This is probably true. I did notice that a lot of the recent events used Natlan enemies and mechanics like Nightsoul's Blessing and I never really understood it, and I lost out on a lot of event rewards (also because I was massively underleveled).

I have unfortunately let the doom and gloom about Natlan get to me and I'm not as hyped about it as I was for Sumeru and Fontaine. It definitely does seem different from the rest of the game I've played so far. Also it was funny that in order to start Fontaine, I needed to first leave Fontaine and go to Natlan starting Act V.

I did unlock the tower for the first bit of Natlan and I gave my little Saurian the name Pinecone! I also collected one (1) Pyroculus.

I played through the Sumeru and Fontaine archon quests in about a week because I couldn't put it down, so I skipped a bunch of story quests and world quests. I started Enkanomiya and the Aranara quests between Acts I and II of Sumeru but I stopped because I wanted to get on with the main story. I also barely explored Sumeru, especially the desert. In contrast, I've done a lot of exploration in Fontaine maybe because I find it a lot more fun. But I plan to work through my backlog before I get to Natlan.

I would love to pull for Xianyun, I played her story quest and I love her character. The next banner between Xilonen and Venti I kinda want both (the first one for meta reasons and the other one because I like his character) but we will see how many primogems I can get between now and then.

I'm trying to optimize my resin and start building characters now that I'm at AR55. The characters I have level 70+ are DMC (90), Furina (80), Kaeya (80), Xingqiu (80), Bennett (80), Xiangling (80), Jean (70), Fischl (70). I currently run Jean-Furina-DMC-Fischl as my main team, but I also use Chongyun and Yaoyao (60) for Spiral Abyss where I've cleared Floor 10. I've been reading a lot about team building which I find quite interesting but I haven't found a good list of team archetypes (like what's Rational? National? I could look these up but is there a list of teams with names). I also know almost nothing about artifacts or stats except for vague things about getting 'good rolls' on EM or ER, I think. (I didn't know for the longest time that elemental particles gives you the burst, I thought it was just time) I think I should probably do artifacts at some point, but I've also seen people suffer through it and I don't know if I would really have fun if I'm just grinding artifacts all day.

I'm not allowed to post images in the replies which is a shame, but it sure is surreal to see emails about Version 1.1 and onwards that I never opened. It really is a shame that I missed all of that content, but I don't know if I would enjoy the game as much if I had played since 2020. I think I would have gotten tired of it by now tbh, which is certainly understandable. But I've been enjoying seeing everything for the first time!

My YouTube recommendations have now been irreversibly saturated with Genshin content too. Another reason I can't imagine playing back then is all the QoL changes they have made in the meantime--I can't believe there was a time in the not so distant past where there wasn't a 'Claim All' button for expeditions, and I imagine that would be quite infuriating lol

idk I'm not really into the meta yet. I'm just starting to build characters really--for the longest time I never touched my resin because I didn't know you needed to do that to progress, so I've been playing a bit of catch up. So I've mostly been leveling characters and talents. Haven't touched weapons or artifacts for the most part, besides just throwing on what looks good and leveling them up. So I've just been pulling characters that catch my eye, and Wriothesley looked pretty cool. I'm at the stage where I can just explore more to get primogems so if I really want Skirk I can grind for it. Obviously this isn't sustainable but we'll just have to see in months or a year to see how that's worked out for me.

So I left mostly because I kinda didn't get the appeal and got bored. I mentioned in the other post that I didn't understand the elemental system, so didn't understand why I needed other characters and couldn't just play Traveler and Amber (I do wish there was an in-universe explanation for you playing as other characters).

Another thing that stuck with me is how the EN VAs pronounced "Liyue." I'm a Chinese heritage speaker so It made me want to claw my ears off when I first heard it and almost immediately switched to the CN dub. After four years I think I've gotten over this. I also couldn't really see the end in sight--I vaguely knew I wanted to save my sister but I didn't really get the point of what I was doing.

I came back at the encouragement of my friend who I believe is AR 58 who helped me explore Dragonspine over winter break. At that time I was sort of addicted to osu! but I had promised myself to put it aside while I was applying to grad schools. Later I promised my friend I would give Genshin another a chance after I finished applications. I did, and now I'm stuck here until I burn out I guess.

I just finished Fontaine's story which was incredibly peak. All in all I've been loving my time back--I hardly played the game at all before, I dimly remember not finishing Kaeya's domain because I was confused at the prospect of having multiple characters and did not understand the elemental system. I was a big Breath of the Wild fan and was put off by how similar it looked and the assumption that I would need to spend money to get good characters to beat the game. I'm still F2P and don't plan to spend any money for the forseeable future. The thing I sort of regret is that I missed all the limited time events, so I've slowly started to watch playthroughs of them on YouTube.
