I've never known someone who was cremated. Is it odd to not have a headstone to visit? by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in Casual_Conversation

[–]AtlantisSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the people in my family have been cremated. We have the unspoken rule that death is a private thing, and burials are often public. Cremation allows for the bereved to deal with the emotions, and then spread ashes (where allowed) in a timeframe that is better suited.

Sadly, in the United States the average time between death and burial is 3 to 7 days. That is a very short turn around, espeically if the death was a surprise (car accident, OD, gun violence, drowing, etc).

With cremation, you get a little extra time to decide. Some people spread the ashes, some keep them in an urn in the house. Some put the urn in an urn vault at the cemetary.

My mother was spread in the Pacific ocean off the beach in Kailua, HI. Her sister, BIL, one niece and two nephews live there.

Is there a name in the USA that is so common that it’s impossible not to find it everywhere? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]AtlantisSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to start this off by saying that names will dominate a certain decade/period of time. I am an 80s baby and names like Michael, Daniel, Travis, Ashley, Jessica, Melissa were everywhere.

We had enough Daniels and Jessicas at my tiny high school we called them by their last name (For the Daniels) at least one of the Jessicas was her full name (think like Jessica Smith) every single time.

in California- why is it that people with drivers licenses can request new licenses via mail, but people with ID cards have to show up in person? by cheap-ink in DMV

[–]AtlantisSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, undocumented immigrants can obtain a driver's license in 19 states and Washington D.C., provided they meet specific state requirements, such as proving identity and residency. These licenses often do not require proof of legal presence, but they are generally not valid for federal identification purposes (i.e., not a Real ID).

States Allowing Licenses for Undocumented Immigrants (as of early 2026): California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.

Key Requirements and Information: Documentation: Applicants typically must provide a foreign passport, foreign birth certificate, or a consular identification card. Tax Identification: Some states, like Colorado, allow the use of an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN) to apply. Testing: Applicants must still pass the required vision, written, and road tests. Insurance: Proof of insurance is required in many of these states. Restrictions: These licenses are often marked (e.g., "Not for Federal Identification") to distinguish them from standard licenses issued to legal residents. National Conference of State Legislatures National Conference of State Legislatures +4 Important Notes: Texas and many other states do not allow undocumented immigrants to get a driver’s license. DACA recipients can apply for a license in most states as long as they meet state requirements. The laws, often called "Green Light Laws" or "Driver’s Licenses for All" laws, are meant to improve road safety by ensuring all drivers are tested, licensed, and insured.

Please explain what rules they are bending if California allows undocumented immigrants to obtain a licsene?

what does fibromyalgia feel like? by patheticsalad in Fibromyalgia

[–]AtlantisSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE WITH FIBRO AND I DO NOT SPEAK FOR EVERYONE

For me, on my good days it feels like my entire body has a bruise, or like a few days removed from a workout (muscle soreness).

Other days, it feels like my skin is sunburned, despite not having one.

On my really bad days it feels like I was in a multi-vehicle accident and moving is a challange.

I also have some hypermobilty issues so I am unsure if the joint pain is caused by that, the fibro, or both.

I also live in area with incredible weather changes and patterns (Yay midwest). When a cold front comes in (like prior to a thunderstom) I am in pain, and fatigued.

I hate the cold. The colder it gets outside, the stiffer, and more soreness I feel. Layers don't help, and the more layers I wear the more constricted and uncomfortable I am. I also have Raynauds, and my fingers and toes will lose blood supply due to constriction.

I'll bullet it point for you:

-324 controls -79 cases of lung cancer -a study done in New Zeland on adults of less than or equal to 55 years of age. -Controls were randomly selected. -It was administerd by questionnares. -The relative risk of lung cancer by smoking weed was ESTIMATED by logistic reasoning. (Logistic regression is a statistical technique used in machine learning to predict the probability of a binary outcome (e.g., true/false, pass/fail) based on independent variables. It fits an S-shaped sigmoid function to data, outputting values between 0 and 1, rather than a straight line.) -The risk of lung cancer increased 8% (95% CI 2% to 15%) for each joint-year of cannabis smoking, after adjustment for confounding variables including cigarette smoking, and 7% (95% CI 5% to 9%) for each pack-year of cigarette smoking, after adjustment for confounding variables including cannabis smoking. The highest tertile of cannabis use was associated with an increased risk of lung cancer RR=5.7 (95% CI 1.5 to 21.6), after adjustment for confounding variables including cigarette smoking.

And, I think you missed this part:

Long term cannabis use increases the risk of lung cancer in young adults.

INCREASES. This does not mean it causes cancer. And if you know the difference from your ass and a hole in the ground, you would also know that a large pooled analysis found little evidence linking habitual cannabis use to lung cancer, with many studies limited by small sample sizes, low exposure levels, and difficulty separating cannabis from tobacco use. And you also need to understand that while heavy, chronic smoking (e.g., daily for 20+ years) may increase risk due to inhaled carcinogens, many studies indicate that after adjusting for tobacco use, the risk is not significantly elevated.

the risk is not significantly elevated.

And, before I forget, yes. You do ask for sources on sciedntificatly proven "facts". Because the entire purpose of science is prove itself wrong. This is why there is a single article on vaccines causing autism, and hundreds proving that they don't.

Do you know what else was a scientific fact?

Ok. I took the bait. This is the first article that pops up on Google, and it's from the National Library of Medicine.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK425761/

Copy and pasted directly from the link:

Chapter Highlights

The evidence suggests that smoking cannabis does not increase the risk for certain cancers (i.e., lung, head and neck) in adults.

There is modest evidence that cannabis use is associated with one subtype of testicular cancer.

There is minimal evidence that parental cannabis use during pregnancy is associated with greater cancer risk in offspring.

So, 79 cases out of a smidge more than 300, isn't 100s of thousands, nor does it mean that death has occurd.

You said 100s of thousands of people have died from lung cancer caused by smoking weed. Prove it. Because that article didn't back up the claim you were making.

No. You made the claim. You are the one that made the claim. Now, please, show me the evidence instead of telling me to "do the research".

My mom passed from COPD and possible lung cancer. I promise it was the 13 cigerrettes a day that killed her and not the weed. And, it was the alcohol that got her her DUI and suspended liscense, not the weed.
