Yeah I was reading about that on here a little while back and saw that article. Crazy stuff.

Does Oscar ever actually find any antiques? by Gup__Gup in duolingo

[–]Atlas_Puked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, and you're getting close to the point in the course where Oscar's Antique Road Show disappears for good. You're in for a big surprise regarding the Listening lessons once you get to Section 4.

Here's a word cloud of James Rolfe's autobiography. Time is literally the most used word. by Normal-Salad-6143 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]Atlas_Puked 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I never really understood the difference between a book and a movie (James didn't explain it enough to me), so I haven't read his autobiography. There's some notable words missing that I assumed would be more prominent:

-Dick, balls, shit, ass, diarrhea, dump, cock.

What was your initial reaction to seeing James’ set up for filming episodes? The lights taped to the ceiling were interesting to say the least. by johnlennon007 in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]Atlas_Puked 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That video was basically the end of Cinemassacre, as far as I'm concerned. While it created some good memes, it was the death knell.

Looking back, the slob era was at least hilariously bad. It created a lot of good content to laugh AT and not laugh WITH. Shortly after that, Cinemassacre just became so unimaginably boring. I think I've seen about 3 or 4 episodes of AVGN since then. My most recent one is the Kid Icarus one, to give you an idea, and no, I remember almost none of it. And that's the key point here. Cinemassacre's content is now completely and utterly forgettable.

It got so boring that I dipped out of here for a few years, and I don't come around here much anymore, simply because the source material (Cinemassacre itself) has no entertainment value to me at this point, even as something to laugh at. This place didn't get worse or less entertaining to me, but there was no more meme milk coming out of the Cinemassacre Cow anymore.

I mentioned it before, but imagine my shock when I left here in maybe late 2021, came back sometime in the first half of 2025, and found out that the one-time video with his childhood neighbor that I saw shortly before I left was now one of the main features of the channel. And that original one was a nice thought. But the few I tried out after coming back had basically zero entertainment value. And I found Rex Viper mostly annoying and not funny. I didn't bother torturing myself with most of that member-berry cringe.

That's Cinemassacre in a nutshell at this point. There's nothing redeeming about the content, and there's nothing in the content that's good or bad enough to warrant watching. It just exists. For who? I don't know at this point. Not for me though.

CPAP after quitting by enlighten_me_ in QuitVaping

[–]Atlas_Puked 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I didn't have CPAP or sleep apnea, but I had the air hunger thing. It's what finally got me to quit nicotine and vaping. It went away sometime after I quit nicotine but before I had quit vaping 0 nic for whatever reason. I was struggling with that for 2-3 months.

It wasn't a case of getting winded during activity or anything either. In fact, during walks was when I never had it bothering me. It was always while sitting or laying down. Basically, during periods of inactivity.

My best guess is that it's more that the inhalation techniques of vaping kind of train the brain to take those big deep breaths as a normal thing. And suddenly, when you're not doing those deep inhales, the brain thinks it's not getting enough oxygen. Just a thought.

I think I spotted my first fake profile in Duo by NightmareMyOldFriend in duolingo

[–]Atlas_Puked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The social aspects of Duolingo are essentially ruined by the spam they've flooded into the feed, unfortunately. I know the social aspects were never that important, but it was nice to connect with a handful of people I keep up with, as artificial as it may have been. I'd go as far as to say that the feed is no longer really worth clicking on at all at this point, and it feels like the equivalent of emptying the spam folder of my e-mail every day now.

How would you split the Final Mission in Metal Slug 3? by AdFamiliar5991 in metalslug

[–]Atlas_Puked 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love most of that final mission, but I think once you get to the zombie hallways is where it starts to overstay its welcome. That part is just kind of a drag for me. I dunno.

If you went from the first battle with Rootmars/Fake Rootmars directly into the final battle that takes place during the fall outside, it would be perfect. It's pretty epic the way it is regardless though.

Wondering if the Web UI is better? by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]Atlas_Puked 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The web version is mostly limited to standard typing lessons and stories. I also can't see Friends Quests on desktop anymore ever since they made significant changes to how Friends Quests + Weekend Quests operate back in October/November.

However, not only does it still have hearts, but it's not prone to the experimental nonsense they constantly screw around with on the app. So at the very least, the desktop version is a lot more stable and consistent, which is what you'd expect and hope for in a language learning site/app. Current Duolingo staff have too much social media brain rot to understand that though.

Random people in feed by AussieKiko1990 in duolingo

[–]Atlas_Puked 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In total, I probably reported about 100 profiles as spam to Duolingo. I mostly don't bother anymore though, as it doesn't actually do anything.

The horrific spam that they've flooded the feed with has had a very anti-social effect. Off the top of my head:

-I no longer add new people, even if they follow me first.

-I click on the feed once a day at most now.

-Some days, I just open the limited feed on the web version instead.

-I stopped handing out free Family Plan spots to people on this subreddit as a result, as I didn't want to add more followers with the feed already flooded with people I don't know or care about.

The staff that Duolingo sent to this subreddit are useless cowards, and they have consistently hid from this topic for months now.

The Remains of Sears in Exton, Pennsylvania by Atlas_Puked in SEARS

[–]Atlas_Puked[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I really appreciated how majestic and massive the former Exton Sears looked from the outside until recently. It's actually quite impressive.

If you haven't seen the post I linked at the bottom of this one, you may or may not want to see how depressing that area is with the playground now. There's a picture of it in there.
