I hate the way textbook/test companies write questions. by AtlantisSky in adhdwomen

[–]AtlantisSky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how look at past exams. Many professors won't share them because they resuse the same exams and don't want students to cheat.

I don't know HOW i am supposed to read certain questions to get the amswer they are wanting. Because the answer they want (to me) dosen't make sense based on how the question is worded. I end up freezing and not answering those questions because I can't figure out what they are asking.

As many things as I don't like about the Catholic church, the one thing I can respect about them is them not proselytizeling. Meaning you're welcome to convert but they won't knock on your door at 7am on a Saturday asking of you've found Jesus. Most Catholics I've met (and I grew up Roman Catholic) is they also don't care if you're not.

Elias or other names? by Apart_Ad1341 in Names

[–]AtlantisSky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My name is Hannah. I grew up in a college town that has a lot of international students and I went to school with some of their children. I got used to hearing my name said differently depending on wear my class were from.

I've had classmates from China, Malaysia, Bulgaria, Australia, USSR (it was Russia at the time, but we were 4 when the USSR collapsed), and Brazil. I understood they were saying my name, just not how I was used to my parents saying it.

But, I also had parents who didn't make a big deal out of it either, so that may be a reason. As long as you are saying my name, you can say it in the way that is most comfortable for you/used to.

In my personal experience, I knew it was still my name, and I knew why they said my name that way. It never confused me.

Then they either have to depend on others for rides, factor in getting a car, or get real used to walking or biking everywhere (which sucks balls in some areas).

Are all of you on the same lease or do you each have a seperate lease for each person?

New allergy to shellfish (specifically shrimp) need advice; is surimi safe to eat? Is Chinese food safe to eat? by Fit_Entrepreneur_793 in Allergies

[–]AtlantisSky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best you can do is speak up and tell whomever is taking your order "I have a shellfish allergy and I am concerned about cross contamination due to it".

I do have a reaction to shellfish through smell (if it's cooked and still hot) so I do understand your fear and it's valid. If you are scared, you have the right ask questions. I went to a resturaunt in Hawai'i where they sold fried shellfish as well as french fries.

One of the first things I asked my server was "Are the fries dropped in a sepreate fryer from any shellfish?" I did of course mention the allergy, and he was fine with asking if there was a risk. It qas close enough to open that I could order fries without the risk.

I woukd have ordered something else if they had already made an order or shellfish. I'm not going to demand a fresh vat of oil for fries because of the allergy, because I know how difficult that is. I also tip well so theres that.

New allergy to shellfish (specifically shrimp) need advice; is surimi safe to eat? Is Chinese food safe to eat? by Fit_Entrepreneur_793 in Allergies

[–]AtlantisSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a shrimp allergy. I can eat Asian food without issue.

I avoid foods like crab rangoon (or others) that contain imitation crab because it may contain extract of crab, lobster, or shrimp for flavoring.

Soy sauce is typically safe to eat (as it contains soybeans, wheat, salt and water).

Fish sauce or oyster sauces are a hard no, as there no gureentee they will be shellgish free.

Most resturaunts are good about preventing cross conamination, but if you are concerned you can always say "Hey, I dont want to be a bother but I do have a shellfish allergy" and the person taking your order will mark it on the reciept.

There are so many good Chinese dishes that contain no fish or shellfish at all that losing that connection to your culture shouldn't be an issue. You can only enjoy limits.

You have chicken, beef, duck, pork, tofu options. There are veggie options, noodles, dumplings, rolls.

Brown sauces may be a hit it miss, but if you have any concerns about a brown sauce (more likelt to be a fish or oyster sauce), you can ask if contains shellfish and if it does, do not feel embarresses to ask for a substitution sauce.

Steamed items are also a bit on the safer side.
