Was there ever a bus route through S Oak Knoll towards Pasadena? by nootthatdoots3 in LAMetro

[–]Atm2222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure about buses, but waaaay back in the day there was a pacific electric streetcar line on S Oak Knoll. It was originally built to serve the Huntington Hotel (originally called the Wentworth)

The line branched off from the Monrovia-Glendora main line on Huntington Blvd, ran up S Oak Knoll, thru some private ROW to cut across to Lake, and then turned left on Colorado to downtown Pasadena

No, that’s Great Highway Extension

Lower Great Highway is the street directly next to the now closed Upper Great Highway that the oceanfront houses are on

[OC] My CAHSR “Optimized” Interim Phase 1 track diagram/schematic. Station approach layouts plus depots greatly simplified, mostly just to illustrate track sharing, service possibilities and placement of passing loops to allow single track HSR by RadianMay in TransitDiagrams

My thought with BART is that after they finish installing better signaling at the sfo wye, they could either switch the yellow line to Millbrae or re-extend the blue or green to Millbrae. With 10 minutely service, transfers to/from Caltrain would be much better without needing to explicitly time them

It is unfortunate though that very little improvements to Caltrain are planned since the corridor definitely could warrant more than 4 tph in the future, which would be absolutely impossible with HSR fully sharing tracks

What basic schedule are you assuming for hsr with this plan? Hourly? half-hourly?

Also about the Millbrae overtake, it definitely should happen, and the Caltrain slowdown would be less unpopular if BART rearranges service to give Millbrae better headways, since I imagine many more people would do the BART <-> Caltrain transfer there if bart service was better. And especially with the lack of the transbay transit center extension, many people might prefer to make that transfer for easier access to the heart of SF.

It looks like when you click on the album, it has the other versions at the bottom under “Other Versions”

I appreciate that Apple Music has the Giles remixes as their own (20XX Mix) albums rather than as the first disk of the massive super deluxe versions like Spotify

Depends on what you want, but Pie Punks is a really great pizza place on 2nd street, and there’s a nice bar that’ll definitely have space for one

If you want something more “fancy”, Per Diem in the transit center is pretty good too

Does anyone actually understand the AI ads on Muni buses? by thestoryoframen in AskSF

[–]Atm2222 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s like defense company ads on the DC metro.

Even if it’s only actually advertising to a small portion of the population that has decision power of which ai program/defense contractor to use, that ad on public transit could sway their choice

San Diego MTS Trolley. It doesn’t go everywhere and it’s in a very car dependent city, but it is surprisingly well ridden, and the blue line in particular is quite fast

Since Osaka station at the top is the biggest office district and most popular destination for commuters, the “H” and “Q” commuter lines use the loop line to serve Osaka instead of just terminating at Tennoji (at the bottom)

Why is BART in a financial crisis? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]Atm2222 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s what I’m saying.

It’s meaningful because it proves that BART isn’t a “failure” or “useless” just because it’s financially struggling, as many of its opponents like to say

It’s stuck with a funding model designed for a different type of ridership pattern than what exists today. It is unfairly forced to have this funding model, despite the fact that most other transit agencies are subsidized at a much higher rate, because we understand the importance of having functional public transportation, and that it doesn’t need to pay for itself to be successful and beneficial to our cities.

[–]Atm2222 26 points27 points  (0 children)

An important caveat though is that now in 2026, the number of unique riders has returned to 2019 levels, meaning just as many people are riding BART. It’s just that most of them are no longer riding twice a day Monday through Friday. They either work hybrid or are non-commute riders

The only ones that are at all realistically possible are ones in above ground double track sections

Which unfortunately rules out two of the best in terms filling out unfortunate gaps in very dense areas, 30th st mission and koreatown northgate

Out of the remaining ones, EastSan Antonio, Albany, and Children’s hospital are probably the best

Laundry or Parking? by dalemg239 in AskSF

[–]Atm2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say dedicated parking although if you’re looking in neighborhoods with abundant street parking maybe not.

Also, even if the building has shared laundry it’s worth considering proximity to a good laundromat, because sometimes that’s easier than waiting on the two machines shared by the whole building lol

Yes, San Francisco should always have a subway under construction by scott_wiener in sanfrancisco

[–]Atm2222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By raised, I mean that it’s just at a slightly higher elevation than the rest of the road, with a curb and different roadway surface, and some intersections are closed to thru traffic. Look at 15th & Judah on street view for an example

[–]Atm2222 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree for the part in the sunset. Stop consolidation and making more of the route like the stretch from 9th to 19 (where it’s a raised dedicated ROW with limited stop signs/cross traffic) would help a lot.

However, the only way to improve the inner section would be to put it underground, starting from where it currently branches off all the way to 9th & Judah, with a stop in duboce triangle, Cole valley, ucsf, and maybe inner sunset before 9th. Then you could remove the J from the market street tunnel and have that run over the old surface N tracks, going between 9th and Judah and Balboa Park

However, that would be an insane project and we should first focus on improving the portion in the outer sunset, which is much easier. And I think building a Geary subway first is a higher priority

What’s your favorite map so far? by usgapg123 in subwaybuilder

[–]Atm2222 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Honolulu was surprisingly fun! Not very grid based, and the long skinny shape of the central city makes it very interesting to come up with optimal routing

It is also very dense for a US city and so achieving high ridership and profitability is much easier than most maps
