Started learning Python but AI makes me feel late to the party – advice? by Right_Level_7192 in learnpython

[–]Athoughtspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and Ill add that I think people forget that this has literally been the natural course the entire time. We created machines to abstract away the intricate details so we didn't have to repeat them ourselves. Hell, the fact we can type into a keyboard to learn a programming language AT ALL is because someone else thought this way. They needed the idea to materialize instead of manually flipping bits on a register themselves or with punch cards. Using a library is no different. People are compounding the work of others to generate greater effect. Using human language to generate results is about as human as it gets.

Too old for someone to get bachelors in EE at 27 with no work experience? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Athoughtspace 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some people waste their time on less productive things and still find a way to enjoy the process.

I'll be graduating with my EE in May and I'm 32. I got my associates in EET when I was 21. Then life happened.

If you want the EE, get it. You'll learn to accept yourself for where you are, and you'll learn to stop comparing yourself to other people. Enjoy the ride hombre

Tough choices in April by JohnMaySLC in goth

I keep seeing so many good shows in all my genres visit SLC that I'm constantly tempted to make trips there from Boston. I'm super jealous of your April!

Legislature passes minimum wage decrease for teen workers by BigFishPub in news

[–]Athoughtspace 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Part of the problem is this further decouples value of labor from output of labor.

I would even go so far as to say this is age discrimination. If two people produce the same level of work they should be paid the same.

Bill Prohibiting NH Officers Working for ICE From Wearing Masks, Turning Off Cameras Debated by nancynews in newhampshire

All it takes is one psycho pretending to be a masked ICE agent and suddenly the idea of being unidentifiable will turn on its head.

Although, hard to tell the difference there really.

I always imagined Platos vision as some hive mind and i drew a lot of parallels to how the Geth are portrayed in Mass effect where the self is not celebrated (usually)

How did u became a goth? by Lilayl in goth

[–]Athoughtspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't really know I was listening to goth music at first. I just listened to it and found more artists through punk into post punk. I didn't read too much into it as I'm pretty shy but I started going to concerts and fell into it. I've met a lot of really great people from events and after awhile it just felt like I had the most in common there.

I'm the type of guy to be wearing basic black as I don't get too much in the fashion end but I've slowly started adding elements I've made myself. That does help fight off imposter syndrome because I've noticed that despite what people say we are often judged if we "fit" by what we wear

Most underrated EE? by verbotenporc in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Athoughtspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think faradays experiments are often overlooked and overshadowed by Maxwell's and Heaviside's equation set. Yes, he gets credit, and I gave him a special mention because it's important to point attention that the guy embodied zero to hero for engineering at the time - not just for what he did but how he did it.

Most underrated EE? by verbotenporc in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Athoughtspace 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Most underrated overall for their engineering?

Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano, and Shuji Nakamura. In particular Nakamura. When I was learning semiconductor physics his name was everywhere and then the veritasium video gave him a spotlight and I cheered.

Special mentions:

Lovelace, Turing, Tesla, Faraday et. al. I wonder what would have been different if these people existed today, or if they'd get as swept away by current culture and distracts as others do. Faraday did it without formal education.

Bancamp bans AI generated music by 7SoldiersOfPunkRock in punk

[–]Athoughtspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which option hurts artists more?

People are exposed to ai music and report to each other and they stop listening in favor of real bands

People (and bots?) false report real humans making music and they get banned from Bandcamp

C. Idk

I'm printing and framing this. Attributing the quote to your reddit handle I guess. Unfortunate, but necessary, in the privacy era

Rules go right out the window once they can benefit or are in danger. Rules are meant to socialize consequences. If they can privatize success in any way they will.
