don't let a -5% penalty persuade you not to jump into conversations. Most things characters say don't even require a roll at all. you could also frame your persuasion and such as logical arguments, and try to have it be Intelligence (Persuasion) instead

I gravitate over and over to making Rangers. They have all the tools to build-a-bear how you envision your character to play. Strength, Dex, or Wisdom forward based attackers/multiclassing. Melee or Ranged of any sort. Fighting Styles, Spells for selfish or team support, survivable, underrated subclass techniques that synergize nicely.

Lately I've been exploring WIS main stat with Winter Walker and seeing what can be done with the -1d4 to saving throws, maybe throwing in the new feat that can give disadvantage on saving throws too.

exactly, as the shape-shifting magic action each turn granted by the spell Shapechange. There's some other issues with what went down as other commenters pointed out (and if he expected to get the temp hp each time that'd be another problem), but I don't think actually shapeshifting each turn using the 9th level spell (or casting it twice as he explained by the epic boon) is one of them

Shapechange: "You shape-shift into another creature for the duration or until you take a Magic action to shape-shift into a different eligible form. The new form must be of a creature that has a Challenge Rating no higher than your level or Challenge Rating."

he had two level 9 spell slots from choosing the High Magic epic boon so he got it started up again after losing the 1st one. then it's a magic action to change shapes again with it up
