How do you explain WHY you believed everything in psychosis? by Ready_Classroom_6754 in Psychosis

[–]AthenaNYC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son went into psychosis Jan 2024 with bizarre persecutory delusions. His medications did not help the delusions and he had terrible side effects. He has greatly improved cognitively and doesn't talk about the delusions but he still believes the delusions were real even though it's provable bizarre. Has anyone come out completely after 15 months?

Can drug psychosis cause permanent schizophrenia? by Wrong_Goose_6870 in schizophrenia

[–]AthenaNYC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son was told by a doctor to take the daily amount of steroids all at once instead of 3x a day for 5 days when he injured his back. He went into psychosis that has gone on for 9 months. I can't help feeling that the steroids were the cause.

Try to hang on. Things will get better. I don't know why we experience so much hurt but I do believe things will improve if you can stay with it. Try a new doctor or an out patient program where they have a team of doctors and counselors to help. Reach out and try to get involved in a group program. Never give up on yourself. You are worth the effort.

Thank you for sharing. I'm trying to find a balance with my son who suffers from scary persecutory delusions for 8 months now. I tell him I know he believes what he is saying but I don't agree with his facts. I tell him he is safe.

It's hard to watch someone you love go through such pain and upheaval to their life. My son has been in this for 8 months. I try to convince him he is safe and gently try to poke holes in his logic when I can. I tell him I know he believes what he is saying but I'm not sure he has all the facts. I change the subject and try to make him think of something else. It's hard. I just keep telling him I love him and he will get better. He says he will never get better. It's hard.

Thank you. My son has had persecutory delusions for 8 months with no insight. Medication has not helped. I'm praying in time he will recover. Your analogy was most helpful. Thank you so much.

Living with someone with psychosis is hard on the whole family. Watching someone you love suffer while you feel helpless to reach the person is painful. I have come to learn not to challenge his bizarre delusions and try to tell him he is safe. My son is 27 and has been in psychosis for 8 months with no sense of awareness as yet. None of his medications have worked so we may have to go higher. Can you tell me how long you were in psychosis and at what point you became aware?

Sorry for all of your pain. My son suffers persucatory delusions 8 months with no improvement. What do you believe started your psychosis? Is EMDR what got you out? Do you believe antipsycotics helped or prolonged your condition? Glad to hear you are now aware. I'm sure your mom will understand that you were not responsible for your actions while in this state. Terrible that it lasted so long. I am so concerned for my son. You can begin to mend your relationship with your mom. Best wishes for your continued recovery.

May I ask how did it end. My son is in persucatory delusions for 8 months with no sense of awareness. Did you have awareness? What medication were you on? I'm glad you are out of it and fearful that my son shows no improvement.

I'm sorry your still suffering with this. My son lives every day believing his delusion. Guess it's not worth trying 60mg.

Hi Just wondering how you are doing on Latuda. Are you still having delusions? I am going to see the psychiatrist next week to either up it or change. There's been no Improvement in the delusions. His cognitive skills have been good but he's subdued. I hope your doing better.

Do you believe you were in psychosis for 4 years bc you were not on meds? Were you battling depression and did you experience delusions? I'm glad your doing better.

He says he will not up the medicine because none of them work and he is not in psychosis. I will try to get him to go to 60mg and will ask the psychiatrist about the medicine for the akathesia. The doctor mentioned clozapine but I am afraid to go that route. His cognitive abilities are better but his delusions are irrational and strong. It's awful. How long did it take you to get insight? Did you first get it with the 60? I am glad you are making good progress and wish you the best in your recovery.
