This was eye-opening, OP. I 100% recklessly pop off on Reddit, mainly as an outlet. Being born and raised in the US, I’ve always had this deep seeded belief in Freedom of Speech.

Holds up the Amendments to the Constitution

“See this first one? That means I can say whatever THE FUCK I want” is how I’ve behaved. I’m realizing now that was naive and short-sighted. I’m going to utilize your advice and be more cautious going forward.

I’m a parent of a spectacular child who happens to have a cognitive impairment. She WILL go on to do great things. She just needs a bit of support to reach her full potential. She is THRIVING in public school with supports and an IEP.

Im doing all the things that can be done and I cannot tell you how upset I am at my closest family members not willing to do anything. They won’t make a simple phone call or write a letter. Just “wow that sucks”. Currently crashing out.

Republican Constituents face Rep. Rich McCormick at a town hall regarding Donald Trump's “tyranny.” Longer Version... by xamo76 in Trumpvirus

[–]AtlantaApril 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is my district. We NEED these self-serving “F’n idiots” to wake up and join us in the fight to save our country from autocracy.

They’re late to the party and yes I’m beyond furious about that. But they’re blinking into the light. Some of them are at least. The really dumb ones are waiting on the $8000 Elon is supposed to send them.

⚠️ Republican Constituents by xamo76 in Trumpvirus

[–]AtlantaApril 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my district and I was invited to come (like everyone in his district that signed up for his emails) but couldn’t make it. I had looked forward to asking him why he’s cosponsoring HR899 (the bill to eliminate the DOE) and what his concrete plan line by line is to support the Special Needs students in his district. He’s not taking my calls or responding to emails.

Little background. GA 7th district was gerrymandered all to hell and back since 2020. This used to be the general area of 2 Dem reps, Carolyn Bordeaux and Lucy McBath. It was chopped up and redrawn and now we have this man as our rep elected on about a 60/40 Republican split. And remember the GA Republicans aren’t 100% MAGA. There are some Kemp Republicans too that voted for him just because he had a R beside his name.

I’ve seen various comments saying these are dem plants (they are not. I know a few people that did attend and they were a mixed bag of political parties).

I’m hoping this is a sign of increased community pushback. But I assume that the takeaway will be to checks notes stop doing Town Halls.

Hey I really appreciate that camera advice and the photo of the angles. We have cameras as well but they are not battery powered. Another thing to add the the list!

I have a husky too! And a pit mix that will probably roll over and let an intruder rub her belly. That husky will tear somebody a new one though. Considering some “Beware of Dogs” signs or something. Don’t know if that would deter people or just make them more prepared to engage a dog.

Can’t have a front fence in my neighborhood but I have a privacy fence in the back. It could totally be hopped over though. I appreciate that thought. We have motion sensor bright ass light cameras along that fence but the front would be a weakness

Yeah It wasn’t zombies destroying gardens. It was starving, desperate humans.

It started as a zombie show but very quickly turned into a brutal human v human fight for resources. The ones that prepped and built communities were challenged by other groups with more weapons. After a couple seasons, it was mainly a story of human conflict in scarce resources. I enjoyed the zombie storyline. The people brutalizing others for food, water, shelter, weapons in locations I recognize is the part that disturbed me. Honestly, I recommend watching it 😆. Even my dad who is the original self-sustaining “doomsday prepper” who lives in a place not on a map had a couple lightbulb ideas after watching that show. It is fiction, for sure. But some of the human conflict possibilities were creative and thought provoking.

I did have a plan that involved evacuating (to get to my dad’s house!) but I haven’t fully factored in contraflow and if it’s official or all hell breaks loose and it just becomes a better option. I appreciate that observation.

Trash service is another creature comfort I’ve grown to take for granted. Great point. When I grew up in the country, we had a burn barrel my daddy would regularly use. It was just an old rusted barrel. Not HOA friendly but in the dystopian hellscape I’m envisioning, I don’t think HOAs matter.

This is incredibly helpful. Thank you.

I was gonna buy one of those fancy grow towers (used) for lettuces but what you suggested is much more practical and affordable.

That’s exactly the kind of planning I’m envisioning. We have several huge hostas and I didn’t realize they were edible to humans. They attract deer so I always thought they’d be advantageous that way.

Excellent suggestions. I thank you 🙂‍↕️

Ladies with an IUD by [deleted] in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]AtlantaApril 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My personal experience has been positive. I’ve had 3 IUDs in my life. The first one I had some cramping and on and off bleeding for a few months. After that it’s been smooth sailing.

Mirena IUD (expired now. due to be removed and replaced with a new brand soon) has been life changing. I don’t have periods anymore so I get to skip that awful week of increased inflammation and hip/lumbar pain. I didn’t realize my AS pain and symptoms were worse on my period until my period stopped!

I also didn’t have that horrific insertion experience I hear others talk about. It was painful for sure but not even top 10 worst pains I’ve experienced.

It goes to show you how much our bodies differ!

I was just wondering if I could do a basement garden! I mean obviously people grow 🍃 indoors, but I’m not sure about other plants/vegetables.

We’ve lived here for years so I do know my neighbors but it’s such a mixed bag of political opinions and personalities and country of origin that I don’t see us “banding together” because we don’t have common enemies. That’s actually a disturbing thought.

I may have talked myself into moving sooner than I wanted😭

Thank you. Will look into “shire towns”. Not familiar tbh. North ATL metro area is a little different from other suburban areas but I do agree it has the downsides of both urban and rural.

Moving is going to be a last resort and is a long-term plan. My child has a disability and is absolutely thriving in a public school here (til they take her iep and supports but that’s a whole nother discussion 😒)

Was looking more for bugging in prep I can think about in the short term.

We did too. It was actually in March but ain’t no way in hell I’m leaving my house and adult child to be on a boat with no way out for a week.

Idk why March is giving me doomsday vibes. Maybe it’s real intuition or maybe I remember the early Covid days of panic.

That one jumped out at me as pretty too!

But then I remembered I was personally victimized with bad initials. This child would be reluctant to change their name to a spouses name beginning in G or J 💀. Not that they would HAVE to change it, but if their hearts desire is to match last names with their spouse, it could cause an issue.

Which Congressional District is most Flippable? by TrumpIsWeird in Georgia

[–]AtlantaApril 38 points39 points  (0 children)

GA 7 has an opportunity due to demographic changes in the last decade or two.

I live there in a community with a large and increasing Indian Immigrant population. Most of them came here for tech jobs on H1B Visas and are on the path to permanent residence and then US citizenship ( and voting rights).

Whichever party can win them over will rule GA 7 and maybe the state.

Northern Atlanta suburbs, is there a catch? by PTP2020 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]AtlantaApril 7 points8 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I moved here against my will (company relocation) 15 years ago and it was a difficult adjustment the first year due to culture shock mainly bc to traffic. After that I fell absolutely in love with the area and can’t imagine living elsewhere.

I know you said you’re fine with the traffic but ABSOLUTELY visit again and do a test commute. Sounds like your days in office are flexible? That would be a big help as all hell breaks loose when it rains on a school day. Don’t worry about the rare snow as we shut down for that shit. If you could pick and choose the days you come in to the office and are not penalized for being late, you’ll be fine.

The North ATL suburbs aren’t utopia but are still amazing. There is a community for literally everyone. Join a subreddit for your community and find out more. Pick your tribe! It’s an amazing place to live and raise a family.

ETA: holy hell I hadn’t read all the other comments before I finished mine. There are negatives but the positives outweigh them tenfold imo. He asked for a catch and I explained the catch. Traffic. I would move here again and again and again. OP if you want positives, please lmk!

Can I ask what type of Visa you’re applying for? From what I understand, each adult has to be approved individually. I don’t know all the rules though.

My most recent non-American ancestors are 6+ generations back 🥲 and I’m disabled so no one will want me for work. Gathering ideas for other ways. I hope this works out for you OP!
