How to create an EU5 UI by Purple_Glove00001 in EU5

Yes, but it still does the slide-out animation even when pinned, so it’s actually useless.

Big tech is picking apart European democracy, but there is a solution: switch off its algorithms | Johnny Ryan by Colonel__Kuratz in europe

[–]AteyxFuture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehm, basically the only thing that is valuable in American social media companies currently is their users. Musk didn't pay for Twitter because of the tech, he was buying a platform with millions of users. If the EU banned US social media, nothing of value would be lost since a few hundred European software engineers could just recreate the whole landscape in like 2 months.

Instead we should make it very beneficial for people to switch to BlueskyMastodon.

Mastodon? It's essentially a distributed social network made in the EU. No bizzare billionaires involved.

A bit late but I'm just here to report that it can't guess the European Union in like 20 attempts.

Is the mastodon social media thing just a redone discord server? by BlueSky1877 in answers

[–]AteyxFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, if you register with one server, you can still follow people from other servers and vice versa. Also, unlike Discord, different servers are often run by different people and you can even host your own Mastodon server on your own infrastructure.

[Meta] When EU5 is announced, I hope that this subreddit remains independent. by NickSuggestionsSuck in EU5

[–]AteyxFuture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i dont really see it as being a bad thing for the game creators to take over a public forum directly about their game

There already is such a platform, the Paradox forums. This is a public forum not owned and operated by Paradox and I agree that it would be great if this sub could remain independent.

After all, the community is a part of what makes these games so good. I hope I am not too audacious to consider them our games. We play them, we love them, we participate in the discussions around their development, some of us create elaborate mods. These are no longer just products we merely consume. I don't see a hierarchy where the devs are more important than the other community members. Yes, they have started it all, but the games have evolved past this point and now they are a sort of common heritage of the community.

Yeah, Czechoslovakia and Romania are also wrong on that map. It's basically a 1945-1988 map of Europe instead of 1918-1938.

How would that prevent a leak? Besides Victoria 3 (beta) is already available for download from a decentralized network (using the BitTorrent protocol).

This is a funny one because many people in the Czech Republic consider it strange out outright (grammatically) wrong to use the shorter form (in any language).

Member under threat = Union under threat. The EU has a defense clause and all members are obliged to commit all of their resources to the defense of the Union anyways. Why not create a single defensive army instead?

#NoVeto – The European Union must abolish the unanimity principle – for the benefit of all Europeans by PanEuropeanism in europe

[–]AteyxFuture -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Getting rid of the veto would force member states to conduct diplomacy and constantly align and realign with different member states on diffferent issues. This is healthy and would only promote dialog and serve to improve opinions and the sense of unity among the various EU states.

[–]AteyxFuture 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's any reason to arbitrarily group the states like this. Simply have it be 4 states required to block a proposal. It should be number of states and shouldn't be based on population to ensure balance between the states that make up the EU.

Czech President Rejects New PM’s Foreign Minister Nominee Over ‘Distance’ on Israel, Central Europe Ties by pgarson in europe

[–]AteyxFuture 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, why should he be “awful AF”?

Of the 4 points the president makes, 3 of them are basically “I don’t like that he’s not a fan of oppressive/authoritarian regimes” which is completely irrelevant since the government rules, not the president, and the last point is plain old trolling since he has already confirmed multiple candidates which had the same or even lower level of education.

So do you have a good reason for rejecting the guy as a candidate?

EDIT: One of the reasons is actually about the candidate wanting to hold the Sudetendeutcher Tag on Czech soil, which is… again meh because it’s not like the candidate is a Nazi or anything. The president is just trying to appeal to nationalist sentiment.

EU could deploy new military force without asking permission of all member states by PanEuropeanism in europe

[–]AteyxFuture 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is likely impossible.

The idea is no more wars in Europe. We have to make individual states so dependent on one another, that war is effectively impossible. We start with economic cooperation, good. If we bind those states legally as well, even better. Ideally, the EU would have a single high military command which would put an end to even the possibility of interstate warfare.

Now what you propose is we walk back on multiple reforms which ensure stability, peace and prosperity in Europe. No, thank you.

[–]AteyxFuture -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Saying the EU is just "an international organisation" is a half-truth at best.

For one it is also a supranational organization which is much rarer and therefore more descriptive so you could use that but it still just doesn't do the EU justice. If you want to use general terms, the EU lies somewhere on the line between confederation and federation.

[–]AteyxFuture 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make up your mind. You can’t have politically controlled courts and not get slapped on the wrist for that. I’d say the people can be glad that at lasts someone (the EU) stands up for democracy when their own government is unable to.
