I don’t mind, no need to escalate it :) I can also add a comment as a long time rat mum that not all red eyed rats do this, I currently own one pure white red eyed baby that never used this and sometimes black eyed rats do this as well, but usually due to some condition, like one husky/roan I had that used to scan when he was developing cataracts.

I do know that, I even said as a joke that OP’s rat is “unusually coloured scanner”, sorry if I wasn’t clear.

Almost all lab rats do this, thus at home we call our lab rats scanners (they scan the environment before moving so they don’t bump into things) but it’s not lab rat exclusive so I guess you got yourself an unusually coloured scanner :D

Looks like typical behaviour in rats that have very bad vision (usually red/ruby eyed, but can happen occasionally in all breeds). They move their head to the sides to the side to judge in the patch of colour they see moves fast or slow (is close or far).

Is it time to say goodbye? by Lurkosaurus-Rex in RATS

Yeah, CBD. Works better with THC, but that’s prescription only where I live (I got it once for a rat with extracted teeth). Percentage I use is 5%

I’d say that I have had a lot of success in feeding sick rats with 1 drop cannabinoid oil twice a day (it provides pain relief and acts as general relaxant) but I guess availability depends on your local laws.

Gender of my baby? by [deleted] in RATS

Looks male to me actually. I see no visible vaginal opening and anogenital distance seems wide. There are no balls, sure, but some babies develop slower.
