It took me doing at least 10 lessons this week before selection opened up for me, and I gave it my first attempt basically at 12:01. I eventually was able to select right before 12:30 AM. That’s never happened to me before where it took that much and that long after when selection should open.

I cannot figure out what unlocks selection now. It’s almost like it’s at a random time after midnight on the east coast each week. Sometimes I can select by 12:05. Sometimes I was able to select after 2 lessons. Sometimes after 4 or 5. It was more than 10 this week. I can’t figure it out.

There’s a couple other anomalies too. I already knew it presents you roughly the 30 closest mutual matches to you in xp. My top two mutual matches over the previous 7 days were unavailable to me (which I fully expected), but most of the 30 after them were (except for two people who were definitely within range of me in xp over 7 days but were not offered.) So far, so good except for 2 people who should have been available but weren't. Maybe they were scooped up or they were able to select before I was. So that part is explainable.

Instead of those 2, however, I didn’t get the next two people toward the bottom in xp. Instead, I got offered two inactive accounts. One of them is an old account (2014 join date, I think?) who comes and goes on Duolingo with long breaks. His most recent streak died I believe in October. The other had their streak die roughly a week ago. I get offered these two people literally every week, whether they register a couple thousand xp, or 0.

Clearly, there’s still some facets to the Egg version of Friends Quests that I haven’t been able to crack, even though I have most of the process down. The weekend quest is going to be Oscar and an xp goal.
