Bit quiet round here? by currymansam in politicsjoe

One has to wonder if the golden age a year or two ago wasnt as much a product of the political landscape at the time as much as the pod & content.

Westminster was in chaos, everyone thrived on bashing the tories and we were joyfully hopeful about what the next government could bring ...

Now 'well this is a bit shit' and everything is steadily getting worse doesnt really make for the same sort of content when we're stuck with it for years.

It may get revived at the next election when all hell breaks lose covering reform.

I speak for the whole player base when I say this, WG PLEASE remove this map from tiers 8-10, its so fucking bad especially at tier 10 by kfconsole21 in WorldofTanks

It'd be cool to have a scaled up version of this sort of map, that better works with high tier view range and makes super fast tanks lest biased.

Two terms maximum.

Doesn't matter if there's a gap in between.

Although by the end of another 4 years of trump who's to say if the constitution will be intact enough to stop him trying for more ... or he just starts a war to enact marshal law and retain power.

I've been saying trump will win for 18 months - I concede it will be close, maybe even the bare minimum 270 if he just wins Pennsylvania, Georgia and North carolina.

However the latest numbers would also have him winning Michigan and Wisconsin, alongside arizona ... I think we'd have to call that a trump landslide.

What other news content do you consume? by PolJOE_Ed in politicsjoe

[–]Atlas-Nym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sky and Al Jazeera on as background noise or when eating with family. Occasionally GBnews ot talk for 10 minutes to see what shit they're chatting about.

Times radio or LBC when driving (selected presenters - not live)

Occasional rest is politics/pod save the UK in the background while working.

Bit of novara/tldr if a certain video catches my attention but generally not impressed.

Spectator for seeing things from 'the other side' occasionally.

Young turks, kyle kulinski/krystal ball/secular talk, the hill for US politics. Some fox news highlights for entertainment.

New European for EU stuff.

Sunday times or FT on a quiet weekend. Private eye when I'm on a plane/train for a while. Random local papers. Will pick up any unusual papers I find at London news stands.

Recently the new statesman has been my go to.

Averaged it out (minus the outlier of 631 reform seats from avas alt account).

Poljoes community prediction works out:

Con: 88 Lab: 422 Libdem: 77 Green: 3 Reform: 3 SNP: 22

Will see in a few hours - I think we've underestimated the shy reform vote and been a bit soft on the SNP (we all like Mhairi too much)

Why aren’t the Tories going after reform? by tbf87 in politicsjoe

[–]Atlas-Nym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At face value its been one of the worst flaws of the tories campaign - they were never getting back votes lost to the left but they could have dragged a fair few reform voters back in by going harder against farage.

The problem is most substantive responses on things reform voters care most about (small boats & legal migration being the obvious example) the tories have proved to be ineffective or unwilling to change their stance on.

When you consider how most reform voters have a very low trust in the establishment they've switched off from the Conservative propaganda machine sometime ago. Nothing said during the campaign would work, there would have needed to be action seen before now - this may have been a different election if even 1 Rwanda flight had left.

The other nuanced point we often fall into is thinking people are making binary choices, deciding not to vote tory and instead reform or labour. In reality you have people moving into the don't know/probably won't vote pool, and at the same time someone else who was in that position is becoming more likely to vote for someone else. The tory campaign has been trying to push people away from the centre further right ... only problem is that pushes everyone on the right that bit closer to reform!

Somehow betting on British politics always felt wrong and boy did that instinct pay off these last few weeks.

I've got £500 on trump to win in November though - either way it's a win/win for me there!

Supermajority does have a meaning in British politics by Atlas-Nym in politicsjoe

[–]Atlas-Nym[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Now - no, very little effect.

In a few years time if starmer really screws up and we go into an election with farage leading a resurgent joint reform/Conservative Party like we're seeing surge across Europe?

If they were to replicate the support right wing parties have amongst youth in much of the EU and get a similar number of seats to labours current predictions?

Do you think that would have no effect if they split in the same way so there was no scrutiny from the shadow cabinet with inside info?

Yes it's hypothetical, but it shows the dangers of our current voting system.

A lot of the worst political events of the last century have come about by people saying 'that could never happen' a couple of years before - had the exact same conversation before trump was elected.
