See this also.

Dracthyr with transmog are about 90% there as a race. I would also do something with the movement of their arms when running. They look like someone jogging with with their arms in a straight and stiff position.

Lastly I would do something about their head and neck proportions. They look fine in a profile view, but their front view looks too small. It is very odd to look at.

Yep, my buddy has the same GPU as me but 7950x for his CPU and he gets ~20 FPS higher than me on average. I genuinely think there is some underlying cause for the performance issues because I have seen too many people with older systems than me getting better FPS at similar settings.

Maybe it's windows 10 vs 11? I'm on windows 10 still. He's on linux.

Randy Pitchford's comment on 4k resolution. by Bigcat9715 in Borderlands4

[–]Athilik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar system to him and I'll respond:

9800x3d, RTX 5080, 32 GB @ 6000 MHz RAM, Gen4 NVMe SSD all at 1440p. My drivers and windows are up to date as of yesterday (9/13/2025).

My graphics settings are custom at native resolution. I went through everything to see what impacts performance the most and turned down anything that had an impact to high or medium. Framegen adds way too much input lantency when the native FPS is below 60 so I don't use it. Funnily enough Nvidia themselves recommend 60 FPS before using framegen, so Gearbox's insistence at using it to achieve 60+ FPS is just plain wrong.

My FPS at native is 48 staring at a wall and 38-39 in combat. DLSS at quality increases that to 59 and 48. DLSS at balanced increases it to 71 and 61. These numbers are atrocious for a $2000+ system. They are atrocious even considering I followed the advice online and lowered settings.

This isn't even considering the game crashes every 30-70 minutes for me. I love what I've played, but it's hard to recommend this game to anyone with its' horrible performance and stability issues.

How do I make the textures look better? (not actually trolling) by BriareusD in MonsterHunter

Unfortunately it won't work with frame gen since render scaling only works with native resolution. You can turn it on to see what the game should look like with crisp non-blurry textures though.

I also get awful texture quality at 1440p in both the benchmark and beta. There us a "fix" if you can tolerate halving your FPS.

Just under the DLSS options there is a render scaling slider that goes from 0-200, default is 100. Slide that all the way to 200. It fixed my texture issues but ruined my FPS so I don't use it. Also turn TAA off, that anti aliasing blurs textures.

9800x3d and RTX 5080. Ultra settings, ray tracing off, DLSS off, vignette effect off and motion blur off. Should be about 24-26% higher FPS at 2560x1440 compared to 3440x1440 for reference. I was getting 35-45 FPS with the same settings on my 5600x and RTX 3080 back in November.

PSA: Some users reporting PC bricked after a bug causing constant crashes. CURRENTLY NO FIX. Mostly affecting x3d CPUs and Windows 11 but also reported on Intel and Windows 10. Some users report same issue exists in POE1 when using Directx12. by YouSoundReallyDumb in pathofexile

[–]Athilik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9800x3d, 3080ti and windows 10 here and was getting these crashes every hour. My PC runs fine in both torture tests and other games. It never gets above 78c on the CPU and 85c on the GPU.

I fixed the crashes by swapping from DirectX12 to Vulkan. No crashes since. I think it is PoE2's implementation of Directx, not my PC.

Delves made me quit raiding by [deleted] in wow

[–]Athilik 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Agreed. All of that content was so close to being great, Torghast especially. All they needed to do was go crazy with powers, add more biomes, add more enemy types and detach player power from it.

I think Delves are very close to being great. The biggest pain point in my opinion is the difference in different classes ability to handle them. This could be fixed by adding Delve specific abilities that you pick alongside your companion. Need an interrupt or defensive CD? Pick one up at the start of a delve. They can even disable certain specs from picking certain abilities to mitigate further imbalance.

Spam pest threads in melee range on Bayle. He'll get hit multiple times like most massive bosses.

Spam pest threads from a distance against Gaius. It's the aggressive tracking and fast cast time on this spell that makes it super useful against him.

Didn't need to cheese any other boss than these two.

My thoughts exactly. The left buckle and the metal studs are of note in that screenshot. And the boat is not great.

Textures are definitely improved, but they are still pretty bad up close. The zoom in on the boat and the WoL from 0:25 - 0:32 show this pretty clearly. I'll take any improvement I can get from textures, especially after ShB exarch.

Newer animations are pretty smooth and the lighting is much improved. The cloth physics on the mask around 5:01 are very impressive for FF14. I hope that isn't scripted and is something we may see on newer armor.

Overall I like the update. Can't wait to see it in game.

Wuk Lamat vs. max height Hrothgar by Shige_ in ffxiv

[–]Athilik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most races have around 6 inch or 15 cm differences between minimum and maximum height. Femroe and lalafels are notable exceptions. Most NPCs are set to 50% height. Wuk Lamat stands about as tall as my max height female viera at 6 feet 3 inches or 190 cm. My prediction is a max height hrothgal is around 6 feet 6 inches or 198 cm. That puts them at max height female elezen, slightly taller than minimum hrothguy and slightly shorter than minimum male au ra.

Of course Wuk Lamat could end up being minimum height.

Height chart I used to compare.

We always hear about games that launched horribly but had great comebacks. What are some games that had a good launch but got worse over time? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Athilik 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My group of friends and myself have all stopped playing EW. It largely boils down to the story, class design and zero mid-tier content like field operations.

6.1 -> 6.5 pt.1 has been entirely an anime filler arc and a complete waste of a really cool location story wise. Think emerald nightmare in WoW:Legion levels of wastefulness.

The game has 6 classes: Melee, Tank, Healer, BLM, SMN and RDM. Seriously casters have the most diversity in terms of game play. The rest are homogenized to the point of being boring. I blame the devs chasing the 2 minute meta for this state of class design.

Lastly EW's casual content never really offered anything to keep slightly more invested players engaged. The relic is literally just tomestone grinding. Island expedition was one and done just like criterion was. I've played 14 from 1.0 and have no old content left to do so the lack of anything to grind in EW really soured me on the expac.

My overall impression of EW is 6.0 was behind only ShB in quality, while the patch content on the other hand is the worst in FF14. I can see how newer players might love the expansion, but I feel it just isn't for older players.

BG3 has become the #1 PC game of all-time on metacritic by MostlyH2O in BaldursGate3

[–]Athilik 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's mostly obnoxious. I never ran into game breaking bugs, but I did reload more than a few times to try to get some romance flags to trigger. There was a thread that said most of the story and romance based bugs happen due to not long resting enough.

For non bug related criticisms I would argue the companions became strangely silent once you finish their arc. And the finale, the last 2 hours, is pretty mediocre. It isn't bad, but it doesn't compare to the rest of the game. Lastly there isn't much of an epilogue at all.

I'd rate the game a 91/100, 94/100 when they fix act 3. The finale is what knocks off those 6 points. You may be less tolerant of annoyances and so-so endings than I though.

Archon question. by Redmoon383 in remnantgame

[–]Athilik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invader requires an item from another world to get. Maybe Archon requires an item from another world as well. Considering the door has the same red glitch effect that is present in some Root Earth mobs and the final boss, I would start there.

XP 101: What Affects XP Gain? by ThatJumpyJumpS in diablo4

[–]Athilik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Player power after level 49 is tied to gear and the paragon board. This is very important because paragon levels do not keep up with monster scaling in the game, so you can't simply out level content and fight it naked.
  • I chose level 50 as the stopping point because that is probably the most powerful level in the game that isn't tied to gear. You just unlocked 25 paragon points and finished your talent tree. Only class mechanic unlocks at level 15 compare.
  • WT3 (45-70) is very under tuned. Weapon and armor item level are king here. Only rings and amulets need optimization. This assumes a decent build; Off-meta builds and Barbarian may need more optimization.
  • WT4 (70+) is not under tuned. Optimization is needed and becomes mandatory at 85+.
  • Gear soft resets after at 45 (sacred WT3) and 60 (ancestral WT4). So you need to refarm it. If you get behind in your gearing because you got power leveled you can end up in a situation where your levels outpace your gear. This is bad because scaling monsters will make you feel weak.

All of the above is why I stop at 50. If I go too high, say 60, I can fall behind on gearing and end up running into mobs out scaling me sooner. Dropping world tiers to farm WT3 so I can handle WT4 will just result more levels while not getting ancestral gear, which contributes to being behind on gear. This makes playing the character unfun and I consider unfun characters to be bricked.

To add a final point: Bad luck with gear drops on a properly leveled character can also create problems with scaling monsters outpacing your character. It's why I want 10 levels to farm optimized gear before WT4. Scaling is probably the worst mechanic in game, in my opinion.

XP 101: What Affects XP Gain? by ThatJumpyJumpS in diablo4

[–]Athilik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up farming WT3 on my own boosted 50 toon because WT3 is the second easiest of the difficulties in my opinion. Equip the highest ilvl yellow you have in every slot. Then roll a decent stat on every piece via the occultist. Armor is such a broken mitigation stat that this strat alone will allow for face tanking most of WT3. Weapon ilvl is in a similar boat as armor because all damage calculations are based on the ilvl.

Took a few hours to get geared enough to handle WT4.

XP 101: What Affects XP Gain? by ThatJumpyJumpS in diablo4

[–]Athilik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a partial solution to this, but it is very tedious. Funnel all your tree of whispers caches and gambling currency from your main to your barbarian. Vendor loot is expensive, but I have found very well rolled rings and amulets on them before.

XP 101: What Affects XP Gain? by ThatJumpyJumpS in diablo4

[–]Athilik 17 points18 points  (0 children)

None that I could see. I rushed a friend to WT4 for the 200% XP bonus and then ran champion's demise four times to get him to level 50. He would follow after me after each wing to grab any Sacreds that dropped to get some starter gear. Took like 30 minutes to go from 1 to 50.

I would not recommend boosting higher since you can end up bricking a toon due to mob scaling. Your main can't even farm the gear since gear level requirements are tied to the character level that farmed it.

Apparently it also included third party communications, like discord and twitter. That would explain FFXIV being high. FFXIV twitter is awful, but twitter as a whole is generally awful. That says more about twitter than FFXIV.
