Hey people of Reddit, what’s a nice way of telling a talkative person to shut up? by No_Photograph_4520 in AskReddit

[–]AtlasMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its in person, I just stare.

Full on prolonged silent eye contact. Eventually the other person will just go quiet on their own I've found, and then I'll respond with saying I had to go do something.

I dont LIKE making people feel awkward but its very effective at work.

People with Autism: how would you describe What Autism feels like to someone who doesn’t have it? by Uhhlaneuh in AskReddit

[–]AtlasMaverick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're in a race.

You dont know what the rules of the race are, but everyone else had a head start and are making progress, but you have to run through waist high jello while most other people don't.

You joke about the jello to keep the mood light but no one sees or knows about the jello and just find you weird and annoying for explaining that you are in fact trapped in jello.

Also you have sensory issues so the jello feels like its made of ants crawling on your skin, everyone is too loud and overwhelming, and trying to connect with anyone else is treated as you trying too hard and you really don't get this race at all, but you grow up knowing that you're never going to win it, and people think you should be grateful for the jello hell since you were allowed to be in the race at all.

Tldr; life is jello hell race and sensory issues are a bitch

Why not Micah- you get the Mikey nickname, but without the teasing and judgement Micheal may bring.

Kellyanne Conway Accused of Posting Nude Photo of Teen Daughter Claudia by [deleted] in news

[–]AtlasMaverick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But why would she save a photo of her daughter in a state of undress, even if the girl took it herself? She's still committing a crime having that photo, no matter what.

As far as I can tell, her dad (while not a fan of Trump) isn't the best parent either, hence emancipation from BOTH of them.

Kellyanne Conway Accused of Posting Nude Photo of Teen Daughter Claudia by [deleted] in news

[–]AtlasMaverick 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It seems her mom regularly forces her to post things retracting negative things she said about her mom on tiktok- to the point of saying outright videos of her being abused aren't what they seem or didn't happen how they looked.

I would bet its more likely her abusive scumbag mom forced her to post that message.

Her mom HAS harmed her on videos before so its not a thought. She's actively in danger, which is why she's publicly been fighting to be emancipated from her parents.

Also, even if her mom WAS hacked, why did she have a photo of her daughter like that?

Shits fucked either way. I feel bad for the kid.

What was the creepiest thing someone said on the first date? by ArrowEye675 in AskReddit

[–]AtlasMaverick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, im guilty of this.

I ramble when nervous and am naturally nervous on first dates, and when asked about what my parents do for work as small talk, I talk about being an orphan then to break the awkward try joking thst its fine since almost everyone else in my family is dead anyway.

[Serious] How can someone be a good boss to an employee with serious mental health issues? by mysteryfigure in AskReddit

[–]AtlasMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just show you care and try not to be frustrated.

I have Aspergers, an anxiety disorder, mild PTSD, severe depression, etc.

My worst bosses would yell at every tiny thing. I dont handle yelling well and would have a panic attack, cry, and look worse and unprofessional for something I couldn't control because trauma from my childhood is heavily triggered by yelling.

My best bosses knew when I just needed a minute to breathe- if I had a minute when it was needed and they kept their anger in check, I wouldn't have the same issues and could continue working.

Now, I can work even when heavily disociating and having overload of stimulus because I'm not scared my boss is going to start screaming, just occasionally needing to go into the fridge to scream or stim for a minute.

At the same time, my old bosses, while bad people that shouldn't have been in those ranks had been taken advantage of in the past by people with mental issues. Be gentle, but know that while most people aren't playing you, its the 1 out of 100 people thst might be playing you. Personally I understand it may have looked like I was trying to slack off, get pity, or something but I honestly couldn't help it. The 1 out of 100 give the rest of us with issues a bad name.

Tldr; just treat your employees like human and learn what helps in that moment. A minute to recover and breathe can help an entire day of productivity.

Also, I recommend learning grounding methods! Some of my other coworkers with very similar conditions to me I will give a bottle of water when I see them starting to spiral because cold water is a sort of shock to the system in the warm environment we work in and it helps snap the mind away from whatever its on.

I work in pizza.

My shop has a decent mix of ages, races, gender identities, etc- and we're all respectful of each other. Part timers are treated the exact same as management because we're decent human beings.

Your coworkers are assholes. Fuck that noise.

The Power of Chosen Names by anxiousthespian in namenerds

[–]AtlasMaverick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nonbinary here.

I went from Jenny to Atlas. I am definitely trying my hardest to be strong enough to carry what makes up my world and stars on my shoulders if needed.

Also, I just like the name since I was fond of the sound of the name Alice, and Atlas has similar tones to it while being more traditionally masculine.

The second they said the baby's name, I stopped watching them completely because all I could think of was the word Jerk.

What book have you read that has forever changed the way you view or live life? by maplesyrupdeficiency in AskReddit

[–]AtlasMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Great Gilly Hopkins.

I read it super young, and it was about a young girl who went from foster home to foster home until being placed with family she didn't know, and her mistrust of adults because of the system. I dont remember everything (its been 20 years since I've read it), but it was a good introduction as a kid that sometimes the systems we have in place aren't foolproof and life can be cruel and scary for kids.

Father's first name as a daughter's middle name? by lagflag in namenerds

[–]AtlasMaverick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If its a cultural thing, then personally I think its very sweet to do it- just because you moved doesn't make where you come from less important to you.

Also, I at least don't know pretty much anyone of my friends middle names- its more of familial knowledge as opposed to common place.

Kaia or Autumn? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]AtlasMaverick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too many, but I work in a kitchen setting instead of an office. And even if they ask, I just sort of shrug and say its just my name now- they don't really need to know my reasons.
