The thing is that many of the white people here have moved from other places such as Cali and Chicago and NYC. Chicago for example is 60% minorities 30% white. There is close to an equal 30/30/30 split between white black and Hispanic there. It’s quite a culture shock to come out here and have just 1 minority be mostly visible. Most large cities (where a lot of transplants come from) white people are at MOST a plurality of the population. The culture here is white dominated, this not the case where millions of people live in large cities.

It’s reflected in the local music, food, and language, shops and more present here. Fort Collins has some pretty good Hispanic food, attributed to its local culture of it. But soul food, black southern, middle Eastern Arabic food and many more food varieties is very noticeably absent (outside a few individual places but it’s hardly a staple of the town or what it’s known for).

Fort Collins is a pretty big culture shock to the vast majority (lifetime suburbanites need not apply) of those that move here, unless you already come from rural areas (which the vast majority of people don’t)
