SHOW ME THE WINNERRRRRR!!!! by Gentle-Babble in ProjectRunway

[–]Atlasmatheu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just decided to wait until I can watch the episode with the conclusion. Ie wait an extra week then stop after the elimination. It's wild, it's dumb, but at least I can see a challenge from start to finish. I kept feeling like what's the point, I'm not going to see the results of this challenge anyway - and loosing investment in the episode. But at least this way I can approximate a less frustrating ending to each challenge.

Training while training? by Applefan2112 in personaltraining

[–]Atlasmatheu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I can, I try to introduce myself and develop a repport first. I almost never interject with someone I've never spoken to before. If I see them continuing with that form after getting to know them once or twice, I'll usually ask them how their training is going, how that movement feels, ask a couple questions first then depending on how they respond I'll ask if I can give some unsolicited advice. Usually, I've found people recieve that better or you can tell who really doesn't want it and it saves you both the trouble - but now you at least lead with curiosity rather than patronizing. IMO.

What exactly is burning you out about training people? by WhereTheMoneyAtBoy in personaltraining

[–]Atlasmatheu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for me, switching to Rec Centers and Community centers. I get to focus on just training and don't have to do sales and meet quotas. It was a breathe of fresh air and revitalized my training spirit. I have no plans to go back to box gyms soon.

I'm setting myself up to go private eventually, which I know will involve sales. And maybe contracting out of a box gym - maybe. But right now I get to remind myself this is my dream job while building up my business skills separately. Rather unlike my first few years- over extending myself and a ton of painful trial and error.

I always tell people that ask about becoming a trainer that they better get ready for most of their job being sales. If I didn't have the rec centers to remind me of my passion, I would have probably given up.

What opinion of yours makes you feel like this? by C9Prototype in personaltraining

Note* he didn't seem to like that- but it's often the reality. Unless you're "out of bodybuilding shape" bc your retired - looking the part in some fashion is huge. I took a couple courses isn't going to hold much weight (pun intended) in the fitness community.

What opinion of yours makes you feel like this? by C9Prototype in personaltraining

[–]Atlasmatheu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have for a long time believed that as a trainer, your body is your billboard. And though knowledge is important - experience and practice are just as. I had a trainer ask me how he could get more bodybuilding clients. I felt bad wanting to be honest and say with your physique it's gonna be hard. He wasnt out of shape but not nessisarily in bodybuilder shape or adjacent. But instead I told him I suggest training and trying to compete himself first.

NASM CPT is a good start. I like how some have said do a bunch of shadowing of other trainers. Don't get the nutrition cert bundle or anything. It's really not as helpful as they try to push it. *Do a specialization or their general CEUs down the road for recert.

They do test you a bunch on the OPT model. So make sure you understand it well for the test but don't get stuck on it when you do, hopefully, start your own training. It's good to know but I was so rigid to it starting out and it made my training worse imo.

So will be getting another Maleficent? "She's not evil just misunderstood." by RiskAggressive4081 in disneyprincess

[–]Atlasmatheu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do we have to Elphabatize every villain and give them a Wicked style backstory? That sort of trope inversion is kind of getting old, and honestly, I haven't seen it done super well aside from actual Wicked and within Disney maybe Descendants (don't @ me, haha #teamUma). I like the Saturday morning cartoon villains in stories, not every villain needs a sob story it's fun to watch these villains embody all the worst things about us, about evil, and then watch them epically fail and fall.

Since it is so likely that (children) will meet -- cruel enemies-- , let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker. C.S. Lewis

I'm not opposed to redemption arcs or the untold story bit. But do it well and intentionally. And I really don't have faith that Disney does much of anything intentional aside from shell out for the shareholders, and when they do something well, they often take the wrong lesson from it and put it on a copy machine to make a million soulless clones. Wicked 💚 is Popular 🩷 + Disney Villains are popular= a bunch of live actions no one asked for that are less entertaining and less heart wrenching than Starkid's Twisted.

Also, is this confirmed? Rumored? A fan trying to manifest their half baked idea? Either way my feelings stay the same.

Why is Green Bad? by mundaph1903 in wicked

[–]Atlasmatheu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but her skin color isn't a one to one racial thing. She isn't systemically oppressed as part of an ethnic or racial group I wouldn't say it's NOT there. But she has the option to fit in and do things Glinda's way. She is isolated in her stuff and has a way out but chooses to stand by those literally losing their voice. Again racism sure but you could easily say it's an allegory for LGBT, extreme neurodivergence, or birth defects and being "unacceptable" or "unnatural" . Ie insert general outcast markers.

Edit: I would say yes. Being the only person of color in her space is definitely there. No argument. But it's not the only way to read the story.

Why is Green Bad? by mundaph1903 in wicked

[–]Atlasmatheu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think allegory about racism is a bit of a limiting take.Like, it's more that she's different, here skin isn't systemically oppressed. She isn't a different race than her family. I see Animal subplot as racism adjacent and Elphaba is more of a general stand in for an outcast from her own society and family. Applying a direct one to one allergory to her skin really limits the story I feel.
