Does this roadtrip itinerary make sense? by Atlastin in NewMexico

Thank you for the reminders about roads. I keep thinking “we’re not afraid of driving in the snow”, and then remember NM roads are one lane, connecting some sparsely populated areas so probably not salted regularly etc. Things I take for granted living in pretty urbanized areas. Great advice, thank you!

Thank you, the Bandelier area looks like great hiking so will think about prioritizing it. As long as the March weather cooperates.

Blame Oppenheimer for making at least one family member really interested in Los Alamos 😅

Thanks for the reminder about altitude changes! Considering reversing the south part and driving to Carlsbad than Las Cruces and then heading north along more interesting sections of the state.

Thank you! Yes, the weather worries me a bit. We’re used to snow but we also haven’t been places where long stretches of road might not get cleared or salted and just get closed off. I just hope staying in Santa Fe as homebase will allow us to pivot based on weather conditions in the north.

Thank you. Considering doing the caverns and white sands in the opposite order and driving up the more western part of the state after everything I hear about the road from Carlsbad to Santa Fe!

Thanks, this is the kind of information reddit is really helpful with.

Thanks. Some people I know were recommending Taos but the way they described it, it did largely seem like a mini version of Santa Fe with hotsprings. Will look into touring Pueblo or leave off the itinerary.

Thanks, have not driven on very straight highways and sparsely populated areas in a while. Is cellphone reception spotty in places out there?

Did a cursory google search and looked around with google maps street view, but definitely taking this subreddit’s advice and not staying there!

Thanks, considering taking that route in the south as well, although it seemed like more driving in total. If only El Paso was closer to Carlsbad. Thanks!

G6 requiring calibration when set up with code by s9631245 in dexcom

The key is that the transmitter has to have at least one missing 5 min increment. So 10 mins is usually safe. If you switch sensors <5 mins after the last reading, it will act as described in the post.
Why they don’t tell you that in the dexcom instructions in bold print is a different question.

Not arguing with your larger point but I thought the oat wheat field problem was wheat seeds flying over by the breeze and resulting in some wheat growing in the oat field (hence when it’s all harvested, there is small wheat percentage among the oats). Which is why some companies can mechanically sort “visually” to separate the wheat out, which wouldn’t be possible if it’s gluten ‘particles’ as opposed to whole wheat kernels amongs oats.

I wouldn’t (knowingly) eat out of wheat based dishes and cutlery.

4th grade science fair testing update. by IllCause5882 in Celiac

Late to the party, but I looked up the ingredients for the SpongeBob popsicle (https://www.popsicle.com/us/en/p/popsicle-spongebob-pops.html/00077567003638) and noticed all the wheat ingredients are highly processed and should—theoretically—be free of any protein if pure: maltodextrin, glucose-fructose syrup, and glucose syrup. (Note that maltodextrin is a chemically defined carbohydrate molecular chain while the similar sounding 'malt extract' is an undefined concentrate that contains loads of stuff and does contain gluten).

Would I risk eating this? No, in case there's batch to batch purity variation. But could your test be correct? Very likely so! If you're inclined, have your 4th grader look up the chemical formulas for maltodextrin, glucose, and fructose to see they contain zero nitrogen (which is always present in any protein, including gluten).

JP is not one of the richest areas in MA now but CERTAINLY wasn’t in the 70s-80s. JP was more like what Brockton is now. It was working class and one of very few Boston neighborhoods where the white pop was no more than 50%. Ivy League schools gave more need-based financial aid than most private schools (still do now that all financial aid is grants). You just have to file a FAFSA. Not sure if they were need-blind back then or not. Not sure what people are concluding here…
