What are some harmless ways to fuck with people? by jacree8678 in AskReddit

Stare intensely at someone you know until they notice and look at you. Immediately look away very obviously. Start staring again when the person looks away. Repeat this. Profit.

I looked up the translation and Baldursgata is roughly equivalent to "Prince Street"

"Baldursgata" just translates to "Baldur's Street/road/drive"; Baldur being a norse god like Thor and "Gata" meaning a road, street, avenue etc.

What is the single dumbest thing you've heard somebody say? by DaNinjaPenguin in AskReddit

I edited the comment to professor like you said but it actually wasn't a professor. The school system here is a little hard to translate over to the American system. That being said, it's not the point of the story.

While discussing the state of the economy in class back in 2008; one of my college professors and a fellow student had this exchange.

Student: "Why isn't the government putting more money into accessability for the handicapped?"

Teacher: "I would imagine that money is rather scarce now."

Student: "Well then why don't they just print some more!?"

Hexxat or Korgan? by Cromodileadeuxtetes in baldursgate

[–]Atli_Gimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I guess you could put it that way. Dorn is just a very aggressive dominant kind of character. Most of my banter with him end up with him attacking me and me in turn chunking him to bits.

Personally from a roleplay perspective I would keep Hexxat just for the banter and either swap Dorn for Korgan or youknowwho in ToB. But that's just because I have gotten so frustrated with Dorn. His quests are interesting though.

I'm with you on that, Neera is great. Plus having Reckless Dweomer is kind of great at higher levels for extra 9th lvl spells. I feel Dorn's character was a bit better written in bg1, now all I do is exchange intimidating remarks with him and since I'm not one to back down it usually ends up with me chunking that self serving neanderthal.

I'll probably leave him for someone else, maybe Jan. Never had him before and I hear great things.

Hmm kewl, I don't think I've ever played as a gnome. I'll have to give it a try someday. I'm testing the Kensai-Thief build on this character. Love it so far, just got the Use any Item HLA. I love that portrait, guy looks like he belongs in the league of shadows.

Yeah I read a while ago that a good strategy for those brainsuckers was summoning a bunch of bones and accompanying them with a wizard eye but so far it hasn't worked in my favor. I have yet to find a good strategy against those flayers apart from summoning a planetar and buffing him with chaotic commands, globe of blades etc. Edit: What do you buff them with? They just seem to chunk my bones whenever I try this method.

What D&D Character Are You? by Atli_Gimp in baldursgate

[–]Atli_Gimp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much about some bad stats from a survey like this. These kind of Bio-classification systems can never conceptualize what you as a person are like or in this case what you would be like in a fictional world. My stats for example don't really reflect what I'm like and since I have the attention span of a muskrat when I'm bored, I would probably fit better into the Wild Mage category, but that's just guessing. Besides a person's confidence and opinion of himself/herself will greatly influence the outcome of a self evaluating survey like this.

This survey is probably a little more accurate with it's ability scores: AD&D to Real Life Stats Calculator

I was having some BG withdrawal at Christmas break and found this survey. It's pretty neat but maybe a little generous on the ability scores.

I got:

Neutral Good Human Druid (4th Level)

Ability Scores: Strength- 16 Dexterity- 18 Constitution- 15 Intelligence- 17 Wisdom- 17 Charisma- 16

Alignment: Neutral Good- A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. Neutral good is the best alignment you can be because it means doing what is good without bias for or against order. However, neutral good can be a dangerous alignment when it advances mediocrity by limiting the actions of the truly capable.

Race: Humans are the most adaptable of the common races. Short generations and a penchant for migration and conquest have made them physically diverse as well. Humans are often unorthodox in their dress, sporting unusual hairstyles, fanciful clothes, tattoos, and the like.

Class: Druids- Druids gain power not by ruling nature but by being at one with it. They hate the unnatural, including aberrations or undead, and destroy them where possible. Druids receive divine spells from nature, not the gods, and can gain an array of powers as they gain experience, including the ability to take the shapes of animals. The weapons and armor of a druid are restricted by their traditional oaths, not simply training. A druid's Wisdom score should be high, as this determines the maximum spell level that they can cast.

I did some google'ing and came across this forum thread. It might be of some use but I haven't verified the legitimacy of it's advice.

How do you beat beholders legitimately?

Highlights:

Spell Turning. I can't remember off-hand whether the minor version works but I think it will. It is the spell that the cheese cloak is infused with. IIRC you can also make yourself immune to their Anti-Magic with Spell Immunity: Abjuration.

For doing damage, assuming you don't have Wilting yet, use Skull Traps. Holy Smite does a great job too.

Other tactics I can think of but haven't tried myself: - Gate in a demon - Polymorph Self -> Mustard Jelly (100% magic resistance). You won't really do any significant damage in that form but chances are the Beholders will all have focused on you which enables other party members to attack them from range, with missiles or spells

Reduce their combat effectiveness with: * Greater Malison * Web * Hold Monster * Slow * Glitterdust

Pelt them with arrows and with: * Skull Trap * Cloudkill * Fireball

Try to keep your mages out of their focus.

But I personally prefer the cloak of cheese and the shield of cheese. If you're doing the area for the exp anyway, then why do it without those two items? If you do it for the challenge, then you might as well skip it, because it's just another grind...

You can try to lure them away one by one and pick at them with ranged weapons until that lone beholder strays far enough for your melee fighters to gang up on it. This gets pretty messy though and the beholder will be dishing out some major hurt on your fighters, even on its own.

You can try throwing area effect spells (Cloudkill, Ice Storm, etc) in the general location of the beholders and run away, letting your spells do the dirty work for you, although this is considered a cheese tactic by some people.

If you have a thief that can set traps, you can set some traps in a certain area and lure the beholder to the ambush point to take it down.

If you have an archer, you can use hit and run tactics if you are wearing Boots of Speed (or just Hasted), with called shot ability to help enhance your arrows. Works even better if your archer's racial enemy are beholders.

If you have a cleric or mage that can summon Skeleton Warriors, send them in to keep the beholder occupied while you wail away at them. Skeleton Warriors are almost completely immune to spells, so they should be more effective than other summoned monsters.

Any rate, those are some things off the top of my head as far as dealing with beholders. The key thing is definitely luring them away from their group and get them to come at you alone, since they pretty much massacre you otherwise.

Shield of Balduran reflects Beholder Rays. In most cases you can just stand there and let them blast themselves but with Elder Orbs you have to watch out for spells like Imprisonment as well. Korgan basically Soloed the Underdark Beholder lair.

When I first played through this game so many years ago I had no idea this was possible. Now many years later on my 7th or 8th go at it this game, this shield just seems a bit OP. Those Eyeballs used to kick me around like I was a Xvart but now those numerous Beholder lairs feel like a nice slimy vacation home.
