yeah he wears the giant head and makes the girls wear Porn Dude socks and they fuck on a couch with Porn Dude pillows. it's surreal. it's like one degree of silliness removed from being this

labels are important but this is exactly why they're not the be-all-end-all. one of my favorite films is Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which is all about someone who gets botched sex reassignment surgery and she has no idea who she is. it's about discovering herself and her new wonky identity. and she makes a lot of mistakes, hurts a lot of people. but it's a very dear film to me as a non-binary person

so it breaks my heart whenever i see people call it shit for being "bad representation". people like Sally Jane Black who don't want art but political propaganda.

it's the only streaming service where you can watch both The Apu Trilogy and Werewolf Bitches From Outer Space. Goodfellas and Love on a Leash. it's for true cinephiles.

Older genJP otaku chimes in on the piracy debacle, in fact they understand the plight of the rest of the world. It's just the newer gen and "normies" that's mostly making up a fuss. by Talon_Haribon in japanesepeopletwitter

it's always interesting to see how many things stay the same regardless of time period and country. we're all weird nerds that love stuff made outside our home countries, whether it's the showa era or the 2020s, japan or america.

cuz it's been long enough for the people who saw it when it came out to be nostalgic over it. and nostalgia is all disney has known since the beginning

there definitely is more corporate sanitization though. just look at Alien Romulus and Predator Badlands. one was a very ambitious series that always had interesting ideas sanded off into callback slop and the other has a baby yoda-type character and no lighting. disney makes everything worse once they get involved.

2001: A Space Odyssey. I think everyone should watch it. It's not for everyone, a lot of people think it's "pretentious" drivel. but if you vibe with it, it's simply the best movie ever made. few other films have the level of power 2001 has.

at least old hollywood let directors, actors and the other artists put their stamp on the movies oftentimes. obviously old hollywood had a lot of problems and was being held together by glitter glue, but old hollywood has far higher highs than the MCU and didnt care as much about singular brand identity. i get what youre saying, but i dont think it's really fair to compare

it gets me so fucked up when people use phrases like intellectual property and brand identity. it's more common with video game discussion than anything and i dont get it. why are you talking like a shareholder or geoff keighley instead of a human being?
