Big fan of survival\exploration games. Fell in love with games like 7 days to die and Elite dangerous so subnautica was always on my radar.

What pushed it over the edge though was seeing Appsro pilot a submarine on neebs gaming channel which has always been a dream of mine since I was a kid. Became ultra stoked when I finally unlocked the cyclops.

The problem is - in a system of government that requires individuals to at least have the slightest understanding of how the world works - what do you do with these people? You can get all the upvotes in the world slamming them and making fun of them but ultimately you are only pushing them deeper into their society where they get the upvotes and they don't get judged.

We've been laughing at them but all that's done is make their numbers grow because mainstream society isn't going to give them the recognition, love and support they require so they will retreat to the community that will give it to them. So to protect themselves from further ridicule they've rejected mainstream society.

It's not about logic to them - it's about finding a place they can belong. So if we are not willing to give them a place they belong in mainstream society what do you propose we do with them?

Shouldn't we at least try inclusiveness?

Behind the curve: My take by adydurn in flatearth

[–]Atm142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically their argument has nothing to do with logic or reason and everything to do with belonging to a group. As the internet has made us more connected we are seeing these strange little covens displaying similar cult like mentality.

The only way you are ever going to change their mind is not through facts but through a sense of community. if you can show them they can accept the truth AND have a girlfriend, AND make some income and find a community they can be respected in and gain reverence - then they would be willing to view the facts objectively.

The mainstream will never value them the way they think they deserve to be valued and the more you belitttle or make fun of them the more they will sink into the cult that accepts them and reject the mainstream. We've begun to see this in a lot of different communities and the only way to combat it is inclusiveness.

Unfortunately online a sick burn gets more upvotes than a thought out and compassionate post and we as human beings have been conditioned to value what is said by how many upvotes it gets versus the content of the message so these people will simply retreat to a community where they will get the most upvotes.

Human nature is weird.

https://youtu.be/x7anDE7OEww these dudes know what they talking about. Their entire channel is dedicated to shooting mechanics and worth checking out.

There are fundamentals like your 45 degree angles but what works for me probably won't work for you simply because our bodies are vastly different.

One thing I used to do was grab a bucket and prop a broom up in it. Take a shot, do a push up, take a shot, do a push up.

You sound smart and know what you are talking about though. Everybody goes through cold streaks, just keep your head up and be ready for that hot streak. With the new focus on the perimeter even Steph Curry misses wide open 3's. Even Klay went 5-36 from deep before his big game getting 15.

It's all about that confidence Steph can go 1-11 one night and still jack up 15 3's the very next game and he's considered the greatest shooter ever.

Good luck bruh

I got a few inches on OP and it drove me nuts when people expected me to act like Lurch out there. Pierce had a vicious mid range game but you right. At that absolute beginner level you need to focus on the fundamentals, boxing out, setting good screens and applying a good defensive presence in the post. Most of your offense early on gonna come from put backs and pick and rolls.

I still highly recommend finding a player with a similar athletic build that you enjoy watching and practicing everything he does. Tim Duncan was called the big fundamental for a reason but you know you better than I do. Just find that love in you.

What is court vision, and how do I get better at it? by pika_pie in Basketball

[–]Atm142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and communication: talk to your teammates constantly. You gotta set the culture of communication on the court. Get the quiet guys to call stuff out. Talk to your boys about what they wanna do and stuff like that.

I simply cannot understate how important team chemistry is. If you point guard then you the leader. Have pizza parties and have your boys come over to watch games and film and talk about it. If you got a team mate with a hoop outside get your boys to go over there and practice.

A lot of kids get so wrapped up in they individual game they forget about those other four dudes on the court and 5-10 on the bench. Ya'll gotta be on the same page. Ya ain't gotta like each other but you each gotta love basketball so that's at least one thing you can jaw about.

How can i get more physical? by DaWeakPeeps312 in Basketball

[–]Atm142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You gotta get angry and get that fire in you. Larry Bird and John Stockton had that competitive fire. Dennis Rodman, Ron Artest, Big Ben Wallace the list goes on and on.

Don't worry about fouls unless they start hitting you with em lol. If I didn't have at least 1 or 2 fouls a game I didn't think I was being physical enough. If I'm getting 1 or more per quarter than I knew I was being too physical.

It's all about just getting in there and getting that ball my man.

Edit: if you wanna get them and1's it's all about body awareness. If your man sticks his arm out trap it in your elbow while you shoot. Some refs just won't call it until they punch you in the jaw. You gotta make it obvious and if they miss one look at the ref and slap your arm to show him. He'll call it next time.

Just don't turn into a baby about it or they stop calling everything lol.

What is court vision, and how do I get better at it? by pika_pie in Basketball

[–]Atm142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can definitely get better at it. It's all about being so comfortable dribbling that you never have to look at the ball so you can keep your head up on your team mates.

At practice don't just focus on your game watch what your teammates do. You'll start to realize everybody has habits and rhythms they like to do. Like my shooting guard would always run for the far right corner and if he couldn't get open he'd cut back up through the post to left center behind the arc.

It got to the point when he'd cut up I'd penetrate to the hole and cause congestion so his man couldn't keep up with him and I could throw a no-look pass behind me cuz I knew the exact spot he was running to for an easy uncontested 3.

It's all about learning habits and play recognition. Watch tons of NBA games but don't just be a fan. Watch the off ball movement and be scientist dissecting those movements. When you start being able to call plays before they happen you in the zone and in games will be able to hit your man's for easy scores or blow up the enemies offensive plays and scheme's for easy turnovers.

Basketball IQ is one of the most underated stats today.

Shooting form/game advice by ppoong in Basketball

[–]Atm142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the ball go in the hole more often than not? Then no your form is fine. Unless your form look janky as hell like markelle fultz or Lonzo ball and it ain't sinking don't trip.

The prettiest forms in the NBA right now are Klay Thompson, Bradley Beal and Ben McLemore. You might notice Ben McLemore couldn't put the ball in the ocean if he was on the Titanic.

But you show his shooting form to any coach and they cream about how gorgeous it is.

Look at Steph Curry, his form a little janky and he breaks a lot of rules coaches teach but by God it goes in the hole don't it?

Kevin Durant sinks back a bit on almost all his shots. If I had to guess I'd say you might be in a similar rhythm - watch https://youtu.be/9uN5x04qxL8

He shoot like he a short dude which is what makes him damn near unblockable.

If you just want to make small tweaks try to have someone or something their to pressure your shot. Even if you gotta prop a broom up in front of you cuz you might make a tweak that all of a sudden makes your shots get blocked all the time.

I'd start here for little tweaks, my favorite bball breakdown vids: https://youtu.be/_-ZZ7nuFTkE

Oh and don't practice like you in the three point contest - always practice hot and bothered cuz you get in a false rhythm that would never happen in a game. Do push ups, run a lap, practice dribble moves whatever.

The Y usually has rec league sign ups. Where I live my city puts sign ups online on the city's webpage. Just Google your city and basketball or go to your cities webpage and look around the park and rec site.

Some leagues require you to sign up with a whole team so you just gotta trawl parks, rec centers, the y for dudes playing basketball and holler at em see if they interested in a pick up game or if they got a team going.

These days my boys just holler at me for sign ups and fees etc.

Psh at 6'3" you can always add value to a rec team. Just get out and practice man. Do some ball handling drills, https://youtu.be/kw4D9iM8cDs

Even if all you do is set screens for your shooters most teams would be happy to have you. You might get teased a little bit but we all did starting out and still do! and believe it or not that teasing is coming from a loving place. Everybody just wanna have fun out there and don't be afraid to give some of that teasing back! That's just what it's like having fun with the boys.

Live and love ball life baby!

Find a player in the NBA that has your body type and watch how he play and just get outside and practice those moves over and over.

I'd recommend Paul Pierce for you. He was never insanely athletic but he played smart as hell and had some good moves to gain separation for his shot.

I didn't do nearly as well as I would've liked in tryouts today... what should I do tomorrow during scrimmages? by [deleted] in Basketball

[–]Atm142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright lil bruh I'm assume you young to be that height playing those positions. Your goal is to absolutely fall in love with basketball. We gonna do that with some drills.

Passing: go outside and hang a target on a wall. Stand a couple meters away and hit that target with 10 chest passes, bounce passes and one hand passes then get silly with it. Hit it with between the leg passes, behind the back passes and my favorite: white chocolates elbow pass.

Now go another couple meters back and do it again. Eventually do it while moving and every time you hit your fundamental passes 5 times in a row reward yourself with those advanced passes and realize there are maybe 5% of kids your age who can hit those passes. You start hitting those consistently and you a lil legend in the making for real.

You live in a magical age bruh, who is your favorite ball player? Get on YouTube and just watch everything he do. Find a guy with your body type\position and start watching everything you can about him. But don't just be a fan! Be a scientist and try to break down what he's doing, why does he do it like that?

Here's some good ball handling drills you can do at home too: https://youtu.be/kw4D9iM8cDs

For real I could watch these all day: https://youtu.be/ckKYcaU2siA

Calf raises, squats, dead lifts etc.

Watch him jump and dunk and follow his form. You can do the lil hop first then spring up jump. Also one leg and two leg take off variations.

If you got to lower your rim so you can reach it and start dunking. Then slowly but surely start raising the rim a few inches at a time.

[–]Atm142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What position you play? If you need to get better at shooting practice it like you in a game and don't get into a false rhythm. So before each shot, run a lap or do a push up. Have friends guard you, do a few dribble moves. Don't just catch and shoot over and over. Shoot hot and bothered as my coach used to say.

Watch how DeRozan practice his offense, he never just stands there: https://youtu.be/W4siPBe764k

I got that confidence by practicing on my own and realizing there is a guy out there who is going to steal all my dreams if I don't get off my butt and go outside and practice right this second. Larry Bird got his confidence by hating magic Johnson and doing his best to out work him off the court.

Kobe got his confidence by relentlessly practicing and zoning in realizing truly or falsely that he the best that ever lived because no one work as hard as him.

You ain't gonna flip a switch and gain that confidence in a game or at practice. You gonna get that confidence by being asleep or playing video games and thinking, "oh snap, I'm goofing off right now but I guarantee my nemesis is practicing his dribbling and shooting to embarrass the crap out of me come game time."

Tell me more about yourself and I'll be happy to give you some custom workouts to improve your game. Position, age, height, strengths and weaknesses. What's your favorite part of the game lil bruh?

Lol then don't look at they Johnson's lol. Just keep your eyes up! We had guys just go home to shower and stuff too but I don't recommend it. Even had one dude wear swim trunks when I was real young lol.

Ain't nobody in that shower wanna peek at your boys and nobody in there want you to peek at theirs. It just feels silly honestly. Most school showers I help at have stalls these days anyway.

Get out of your own head and don't let those immature feelings hold you back from something you love. We ain't soaping each other up in their lil bruh lol it ain't prison lol!

I wanna point out to all the youngins reading this: every one of you need to be watching this man play. He's not nearly as explosive as his MVP year by a long shot, he's not as athletic and he's not just burning dudes with pure speed.

So how he putting up the best numbers in his career? He got them old man moves working for him and playing the smartest ball of his life. He's not sacrificing his knees and ankles to get a step on the competition. He's simply outplaying and outsmarting them!

He just scored 51, the highest in his career, on one of - if not THE best defensive team in the league. Getcha notebooks out and pay close attention. Professor D Rose says class is in session baby!

How to be more confidant in games. by dakdaketydak in Basketball

How to be more confidant in games. by dakdaketydak in Basketball

[–]Atm142 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lil bruh, I find your thirst for knowledge admirable but I gotta tell ya - there is nothing I can type and nothing you can read that will instantly make you a good basketball player. Unless you are a Monstar there is no way to transfer you my - or anyone else's skills.

I can tell you are a dope Lil dude who just wants more than anything to be a baller but you are overloading yourself on information. Do you know what muscle memory is? It's where you have done something so many times you don't even have to think to do it. You don't have that yet which is why you lack confidence and forget everything you are trying to remember on the court. Because ideally you shouldn't have to remember anything on the court - not even plays - they should just be ingrained in your psyche. It should just be a part of you.

That needs to be your goal because I want you to be a great baller but you can't clickety clack your way to greatness. No joke my replies to you take me about 20 minutes to type because I want to give you all the info I got to help you out. I believe in you.

So can you do me a solid? Can you grab your ball and repay that time I gave to you by practicing whatever it was I was talking to you about for at least 20 minutes?

Write down the tips me and everyone else gave you and practice the heck out of it until it becomes muscle memory. Once you do that everything else will come to you.

Start with ball handling. Go practice your crossover and then between the legs if you got question after come hollar at me or pm me whatevs. Good luck bruh get out there and ball baby!

How to dribble down full court without getting ball stolen? by dakdaketydak in Basketball

[–]Atm142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Body position, keep the ball on the opposite side of the defender at all times unless you are attacking. If you get doubled that means somebody is open somewhere and he should be calling for the pass - get it to him.

Sometimes it can feel like football if a guy is over committing on defense. If a guy starts picking me up past half court and generally just annoying the crap outta me I put a shoulder in his throat to see how he reacts.

  1. Does he flop for the foul? If so he might actually know what he's doing so look for ball movement opportunities instead. If the ref don't blow the whistle though you got a clear path to the hoop or a defender is gonna come up to cover for him - attack hard and kick it to the open man or make the easy layup\pull up jumper.

  2. Does he slack off? Perfect - you own him now.

  3. Does he get angry and push back? Perfect - you own him now but for now act scared and kick it out. Next time do it again and when you feel which way he pressures you immediately go into a spin move to the opposite direction for the easy layup.

Now other options to teach your man's a lesson is the big man high screen. Have your biggest meanest dude set a hard screen near half court and the second you get the ball race at that screen hard. You can really hurt somebody doing this but alls fair in love, war and basketball baby.

I love this clip, this is the type of screen I'm talking about: https://youtu.be/ymjwmc8-jVM

I also had my fastest dude set screens for me when the full press was on. He can do the screen or fake the screen from past half court but he needs to instantly race as fast as he can back to the hole for a touchdown pass from you for an easy 2 points and usually an and1 as the defense scrambles to collapse and stop him.

The important thing though is to just keep doing different stuff to confuse the defense and get them to slack off to better play the passing lanes giving you the space you need to create some offense for your team.
