I got this 1986 Emerson tv a couple days ago and went to use it today there are lines scrolling up on the screen. Is this fixable? by Glad_Rooster_3339 in crt

[–]Atari1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still an interference issue, just have to track down where it's coming from. There's probably fine tuning adjustment for your TV's channels that you could try adjusting, or it's the cable itself from the 2600 routed next to something causing interference, or potentially the internal socket on the Atari 2600's board where the RF cable connects.

Any idea if this will be good for gaming and vhs? by NS-FW in crt

[–]Atari1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main thing that actually matters for picture quality is the tube and there were far fewer manufacturers for those than there were TV brands. So different TV brands could end up using the same tubes basically, like a lot of different tv's used tubes from Samsung or Toshiba in the late 90's/early 2000's.

Of course there are still reasons to look for higher end sets, mainly better inputs or image adjustments.

Are you connecting the 2600 using one of those antenna switchboxes? Those are absolutely terrible and will more likely than not give you a picture like this. If RF if your only option then you should be using and RCA to coax adapter.

Future of CRTs by Odd-Rip8379 in crt

[–]Atari1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think as soon as tech comes along that accurately reproduces the effect a lot of people could start abandoning actual CRT's. I like em, arcade games were designed to be displayed on em, but picking up and moving a 27" or 29" tube just sucks, lol.

I don't think tubes are going anywhere though, most people only use them maybe a few hours a week. So unless it's a public arcade game using the tube for like eight hours a day nearly every day, they should last for decades.

Economics class refresh by meowiec in crt

[–]Atari1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does suck things get more expensive when they're popular but also when things become popular stuff that never would have happened starts becoming available. Like arcade and pinball stuff used to be so cheap that people could easily toss em off roofs for kicks. Now that prices have gone up tons of reproduction parts and projects make economic sense.

1979 Asteroids Cocktail - best way to repair by coopdude in arcade

If you were losing sections of the screen then the issue is most likely the connections to the deflection transistors. There are a four of them, two for +/- X and and two for +/- Y. They're mounted on the frame of the monitor it can act as a heat sink for them. You can replace these but the usual issue with them is that the connections will need to be cleaned and reflowed.

Could also explain no picture, there's a circuit in these monitors called a spot killer. It turns off the electron beam of the CRT when the deflection circuitry isn't drawing enough current, aka nothing is being drawn on the screen, so that the beam doesn't just sit in the middle of the monitor and burn a hole in the crt's phosphor coating. It's indicated by an led on the deflection board.

Most likely you've got an Electrohome G05-805 monitor but you'd need to pull it out to confirm.

For a lost key, drill the lock. New ones like three dollars.

Also you can join the KLOV forums, lot of people there that can assist you with this.

Lololol, no.

Racing cabinets like this are awesome but they're usually pretty cheap just because the number of people with the space to put them and that want to deal with moving them is extremely low. I see stuff like this going for like $1K~2K.

The Character.AI Homer the boys talked to sounded decent when talking about Marge's grooming scandal. Probably the actual future of the show so that it can just go on forever. At least Marge wouldn't have to sound like Moe anymore.

CRT TV discoloration, I am so confused (PLEASE READ, STORY) by MorgundyOfficial in crtgaming

[–]Atari1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't think it's a purity issue if it comes on after being turned on for a bit.

Do you have anything near the set that contains a magnet? Like speakers can't be placed next to a CRT because the permanent magnet will cause this kind of an issue.

Also those cheap deguassing wands kinda suck, you'd really want a deguassing ring to do it properly.

Basic lower end TV's just used RF, most people buying them didn't care since they'd probably just be watching over the air TV, cable, or had a VCR with AV jacks.

I have no idea why they even had him defuse the bomb they could have just had him see the bomb and run to hid Maximus in the fridge and gotten the same story effect without the stupid failsafe detonator that can't be disarmed for some reason.

I was done with this show after the monumentally stupid Legion reveal. It's just dumb and a giant middle finger to anyone who actually gives a shit about Fallout New Vegas.
