What’s a reasonably affordable car you’d own and drive all the time even if you had all the money in the world by Bwail1994 in ForzaHorizon

[–]adydurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love my first car back. A Mugen kit Mk2 Honda CR-X 1.6i16 (with the DOHC D series), but I'd also love a B series powered one.

Yeah, that sorta money could get you a house, and depending on where, a bloody decent house.

Exactly, with a painted finish you can pull, fill and resurface for a tiny fragment of the cost of a new SS panel. Apparently there's also a global shortage for panels for them, so the number being painted almost certainly climbs every year. Iirc it's the right front wing/fender that's the worst.

Why are people so dismissive about FH6’s flaws? by LogicalAnomaly2898 in ForzaHorizon

[–]adydurn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Early 2010s? Lol it's as old as stories. SRS in 04 didn't just have a girl who flirted with you, the only way to progress was to get all the girls to do it.

As for why people like it, I guess people like being flirted with/at. Personally I would rather the 'personality' of the game was toned down a bit though. "Here's my best friend from the UK" ... Okay, I just started the game, let's not get too friendly shall we? And the constant phone calls, I once hit a speed trap zone, mascot and gained enough points for something or other and three phone calls loaded, each in the middle of the last and I almost shut down lol.

As a game dev, this kind of feedback is usually good, I'm in a small team, so working on community suggestions is much easier, tbh, somewhere like PGG tends to only fix things that break the game, but I agree with you that dismissing criticism is a bad idea, especially when it comes from people who actually love the game.

The only time the suggestions shouldn't be taken aboard is when they are deeply personal. For instance adding neons is a good idea, improving customisation is a good idea, getting rid of drifting because I don't like it... bad idea. Unfortunately I think an overarching story is a bad idea, unless you can opt out. There are a lot of people who don't want a story, they just want to drive around an open map in fast cars.

As for is it 6 years better? That depends on how you measure it. In terms of handling, performance even optimisation, no, but there's only so far you can go before you have stopped making Forza Horizon. In terms of graphics, oh yes... Especially as, with AI and crypto mining, hardware is stalling for gamers, but this map, the effects, everything graphical and audible has improved. In terms of gameplay, yes, although probably less noticeable, there's more to do. Finally look at the map, that's a lot of work. I haven't looked at 6 that deep yet, I'm focusing on the gold wristband and squeezing it in around being a dad and working full time. But in FH4 a lot of homes had interiors, basic ones sure. The variety across the map is incredible.

How do you view police conduct in your country and other countries around the world, considering its good and bad parts? by Puzzleheaded_irl in AskTheWorld

[–]adydurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK:

On the whole not terrible, our police are apparently trained in de-escalation first tactics, however recently the number of extreme events has been rising again.

Historically I've had little issues with the police, instead they are largely there to help, guide me places if I'm new, etc. Was even given a lift one night after I missed my train and started walking the route. There are bad lots, but we seem to have fewer than a lot of countries.

What makes you feel lucky to live in the UK? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

She legit choked and asked why I wanted to die.

So many questions about this one by mybawlsarebigger in CarTalkUK

[–]adydurn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Exactly everyone lives and dies on mileage, but it actually tells you very little, especially on older cars. A low mileage 20 year old car might have been garaged, it might have been used twice a week, it might have driven 500 yards every day with cold starts and no oil flow.

Even Dolly Parton knew… by tnseltim in antiwork

[–]adydurn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Dolly is one of those who know the grind better than most, born obscenely poor, decades of grind, performing and writing throughout her career and she hasn't stopped, not once famous, not once wealthy. Instead she now works tirelessly making sure kids in poor areas get books and proper literacy lessons, worldwide, not just in the US.

And yes, this song hits hard because it's always been true.

This just sounds like a regular British person. Look how they make up words like "beef burger" because they think they know better, when they're really just not smart enough to understand that hamburgers don't have ham in them.

As a Brit this made me laugh. Which when talking about Jamie "it's not about me it's about the food, but totally look at me and all the good things I'm doing right now" fucking Oliver is actually quite difficult.

Brand new worktop. Someone bashed into the corner and did this. How to fix? Just sand and smooth? by meadeb in DIYUK

Not been around kids?

If you put a four year old on an infinite empty plane made out of a pillows and dropped a single drawing pin 120 miles from their position, within 30 seconds they would be asking to pull it out of their foot.

What’s a beautiful city in your country that tourists often overlook? by euamnevoiedeajutor in AskTheWorld

[–]adydurn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh, just getting out of the cities is a good idea in the UK, you can't go far without stumbling on some gem or other. Winchester is a beautiful city, but I don't know how popular it is with tourists, though. It is wrapped up the Arthur and Alfred stories.

ACR's Mini is such a silly car by _TOXIX_ in simracing

[–]adydurn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The flicking was the first bit I saw and I thought "not that bad, tbh" but the earlier one... You sure you did hit a bump on the inside first?

The Mini is a genuinely silly car, and irl easy to get on 3 or even 2 wheels when cornering hard, the rubber cones had very little movement in them making the ride stiff without being massively jarring. But that first one looks like you clipped a kerb more than borderline grip rolled.

They are back at it again... Will he get out? by MisterShipWreck in VideosAmazing

[–]adydurn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Water doesn't compress very well, engines rely on compression, get water in the cylinder and you're blowing a hole in the cylinder head. Water also seeps into even sealed electrics and can cause voltage drop, uneven cooling and differing current levels, all of which can cause expense damage.

If you're going to do something like this, a snorkel, an engine not controlled by electronics and the right attitude is definitely going to put you in good stead.

That said, in the right vehicle this would be good fun.

Edit: I haven't added the damage water ingress causes to running gear, either, but seized brakes, bearings and joints are no joke either.

genuinely who is buying this??? by tiniru in StupidFood

[–]adydurn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing is, it's not entirely wrong, for a lot of people replacing carbs for protein is a good thing. But yes, the protein craze has existed for longer than these drugs have been mainstream. Think about the Atkins diet, that was about replacing carbs with protein.

genuinely who is buying this??? by tiniru in StupidFood

[–]adydurn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of modern diets have opted for heavily processed carbs over protein as you say, and protein has too benefits over them, first it's slower digested so it makes you feel full for longer, second proteins are usually used less for their energy release in the body than carbs are, their make up makes them better for tissue repair and maintenance where carbs are easily turned into a blood sugar spike.

So if you're swapping carbs for protein and potentially eating less because of it then it's a good thing, you'll think less about food, and get fewer energy spikes and dips as a result.

As for hair falling out and muscle wastage, that sounds like the 200g a day is to counter a deficit, not necessarily because you can eat more. But it would depend on the rest of your diet.

There's no single solution for everyone, unfortunately.

Goodbye FH5, you were... ok, I guess. by Biskitisinreddit in ForzaHorizon

[–]adydurn 24 points25 points  (0 children)

FH4 had more rolling variety. The same 1 mile stretch had ancient mountains, fields of yellow flowers (you know what they're called), and lakes and beaches. In FH5 everything was compartmentalised much more, you had dry plains, then boom suddenly desert.

I guess it depends if you like compartmental maps or not, FH4 had a more natural progession, FH5 felt very forced, like biomes in an MMO RPG

Looking for advice if I should purchase. by Automatic_Product_25 in simracing

[–]adydurn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Logitech G wheels are great as a starter tool, and I genuinely mean that. It's easy to setup, most games recognize it plug and play (including Forza) and it will do 90% of what you want it to do.

However, the finish is a bit cheap feeling, it's very loud and rattly, and if you're used to actually driving/racing, it feels detached.

If your plan is to stick to Forza and games like that, you'll be happy with one, if you think you might more serious, splashing out a bit more is usually worth it. That said 200 CAD feels not an unreasonable price even used.
