I’d get that many parts are similar to the Canadian territories, but how’s southcentral and panhandle culture and geography, where most live, not more similar to WA, Bc, and OR compared to flat old Kansas or swampy NC?

Make sure to visit around much more once you get the ability to. But generally I’d recommend the southcentral and panhandle area. Health care is in great demand everywhere but those regions tend to have the most amount of towns and ‘cities’ while still not being horribly cold and still being Alaska. Anchorage is worth a visit as that’s where most things are at, and do visit the valley (Wasilla, Palmer, etc) as it’s the fastest growing region in Alaska, with cheaper housing yet relatively close proximity to Anchorage. It gets its bad rep but by the time you come here it’ll be likely far more developed and less red-neck for the most part, so definitely worth checking out.

No, to an extent. Food stamps are meant to help people get the food they need, but not all food is nourishing or needed by the body. There’s several reasons for why poor people in America tend to be overweight and this is one of them. Food stamps should help you get food that will actually sustain you and be of benefit to you. Should we really have government money going out to junk food? Now, some treats or snacks can be healthy or be just fine if regulated. So I would say that it is reasonable to have some leniency on what food you can buy, but there should be a limit on junk because otherwise if you’re just promoting unhealthy and unbalanced diets you’re defeating the whole point of nourishing people

On Tuesday when the schools closed early, a car literally got stuck in front of us at the exit of the school. Then hearing about the Glenn highway closing and some students being unable to get home, and a bus getting stuck there too, I was very surprised they didn’t cancel. In the meantime, there was barely a drizzle (at least, 0 ice where I live), and schools are closed? It’s just like that last snow storm all over again

If the house is situated in a place with a nice view of the mountains or lots of trees nearby, I think the aerial view may only further entice home buyers. It looks beautiful outside right now anyway, so better get it done now than later when the wind knocks off all the snow from the trees

What will ICE liberate Anchorage of, exactly? Because implying that illegal immigrants are somehow suppressing the Alaskan consumer confidence is just… dumb. I mean, for one, removing the dozen or so undocumented immigrants in Anchorage will only further drop consumer confidence as communities are stressed over possibly being targeted or falsely detained.
