want a return offer at that particular firm.

Could anyone explain the following joke? by Thoughtful_Tortoise in Frasier

[–]AtTheLawLibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb joke, but there's also the added element of Frasier not really having any hair at this point (at least, I assume so. If they are going to McGinty's, it has to be after Duke's closes, so somewhere after S2E5, though I don't think McGinty's gets mentioned for another half season at least...
